All and all it was a fun event to watch.
Props:
Craig and Will for rocking the Hawaiian shirts.
Rob Edwards for writing his decklist in pink pen.
Justin Kohler for winning in consecutive weeks.
Mark Kinney for being awake for the event.
Mike Noble. Just because.

Slops:
The rest of us for not rocking Hawaiian shirts.

Looking forward to April's event. Thank you for supporting the format and the event.
Cheers,
Cal

There was another UR Landstill player, but I'm not sure of his name.

My day went:

Round 1 - Win vs. Tim w/Dredge
Round 2 - Tie vs. Craig w/East Coast Wins
Round 3 - Loss vs. Justin w/Bomberman
Round 4 - Win vs. Josh w/Doomsday
Round 5 - Loss vs. Rob w/Martello

Had some super-awkward games with Rob. Game 1 I think he mulled to 5, or maybe even 4? Several turns into the game, I felt like I was beginning to stabilize. He had used two Wastelands (but I did have basics). I think he had a Factory out, and after countering something on his turn, I dropped Standstill and my own Factory. He used his third Wasteland the next turn, and proceeded to beat me with his Factory as I failed to draw another Factory (which he actually had the FOURTH Wasteland for Smile), or any of my five waste effects. I eventually Hurkyl's Recalled (sub-optimally timed), but with having to pop my own Standstill, he was just able to go nuts the following turn.

Game 2 I had turn 1 Welder, which met a Revoker the following turn, and I believe Chalice at 1. A second Revoker came out, naming Jace. Trinisphere came out at some point, as well. I got to three colorless lands to drop EE at 0 (he had Chalice with me having multiple Lightning Bolts in-hand, and he had a couple moxen). He then Metamorphed a Revoker, naming EE. I had a couple of Mishra's Factories to keep his beats at bay, but he eventually resolved a Wurmcoil. By the time I was able to finally draw a Chewer, I was too far behind and dead if he'd swing with his team. Still, they were some fun and interesting games. Playing a zero-proxy deck was fun, as well! Smile

Thanks for the tournament, Calvin! Looking forward to the next one. (Hopefully with a larger turnout.)

Rob, how did the side-board Geistcatcher's Rig pan out?  Also noticed 1x Crucible main-deck over 1x City of Traitors.  Any mana problems with the switch?

Jon, I never boarded Rig in. I don't think I drew CoW game one and wished it was a mana source. I might not have even drawn CoW game one at all.

Kohler is very stoppable. Am I the only one with a decent record against him?

Nope. I don't think Kohler has won against me in over 2 years, and we play against each other A LOT!! Well, maybe he did one time, I just don't remember. Smile

I'm 0-X-1 lifetime against Kohler I believe. My bad, ya'll. I take full responsibility for that. I have to be better prepared to play against him.

But while that is pretty bad it's still better than the combined 0-X I am against the law firm of Detwiler, (Dave) Gans, and Hornung.

@Rob:  Geistcatcher's Rig?  There are flying creatures in vintage?

Can't wait to play against everyone again on the 23rd!

I'm about 50/50 with him at this point, although only in about 3 games.  My deck du jour certainly makes him play differently than he'd want to.

Thanks all, especially Calvin, for the awesome day!  Props to Dimir Charm, which successfully killed two Dark Confidants, countered a Tinker, and fixed my draws twice.  It's a keeper.

Can't wait to play against everyone again on the 23rd!

It shoots down Aven Mindcensors and Vendilion Cliques quite nicely I hear! It might occasionally hit a Trygon Predator as well.

Isn't Duplicant just better 95% of the time?  I'm all about cute sideboard cards though, so the Rig is fine by me.

Rig was for Trygon Predator if anyone was playing Noble Fish or UBRg Control.

Duplicant is almost never going to be a 4/5 after resolving. I'd rather have a 4/5 after hitting a Trygon than a 2/3 and get run over by dumb exalted dudes.

@Mark Kinney (and everyone else with the knowledge of Strixes) I'm a little curious how the Balfeul Strix treated you during the day? I understand their merits in the Workshop match ups but they must be god awful against blue and other non Fish decks. Are they worthy of 3 slots in the main?

well.....
1: it's a removal spell that can be pitched to FoW
2: can be tinkered away after netting you a card(minimally)
3: insane amounts of synergy with clamp and welders
4: deals with flying threats and can become a major issue if Tezz 2 makes him a 5/5
hopefull you get the idea
cheers,
cal
