What an incredible loss for the art community, let alone the Magic community.
I was very sad to see that things had become difficult for him in the last few years. I knew that he was in pain, but I was of the belief that it wasn't life threatening. What an awful surprise to wake up to.
We could talk about the impact that he had on the game, but it's profound and we all know it. He was far too young to die this soon, and I hope that he, his family and loved ones find God's peace waiting for them.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.
Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops. I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

How old was he?
He was born on March 16, 1964, so he just turned 49 about a month ago. Vesuvan Doppelganger is one of my favorite pieces. I never met him, but he sounded like a really cool guy. RIP |

In the early days of magic, I built a Quinten Hoover.dec. Tundra wolves, some 1gg 2/2 first strike leech, regeneration, and I think Aisling Leprechaun. It was terrible, but it was fun watching my opponents disbelief that I built such a bad deck.
(He drew a plains and a forest from Ice Age, I think, hence the deck)

Very sad news - Such a loss! His Facebook updates and photos showed the decline… I’m relieved he's in a much better place without pain!
I'm not sure how to pull it off, but would be awesome to have a Q memorial in the GenCon Art Show this year. I've got 1/ea of his prints, bunch of his proofs and an original sketch that I'd loan to the cause... but won't be going to GenCon this year. Any thoughts on how we could make it happen?

This guy and Tedin were my all-time favorite artists in Magic. Particularly the old-school stuff, when everything Mark Tedin did was a brain and everything Hoover did was stylish black outline with sort of a chalk / pencil gradient going on between them.
Oh well, I guess my Earthbinds and Regerations are now collectibles, huh.

Quinton always loved his fans, and I am sure he would have been honored with all that people have been saying about him, but seeing he was so humble he would change the subject. It is a great honor to know him and be a friend for 18 years and he made sure since the day I met him that he made me comfortable to with asking him questions about his work till we became close friends. I would ask if you have a story about meeting Q or just talking to him pass it on so that those that are new to his art can know how great of a person he was. Thanks
