Thanks to everyone who did chose to support the format and come to play vintage in Bloomsburg.

My first time at The Lube wasn't as bad as I thought. The overpriced food was good and the service was decent. I'd probably try it again.

@Brian Kelly
How effective was Exava?
Unless I'm mistaken all I see is a 4 mana 4/4 haste first strike, unless that is all u were going for?

I didn't draw her, but she's amazing in testing.  My worst match-up is Bomberman because it has unlimited unsummons, can randomly combo out, and has a gazillion creatures to protect the Jace, which must be stopped.  The Cavern makes Exava an uncounterable 4/4 haste first strike, which means she kills Jace on the spot or trades unfavorably with any of its guardians, including Auriok Salvagers.  She's often attacking for 5, 6, or 7 because of bonuses like Exalted and the +1/+1 bonus from Mayor of Avabruck.  The 4 toughness is relevant because of Lightning Bolt, Fire/Ice, Pyroclasm, etc.  In an emergency, she can be reset w. Karakas, which is in there for the usual reasons.  Think of a Slash Panther that is uncounterable, gets bigger, and survives more removal and those are the situations for which Humans can use Exava.

No wonder Vito made the top 8, he was playing 2 Time Walks! That card gets really good when you have an army of 2/2 drakes, I guess.

I figured it was for Jace.
Another question:
Sigarda? Why?

U/R Landstill.  Post-sideboard, different variations of that deck can bring in a lot of removal that punishes small toughness; ie Fire/Ice, Pyroclasm.  Thrun was considered but it's not cool to have them block w. recurring Factories and keep Brainstorming w. Jace.  Hold Cavern in hand and when the time is right, lay it, name Angel and that generally puts them at your mercy.

@Butker

No fastbond? Has this been a common thing in the doomsday deck lately?

I don't have anywhere near the experience you (and Mike) have with the deck but I quite liked fastbond in the deck when I played it to give it another way to win the game.

I like the addition of Seize. I was playing duress over Flusterstorm when I was playing the deck since it seems like having proactive protection in a deck as fast as doomsday is a good call. I could be biased as I love Duress in combo and gush decks in general.

Could you see going to 2 seize/duress main deck and 1 flusterstorm?

Edit:
Also, the missing cards in your deck are 4 Polluted Delta?

No.  I think every doomsday list, including my own, have been running fastbond, but I started to feel like it was a sacred cow.  I had more hands where fastbond was just getting in the way than I did where it was being useful.  Most of the time when I could win with fastbond, I could win anyway without it.

The only game where I missed fastbond was in a game against Ryan Bergemen playing U/W Landstill.  He had a Stony Silence on the field, which slowed me down given that I didn't have access to Fastbond.  So, with Gush in hand I resolved Doomsday and passed the turn.  With Fastbond, I could have won that turn, but I ended up winning anyway, just a turn or two later.  Though the game was a lot more interesting as a result.  That being said, that was the only time that I missed Fastbond at all.

I do like thoughtseize, but I probably wouldn't go down to 1 flusterstorm.  I love flusterstorm too much.

Yeah, the other cards are 4x Delta.

So the real question this tournament raises is...at what point are we, as Vintage, going to stop bomberman? Not THE Bomberman, obviously, since that motherfucker is just indestructable, but the archetype maybe. Kohler's starting to spawn additional overlords, and they went three for three this time around. Worse is no one seems surprised.

Also, one of these days when I have money for a hotel I'm coming to a Player's Guild. I just can't make my car do eight hours of driving in one day, the poor thing would die.

Congratulations to the vintage warriors who made it out, and the top 8, though!

Money for a hotel? I think the place across the street from the mall is like, 30 dollars a night or something.

It's not about beating bomberman. Its that most players misunderstand how the matchup should be played and sb inappropriately. Kohler wont tell you how to beat him but its not difficult to figure out
