So I recently learned that goyf gets buffed one from a spell such as bolt, before taking the damage, since bolt is put into the grave before resolving.

Is this true for cabal ritual? If I have 6 cards in my grave when I cast it do I get 3 black mana or does it count itself as the 7th card, hitting my grave before resolving, and thus triggerring threshold and provide me with 5 black mana?

 Thanks.

Unfortunately, you would only get 3 mana.  The reason that, say, a 2/3 Goyf (with no instants in the yard) will not die from a Bolt is because creatures die from damage as a state-based effect.  The game checks these effects any time a player would receive priority.  So in the case of the lightning bolt, resolving the bolt from the stack looks like this:

1. 3 damage is put onto the Tarmogoyf.  It's currently a 2/3 with 3 damage, but that's okay as the game has not checked SBEs.
2. The Bolt is put into the graveyard as the last part of its resolution.
3. Before any player receives priority, SBEs are checked.  At this time, the Bolt is in the yard and the Goyf is a 3/4 with 3 damage, so everything is okay.

In the case of the Cabal Ritual, resolving it looks like this:

1. 3 mana is added to your pool because there are only 6 cards in your graveyard.
2. The Ritual is put into your graveyard.  Now you have threshold.

What if you cast Yawg Will with 7 spells in your grave, one of which is Cabal?

A spell that is cast goes on the stack and leaves whatever zone in was in before.
