gotta shake things up a bit bro. besides, it was kinda based on our convo at the lucky dog. power is all over the joint. workshops, not so much. guys are coming distances and i wanna give some cushion for drive time. i thought this to be the logical conclusion. i'm always open to suggestion to improve the events. few speak up(mark kinney obviously but he's a loudmouth) and actually have something constructive or non-belly-aching to say. cheers, cal

I think a workshop for first is BOSS as hell ! The later start time is also clutch in the world of vintage.

I'm actually excited about the Workshop for first since it's something I actually need. There was no sarcasm in my first post.
I don't understand your reasoning for pushing the start time back. Most other Vintage tournaments in the area try to start at noon. There's no excuse, other than working the day of, that would prevent someone from showing up in time. Have something to do beforehand? Need gas? Expect traffic? The solution is simple: Leave earlier. As a TO, you shouldn't have to move the start time back because people are too lazy to wake up at a decent hour on a Saturday.

Despite my whisperings on Twitter, I won't be able to make it to this event as I have plans that night that interfere. Hopefully I'll make it out to the next one.

I have stated before that my vintage is on freeze for the summer(the drive from connecticut is not one to be taken lightly) but I would like to chime in about the start time. Coming from up from State College early in the morning isnt too tough, to echo Rob: we leave earlier. The thing that will be a tad rough is the drive back, a lot of us have stuff to do the next day or simply wish to enjoy our club meeting when we get back, it is hard to do this when returning back at nearly midnight. I don't think it is the worst thing in the world to move back the start time, I just feel like it isn't the best option. These ARE still the sickest vintage events this side of Nick Coss Also this is Mason btw.

i know there was no sarcasm at all. we've been getting alotta guys coming in hot at around 130p due to work, carpooling, etc. i got no problem with it just wanted to address what has become the norm as of the last 2 events. even if i said 1p start(like normal) we'd still get guys coming in late. so, this was an attempt at a solution. far as the workshop for 1st idea, take a bow Rob. wouldn't have happened without your input. cheers, cal

Who's the +2? I'm going to guess Egan and JP.

Major props to Calivn, the staff of MVPLS, and their fine clientele for saving me from my gross negligence. I will be forever grateful.
Props also to Abel, who 3-0-1 his first Vintage tourney, and Samhot for having the sickest freaking 7 I have ever seen.

This was one of the most fun and memorable tournaments I've been at in all my time playing Magic. So many crazy things happened. For those who weren't present, the ultimate climax was in the finals between Shawn's Esper Wizards and Tom's Heavy Prison Stax build. Tom opened with Black Lotus, Mox, Lodestone Golem, Mox, Mishra's Workshop, Lodestone Golem. I don't think I've ever seen that one before. Shawn responds, Land, Mox, Black Lotus, Devout Witness. Now that's one hell of a game we have here, an incredible Hail Mary response to the ultimate doom situation. And the last card left in Tom's hand was Phyrexian Revoker. It played out like two back-to-back divine interventions. Just unbelievable.
I played a variant of Mayor Fish and went 3-1 in the Swiss and then lost on the draw to the winning Shop deck. Game 2 was a "Metamorph your flipped Mayor" board state followed by double Mayor and there was a Smokestack ramped to 3. Very intense. I'll write up a brief mini report when I get a chance cause this whole day was a blast, start to finish.
Best format in Magic without a doubt = Vintage.

Hey Calvin, I know this event happened a while ago and you may not have the lists anymore, but if you do and could post a meta breakdown I would really appreciate it.
