Dang, wish I could have been there.

I called Danny on Saturday, and we couldn't agree on arrangements, but agreed (I thought) to figure it out the morning of the tournament. I even texted him Saturday night that I would call him at a specific time Sunday AM.  After calling and texting Sunday morning, I finally reached him, he told me he was in Sacramento on his way to the tournament.  I was like WTF.

It's too bad too, since I managed to snag first place the last two of these Smile  Congrats to Blaine.  I wish I was there to have played him.

Next time, I'll try to figure out a more concrete transportation plan to Vacaville.  It sounds like Rich Shay could use a lift as well from San Jose.

This sounds like it was a great time. I appreciate Mike offering me a ride, though he's an hour away from me. I'm greatly enjoying my time in California, though transportation leaves much to be desired. Hopefully I'll be able to arrive at the next one of these. Congratulations to BC!

Full disclosure: I played Bant Auras

I went with on color moxen, and no non-uber-proxies outside of the regular (Time Walk, Ancestral, Trops, etc)

I went 0-3, then beat someone having worse day than me.

But I learned a lot about deckbuilding non-shop/non-Oath/-Non Salvager decks

On the ride thing:
Stephen: I hear you have a car? Problem solved?
Rich Shay: is there no way to go from San Jose to Bart?
Heiner: Do you not love Vintage? Is Eudemonia tourney make you not drive to Vacaville?
Klemic? You still alive?
Lunar? Do you not bleed?
Ochoa? I actually understand. Making money at GP. Got it.
Huang? I tried to play fishlike deck, for you. with Etheral Armor and Gifts of Orzhova.

I did have a great time, even while losing.
I hoped my deck would work like my 4 days of testing showed, but I learned a lot about deckbuilding.
Also, tried to let community know that I don't ALWAYS play shops.

Lastly, I will lend one of three shopdecks I can build to anyone who is willing to throw down their entry fee and get handed a deck.

May I ask what the Bant Auras list looked like? It sounds interesting.

I decided to kick it old school with Mono-R Uba Stax, possibly my favorite Vintage deck ever.  It was every bit as fun and awesome as I remember.  I was on the draw pretty much all day (4 out of 5 matches).  I played against Espresso Stax, Grixis Control, Stoneforge Control, Dark Times, and then BUG Fish in Top 4.  It is my belief that in order to win with Workshops, you need to win every game that you are on the play, and split the games that you are on the draw.  I was able to do this exactly.  I was 5-0 on the play for the tournament, and 4-4 on the draw.  All in all, it was a successful day.  Afterwards we cubed and I went 0-2 with GW Aggro.

It was too bad that Steve and Rich couldn't make it this time, but I was very happy to get 15 players anyway.  Hopefully we'll see you guys at Eudemonia in July (http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=45259.0).

The tournament was great fun (even if I lost quite a bit more than I won; it's okay though since I decided to just play for shits and giggles with a Grixis list featuring a bunch of oddball singletons to maximize my entertainment). Russ is always an awesome host. The overall atmosphere seemed even friendlier than usual, including a few players new to the scene, who will hopefully be back for more. We must take Vintage pretty seriously here in NorCal given the quantity of real Power/Shops/BBduals/PimpCards/etc being slung. Bravo people!

Re: Jeff's Bant Aura list
In the last round I was sitting next to Jeff and looked over just as he was tapping a basic forest to play Sex Monkey! Not even joking. Totally made my day (even better than the Ancestral I had Misdirected earlier!). Goat tokens, now Sex Monkey; mad props to you, my friend!

Better late than never, I guess. Gaea's Cradle vs Strip Mine (r)

Same but later?

I'm guessing that the Chalice is set to 1...

Matt Salt's awesome playmat vs Dredge's awful proxies (ryan, I might just let you pick through my crappy dredge deck for what you need)

Vintage at it's finest! Trogdor vs Goblinz

Just in case anyone is interested in standings before top 4 playout

I believe this was a mull to five game 2 or 3 on Blaine's part.

Yeah, big money hustlin. That's what Blaine does with his PhD.

Ryan, talk to me. I will cough up those crap cards.  I just test against the damn deck.

Yeah, this Jace 2.0 Guy? He's better than everything...

Mike on tilt vs Piercing Stax

There Will Be Blood... because artifacts do in fact bleed...

Y'all can just speculate on who is actually winning this. I really don't know. this game went so back and forth, yet just stayed the same...

I'm just hazarding a guess that no matter what the gamestate, what the matchup is, Aardshark's game went to time. Smile

Ryan's boardstate is shaped like a Korean Caligraphy Symbol for Fuck You MTG Interaction.

Tapped Batterskulls can only be bad news for the Non Shop Player, yes?

Tip of the day: get seated near LotusHead, and pics of your gamestate guaranteed. I usually don't do pics of people just shuffling up, unless it's top 4/top 8 and I have a chance to cube draft with Stephen Menendian!

I had no idea what pics I took until last night. But if you got a game state you want imortalized, just shout "Judge!", then tell the judge you want me to take 10 seconds out of my match to come take a pic. I will. Smile
