***IMPORTANT UPDATE: The owner of Card Carrier Games has notified me that we must cap the attendance at 120.  I predict we will will be close to this number and am hopeful that we get close but don't have to turn anyone away at the door.  In order to guarantee your spot, you may preregister.  In order to do this, you can paypal the entry fee to iamfishman2000@hotmail.com and I will add your name to a list in the original post with all the preregistered players.

TMD OPEN 16
Card Carrier Games
589 Bridgeport Ave. Unit 17
Milford, CT 06460
1-203-301-4432

Time: Registration: 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Tourney Starts PROMPTLY at 11:00 am (To avoid a prolonged tournament, this will be strictly enforced. Latecomers will be subject to a round 1 loss.)

Dopeness Factor:  The number of pairs of integers (m,n) such that 1 <or= m <or= 2012 and 5^n < 2^m < 2^(m+2) < 5^(n+1).  Hint: 5^867 is between 2^2013 and 2^2014.

Day 1
August 23, 2014
Cost: $40 Entry Fee
(Entry fee must be paid in cash.  Because I don't work for the store, I don't have a credit card machine. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience)

Format - Type One with FIFTEEN proxies.
Cut: Cut to top 8 if we have less than or equal to 96 players or top 16 if we have more than 96 players.

Proxies: (Borrowing from Nick Detwiler’s guidelines)
Most everyone on these forums knows what a proxy is.  A proxy, for the TMD Open 16, will be defined as the following:
A Magic the Gathering card with the full name, card type (instant, sorcery, land, artifact, creature, enchantment, planeswalker), full mana cost and text clearly displayed.  This can be done in one of two ways:
1.  Using a Sharpie, not pen or pencil, to fill in the required text on a card where it can clearly be read. (Revised lands are excellent for this, new commons and uncommons aren't usually, as they're darker, and far tougher to read.)
2.  Using acetone to remove certain text from a card that's close to the intended proxy (i.e. Lotus Bloom, with certain words removed to proxy a Black Lotus, Ancestral Visions with certain words removed to proxy an Ancestral Recall).
Take pride in your proxies! Your opponents should know (at all times) what your proxies are, because they're clearly defined.  Using 15 Swamps to make your proxies is a bad idea, as it's going to create confusion.  If you're proxying Moxen, please, use a Land from each appropriate color to make a proxy for that Mox (i.e., a Mox Sapphire is on an Island, a Mox Jet is on a Swamp, a Mox Pearl is on a Plains...).  Beyond that, please use your best judgment when creating your proxies - we know what will, and what won't, be easily recognizable.
Your opponents should not ever be at a disadvantage because you don't own the cards.  There is nothing wrong with using proxies as you slowly pick up the cards that you need to play Vintage, but please consider your opponents while you're making them, as we're out to make this an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
If you're worried that your proxies may not pass muster, please speak to the head judge of the event before the event starts.  Leave enough time to create new proxies, if necessary.
Using paper printouts of card faces, and gluing them to cards, is not acceptable!  This alters the thickness of the cards, making the cards marked, for all intents and purposes.  Please don't do this, as the judges will be instructed to consider these as marked cards, and enforce punishment according to a DCI Competitive REL event!

At the end of round 3 we will be taking signups for a FREE tournament for an Italian Legends Mana Drain.  This free tournament will be single elimination.

Team rivalry, a.k.a. Braggin Rights Supreme August 2014:
Here is how its gonna go down.  Teams of three will agree prior to the event to play as a team and will register (separate from a deck registration...it will be done on a different sheet of paper).  Each team’s cost is $9...$3 per person.  Then, at the end of the tournament, the teams with the highest combined number of match points(single elimination matches count as 3 points per match, just as in the swiss) will win.
If enough teams enter, there may be a second place prize or more, but the number of teams entering, and thus the collected entry fees, will determine the prizes.  In the event of a tie for match points, the average opponent match win percentage from the swiss rounds of the three players on each team will be computed and compared.
After round 3 team designations will be inserted into players names, so teams may view each other team's players and match points on the pairings/standings.

GRUDGE MATCH: In addition to the team competition(which anyone can enter) there will be three teams battling it out in a separate competition.  Team New England, Team Pennsylvania/Southern NJ, and Team New York/Northern NJ will be fighting for glory and pride.  For more information, check here:

FREE Magic Trivia:
Some consider the most fun part of a TMD open(cough, James Hangley, cough).  Magic Trivia will test your Magic knowledge, take you down memory lane, and give you a fun-filled hour with friends.  It is FREE to enter and all teams win a prize.  The event starts after the Swiss rounds.

BYES:
(NEW CHANGE FOR THIS TMD OPEN-Byes will no longer cost $10 purchase)
(NEW CHANGE FOR THIS TMD OPEN-Byes will not pass down to the highest finishing eligible player in an event.  This is due to the sheer number of people who would be qualified if I did this.)
The top finishers (top is a relative word based on the size of the event) of ANY Type 1 tournament in the world will be rewarded with a round one bye at the upcoming TMD Open 16. The following guidelines have been used to determine byes:
1.) The tournament must have at least 25 people.
2.) If the tournament has between 25 and 49 people, the winner qualifies for a bye.
3.) If the tournament has between 50 and 74 people, the winner AND/OR the 2nd place finisher qualify for a bye.
4.) If the tournament has 75-99 people, the top 4 players qualify for a bye.
5.) If the tournament has 100+ people, the top 8 players qualify for a bye.

* If you are traveling from far away (of which tournaments I did not record winners) and are eligible for a bye, simply let me know and I will adjust the list above to reflect it.

BYE LIST:
(Even if your name is listed multiple times, you only qualify for a round 1 bye.  Otherwise Josh Potucek, Greg Fenton, and Tom Dixon would already be in the finals.)
* Someone from Mythic Games in Elmira and Undiscovered Realms in Hartsdale should let me know how many players were at each of their events.  If you won at another event not listed here with 25 or more people, please contact me.

I believe I will be attending this despite it being a week after GenCon. I would prefer to stay for day 2. Anyone who was in my car would also be staying. I'd wager that would be 3-4 people.

I hope that in a small way it helps convince people to attend other events and thus grow the format.

Bradley was closest to Waterbury, but technically JFK or Laguardia are equally close to Milford as Bradley is.

Are you sure you can't reward multiple byes? I'd love to have four free wins.

Seriously though, everyone needs to try and make it this one. It seems like a lot of the younger players have never experienced a TMD Open. And I use the word experience because you don't just play at a TMD Open.

You know how the Lakers were the Lakers when they were a team in the land of 10,000 lakes and then stayed the Lakers when they moved to Los Angeles?

The TMD Open will always be Waterbury.  Even if it's not in Waterbury.  Keep the memory alive!  Waterbury forever!

If you won at another event not listed here with 25 or more people, please contact me. ...snip

There are a few recent events that aren't listed here. Namely, the recent TDG ones in 2014 (though Keith, Greg, and I won the last three iirc). Is that because of a lack of TO Reports?

You know how the Lakers were the Lakers when they were a team in the land of 10,000 lakes and then stayed the Lakers when they moved to Los Angeles?

The TMD Open will always be Waterbury.  Even if it's not in Waterbury.  Keep the memory alive!  Waterbury forever!

I've only been to 3 or 4 of them, but this sentiment 100% rings true.  Eagerly looking forward to this.

Right...in order to put it here I needed to know how many players played and who won/top 2/top 4.

Also...in a true act of absent-mindedness I forgot to list my last event in the list of events that qualified people for byes.  The list has been updated to include TMD Open 15.

RIP Mogg Fanatic...at least you are still better than Fire Bowman!!!

I was once asked on MWS, what the highest I ever finished at a TMD Open was.  I replied, "I've never played in a Waterbury.  I was then called "A TOTAL NOOB!"

People who are looking to play in Day 2 please post in here. I know we're all excited but I want to give an honest impression for everyone to make plans. I really want to stay over and play both days but won't make plans if it isn't going to happen.
