I ran RUG to 1st place at the 23 player Workshop tournament yesterday on Long Island. This is my 2nd Vintage tournament in 10 years. I created and established Vintage Burn to overrun Keeper back at Neutral Ground in the early 2000s. Traded in my Jackal Pups for Delvers.

Tournament info: http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=46605.0

I took Steve's NYSE list with the following edits:

-2nd Spell Pierce, +1 Spell Snare
This slot exists to counter Oath. Snare does a better job and gets Snapcaster, Confidant, Pyromancer, Goyf, Revoker, merfolk and Stoneforge.

-1 Fire/Ice, +4th Lightning Bolt
I almost always wanted a bolt over Fire/Ice.

-2nd Misdirection, +1 Nature's Claim
Claim maindeck was very valuable. I may want the 2nd MisD back in though.

SB
-4 Leyline of the Void, +4th Grafdigger's Cage, +2 Ravenous Trap, +1 Strip Mine
Trap is tutorable. The Strip Mine was mediocre.

Other 15th SB card options:
Dack Fayden
Skullclamp
Vendilion Clique
Grim Lavamancer
Umezawa's Jitte

Play Notes:

In the Swiss, I lost to Shops and beat Oath, Welder and Trinkets. The T8 was Shops, BUG and Welder.
---

Darksteel Juggernaut destroyed me in the Swiss. Dack would be good here.

Triple Serrated Arrows and a Triskelion forced me to slow down and hardcast multiple Ingot Chewers for value.

Learning to sequence Misdirections and Flusterstorms on multiple spell stacks will determine at least 1 game in a large tournament.

Pyroblasted a Goblin Welder for an extra Pyromancer token. Don't play REB.

Thanks to:

Alan, put on a great tournament. GP Boston cut into attendance a bit, but Alan still paid out as if 32 players had arrived.

Greg and Nick, good seeing you guys after quite a while.

All my opponents. Everyone played very well and it was a nice blend of professional and friendly.

Dave slayed me in round 1. My deck helped him in g1 by not providing colored sources for three straight hands but the match up is unfavorable so I was likely to be behind anyway. Was great to have another new strong player come out to the event.

Any changes you'd make to the deck for playing it on MTGO? I've played a lot of UR delver both online and in a live tourney this week, but I'd be interested in trying out this version.

Dave Kaplan playing 4 lightning bolts? Inconceivable!

NJ, I hope to see you at more vintage events!

Congratulations!  nice to see you back in action

I wish my NYSE report had been posted, since I wrote it several weeks ago, but I think you'll find my detailed analysis and design considerations helpful to thinking through some of your own refinements.

The only thing I'll mention now is that I tried Ravenous Traps in a local tournament, and ended up losing to Dredge, which never happens to me.  I didn't think they were adequate to defeat a top notch Dredge pilot consistently.

Congrats on the win, Dave.  It was good to see you battling Vintage again.  It has been too long.

Bringing in Chewers to blow up Bridges and possible Chalices hasn't been sufficient? Would Surgical Extraction on Ichorid be stronger than Ravenous Trap?

+2 Trap, +4 Cage, +4 Chewer
-2 Predator, -1 Misdirection, -1 Pierce, -1 Snare, -1 Grudge, -1 Claim, -3 Bolt
