The first place deck is sweet.  Mono Blue control is one of my favorite archetypes.

Same here. The Mono Blue is surely very interesting - do you think you could talk Sir Diaz into writing a short report or at least a bit about his deckbuilding process? I'd love to know how he got to that list. It might be something I'll try on MODO soon ...

I have contacted with Miguel Angel and he will try to write something during the weekend on the board.

He has a user (wette) but has been away from TMD for a loooong time Smile

Hi all!

I was finally able to remember my password Smile

For the couple of questions @twiedel asked:

1- How i came to this building has not really much interest, monoU has always been my favorite archetype and a friend showed me a list he was playing in MOL (same maindeck +1 thirst for knowledge -1 B2B) I was planning to come back to a vintage event after 2 years, i love the archetype and i wanted to play something i feel confortable with (and i really love to sit behind a bunch of counters). This change (-1 TfK +1 B2B came cause i wanted to consistently draw b2b every game, monoU relies on its consistency so i wanted to be as redundant as possible, if B2B is worth playing i want it always). If i was playing the deck again i would think about consecrateds being vendilions... vendilion is better in the critical turns of the deck (1-4) and also allows to have a plan B by playing early EOT clique and sit behing our instants. Consecrated was game ending but sometimes was just a "win more", we loose a bit of punch with vendilions but it is, at least, a close election to make.

About the sideboard: list coming from MOL was only playing 3-4 cards against shops and little aggro hate which i expected to be all around so i rebuild it. I suppose the most remarkable election is propaganda: i finally came to them because they are good agains aggro (remember b2b) but they are also great against dredge (which i think we need 6-7 slots against) so despite having better cards against creatures they were more flexible. Shops, aggro and dredge need a lot of attention from our sideboard, lots of other cards could be there (trinket toolbox including needle, EE etc... were candidates but i choose redundancy again.

Here you have a mini report:

Round 1. Against Gush tendrils:

1- He was never into the game as i crushed 3 lands with a B2B followed by jace on turn 3 and 4 i happen to find a sphinx and finish it.

2- He plays turn 1 ancestral, missteped, turn 2 jace i FoW, he fows i FoW Back. He plays another jace turn 3 i drain and then play my own jace followed by B2B....

Round 2- U/W/B stoneblade

stoneforges, confidants, mindcensors...

Game 1 was really close, he managed to play mindcensor making me loose a fetchland pitch and making trinkets much worse but I keep stonforge and confidant out of the table, at some point he taps on his turn i EOT repeal mindcensor then play jace+walk , so we goes back i'm full of counters, a single trinket took his 16 lifes.

Board- propaganda and dismember

GAme 2- I think i missed the land drop from turn 3 to 5 and never got the control of the game

Game 3- He kept a risky hand with toneforge turn 1 bur only plains and mox ruby for mana, i FoWed stoneforge and he was out of the game.

Round 3 MUD

1- He goes chalice 0 and sphere and i got 3 moxes on hand Sad, he didn't play major threads but a mishra and a revoker are enough to kill me since i never got the mana to play b2b.

board- 3 fluxes, 2 sabotage, 2 dismember, 2 hurkylls: traps, missteps, sphinx and cage out

2- I mull to 6 and keep a hand with island, mana crypt and energy flux but no other mana, i go flux turn 1, he strips my island :s and then makes a major mistake: he could have been able to go crucible-strip but he choose to let crucible die in orther to have enough mana to play some random creature, this allows me to play mana, hurkyll's eot, B2B in my turn GG.

3- He goes shop, sphere (enters) and chalice (FoW). i go island, mox, mana crypt pass, he plays lodestone and passes i play flux and he was never into the game again, couple of turns later i play b2b and thats all.

Game 4 Tezzerator (oath sideboard plan)

I got a game loss for having cards not corresponding to the deck into the deckbox (even they were not sleeved and was perfectly possible to recognize which ones were being played I was supposed to know this kind of things... in my defense i have to say i got deck checked hundreds of times since 2002 and no judge never said nothing, anyway: my fault Sad )

So we go game 2: i don't remember much but we got a counterwar over his time vault that he won (key already on board), when i was going to concede my opponent really politely remembers me that he cannot get key active this turn cause he hasn't got any mana so in my turn i repeal the vault, play b2b leaving him with 2 moxes open, spell snared vault next turn and GG. (really nice from him)

game 3- I know he is on oath plan so i board cages, he managed to resolve oath but cage was allready on table and i immediately resolved a jace so i got the control of the match countering any single thread he played, play sphinx and concedes.

ID for rounds 5 and 6 and get 2nd into the top 8.

Quarterfinalls: Griselbrand oath

1- i didn't found the 4rth mana up to turn 7 or 8 so he finally passed over my wall of counterspells and oath into griselbrand

board: cages

2- strange game we have a counterwar on a jace (i think) which didn't resolve we are now on topdeck i play draw trinket--> top but start revealing a bunch of mana and only one counter on top i keep attacking, he is holding 6 cards and i only have 3 (2 moxes and a drain) so i think i'm out... but finally trinket kills him (he reveals a hand with tones of lands and creatures, but luck for him this time).

3- He goes turn 1 orchard oath but has no protection or other threads in hand, i had cage on my oppening hand that stops him and was never into the game... b2b+jace GG.

Semifinals: Tezzerator (same player as round 4)

1- Classic game where i counter everything first 3-4 turns, he taps for tezz, win the counterwar got him tapped and then b2b+jace in my turn GG.

2- I play b2b turn 1 we stay draw-go for a few turns then he plays tinker won the counterwar and play collosus we have no cards in hand... and then i topdeck jace and he scoops (lucky me).

Jaume concedes the finall so i got a place in the finall and then i gently decide to split the prize ;p

Hope you enjoy the decklist and the minireport and sorry for my english, it has been unused for a while.

Keeper is unaffected by B2B cause keeper doesn't need to tap its lands. OMG!

Thank you for the report! Propaganda in particular seems quite sweet.

The initial list was played on Magic Online while Tangle Wire was bugged, so shops was not that prevalent. Subsequent versions added a few Vendilion Cliques to the maindeck but the list that made Gerry's article on SCG (and was probably picked up by your friend) was one of the earlier versions without them. And Consecrated Sphinx was a finisher that negated the Show and Tell plan of Oath (Griselbrand becomes less good when your opponent draws 14 cards), which was a common matchup at the time.
