So at GP Nashville ( After the Eternal Weekend ), they are holding a Vintage and Legacy Pre- Register event to win a Plane Ticket, Hotel Accommodations and a 4- Day Badge to Gencon 2015.

Considering this is after the Eternal Weekend and Vintage/Legacy Champs are no longer at Gencon, is GP Nashville just sending 2 players up to Gencon 2015 just because they can? I can't go to Champs but being able to win a free trip to Gencon and go to some groovy Power Level Prized event for Vintage would be swell.

Are there events worth going to at Gencon if I happen to win this tournament at Nashville? Should I even sign up? I could spend those 4 days doing something else besides walking around Gencon and playing Khans of T Standard or Draft. Just seems odd to me they wouldn't have a free plane trip to the Eternal Weekend instead or some equivalent.

If you've never been you should definitely try to win the tickets.  GenCon is a great time, regardless of the relative lack of Vintage events.

We got ~70 people for sanctioned Vintage on Friday at Gencon this year with advance knowledge that champs wouldn't be there. Isn't that the largest sanctioned vintage event in the United States thus far?

We had 237 guys playing sanctioned Vintage at Vintage Champs in 2013, but 70 guys playing sanctioned Vintage is still impressive.

Not a huge fan of Pastimes, as the prize support for Vintage Champs (when I was there at least) was bad.  If you're into gamer culture and GenCon appeals to you on more than the Magic level, it's worthwhile.  I'm not really, so once Champs was given to Nick, I no longer had incentive to attend.  Still, to each his own.

Gencon is a great time.  So much to do.  The times that I went, I was only interested in Vintage before I got there.  As it turned out, I had a blast checking out the huge variety of games, events and shopping. Reminds me of Shakedown Street, except with card-floppers and not hippies.  At the very least, you have fantasy artists to sign your cards.  At the very most, you get to watch LARPers do their thing.  Who doesn't love watching that magic unfold?!?

GenCon attendance is one of the few items left on my geek cred card as yet unpunched.  And it makes me sad.  Even though I no longer play craptons of different games anymore, it seems like if you are in the Nashville area and love Vintage, it's worth giving it a shot, because I have rarely heard bad things about GenCon.
