If I promise to attend, can you promise to paint the store the same blue as it is right now?

So what your telling me if I don't paint the store the exact same color as it is now your not going to attend? Actually its going to be alittle darker. Greg helped me out so Its going to look great when its done.

Tongue-in-cheek playfulness.  I'll be there, though I had hoped the store would remain the light blue that it currently is (or was).

If I wasn't with family in Cleveland, I would have been there.

Will we have a report on the last event?

Visited Cleveland and didn't even make contact with the Team Serious Workshop Destruction Syndicate? Cold...... so cold....

Buddy, I would have loved to, but it was non-stop family stuff for the 72 hours I was in town.

We weren't actually asked to turn in decklists for this event, but if the top 8 is posted I'm sure people would know who was on what.

I'd really love to make this event, but with it so close to the holidays where I will be traveling a bunch, I may have to miss it. We shall see.

I might be bringing a new vintage player with me to this event.  Can someone post a link to the rules on accepable proxies.  Now that I am freshly married, moved into a new neighborhood in NYC, am now a landlord, and things have settled with the kids, I looking forward to more Vintage.

Stolen from another thread, but relevant here:

Proxies:

Most everyone on these forums knows what a proxy is.  A proxy, for the N.Y.S.E. Open, will be defined as the following:

A Magic the Gathering card with the full name, card type (instant, sorcery, land, artifact, creature, enchantment, planeswalker), full mana cost and text clearly displayed.  This can be done in one of two ways:

1.  Using a Sharpie, not pen or pencil, to fill in the required text on a card where it can clearly be read. (Revised lands are excellent for this, new commons and uncommons aren't usually, as they're darker, and far tougher to read.)

2.  Using acetone to remove certain text from a card that's close to the intended proxy (i.e. Lotus Bloom, with certain words removed to proxy a Black Lotus, Ancestral Visions with certain words removed to proxy an Ancestral Recall).

Take pride in your proxies! Your opponents should know (at all times) what your proxies are, because they're clearly defined.  Using 15 Swamps to make your proxies is a bad idea, as it's going to create confusion.  If you're proxying Moxen, please, use a Land from each appropriate color to make a proxy for that Mox (i.e., a Mox Sapphire is on an Island, a Mox Jet is on a Swamp, a Mox Pearl is on a Plains...).  Beyond that, please use your best judgment when creating your proxies - we know what will, and what won't, be easily recognizable.

Your opponents should not ever be at a disadvantage because you don't own the cards.  There is nothing wrong with using proxies as you slowly pick up the cards that you need to play Vintage, but please consider your opponents while you're making them, as we're out to make this an enjoyable experience for everyone involved.

If you're worried that your proxies may not pass muster, please speak to the head judge of the event before the event starts.  Leave enough time to create new proxies, if necessary.

Using paper printouts of card faces, and gluing them to cards, is not acceptable!  This alters the thickness of the cards, making the cards marked, for all intents and purposes.  Please don't do this, as the judges will be instructed to consider these as marked cards, and enforce punishment according to a DCI Competitive REL event!

I hope to drop by at some point during the day, but I have a lot of Christmas errands to run that day, and I don't think I'm going to be able to play.

17 players was excellent.  I was really glad to see that.

I beat UR/g Delver in round one, lost to Grixis with four maindeck Shattering Spree in round two, then lost to Dredge in round three on hands of three and four in games two and three (after strangely winning game one) before punting a win into a draw against Goblins in round four.

Still, I had a good day.

Who ended up winning the event?  Did the top four split?

I lost 3 Game 1's on Dredge and managed to lose my win and in to a lot of Ravenous Traps. Unsure how top 8 broke out, but I'm pretty sure it was a split between Alan, Mickey, Mike, and one other (my rd 5 opponent).

Yeah.  It got worse for me out of the sideboard.

Yeah.  It got worse for me out of the sideboard.

If that's where they started, I am not surprised!  Sad

Was it Jesse Squared? That seems like a Jesse Squared thing to do...

Sounds like Buck and Mike/Mickey split. Didn't realize you lost in the Quarters Alan.

Yeah I lost 1st round then winning the rest. Taking 1st place before the top 8 only to lose. Still always a great time with the vintage players.
