Thanks, Keith. I had a great time as usual, playing at Shawn's store. We brought a full car out to battle Vintage from the Scranton area and hope to continue bringing more. Supporting a fun format, with a great TO and shop, and some great people to hang out with makes the trips worth it, win, lose, or draw.
I finished 3-1-1 in Swiss with Terranova, expecting Blue decks that want to do degenerate things with their explosive starts and powerful spells and also expected to see Martello Shops who also do degenerate thing with their mana, Forgemasters, and BDR's (big dumb robots). I am a Null Rod player at heart and recently took a fondness to the Terranova build. My thanks to Shawn and the Forino brothers for discussing some options and advice with the build.
Rd1 Calvin H. on a Scary Planeswalker brew. Broken spells, counter spells, cantrips, Ashiok and Dack...I was askerred, but was able to take the set 2-1. Rd2 Dave R. on Martello Shops. He mulls hard this series and doesn't see enough of his accelerants to get going. Win 2-1 Rd3 JPot on UWR Bomberman Dack Jace. I was close in game one swinging with animated lands, but Tomb to activate them was too painful, as he was able to stabilize. Game 2 on the play went better for me, and game 3 was brutal. Josh had turn 1 SFM, fetching up a Batterskull. Life totals 34-2, GG, sir. Rd4 Matt M on 4c Peezy Dack Sauciness. I think game 1 Matt chained a ton of spells together, making many elementals, putting me away quickly. Games 2 and 3, Matt had some mana issues and my deck wasn't helping matters any, dropping resistors, applying pressure, and making his mana problems worse. Win 2-1 Rd5 Sean O intentional draw Top8 Justin N. on RBU Peezy Bob Hand Disruption deck. Both games I landed early LSGs and went to town, copying them whenever possible, and getting spheres down for good measure. Win 2-0 Top4 Bill S. on UW Landstill We had a pretty epic series here that went to three games. I made some crucial play errors here that may have led to some different results, but give credit where it is due, Bill played tight and was a pleasure to play against (even though he whomped a Serenity on me with multiple Mox, Batterskull, and Revoker in play!) A true gentleman among the format, and I wish him the best in his upcoming marriage!
I would consider experimenting with a card or 2, but the list feels consistent. It may not be the best in the room, or piloted by the best, but I like it. Props: Shawn for running the event and keeping them firing every month. My opponents for being cool, especially Dave and Matt because they are Steelers fans. My team and carmates...Ramrod ain't dead! Slops: The Chinese buffet guy was scrubbing the grease vents on top of some of the food. Kinda gross. Also saw a burned up truck on the effing highway on the way home! People gotta be more careful when the roads are slick...like Jeremy Beaver.
