Lin plays shops for first time. He was a regular at SuperStars a few years ago (ChannelFireball's physical store). What to do about my Sundering Titan?

He plays a Phyrexian Metamorph copying my Sundering Titan. I duplicate it and have only a 0/0 Duplicant (and 2 tangle wires) to show for it. Smile

Ibrahim vs Mike

all 3 games vs Lin were very lopsided, opening Chalice driven games.

James (left) playing his second Vintage Tourney. His first time, I handed him Shops. Today, playing LSV's Remora Control with zero testing!

BC's in the house! Blaine, I still have your Vendillion Clique Propaganda and Energy Flux

There were 5 Shop decks in top 8 and some not in top 8.

James repeals Oath like twice, and casts Jace 2.0 to deal with Grislebrand later.

Hair is David Ochoa, rocking Shops!

Sam Sherman is down for any format. It's Elliot!

Lin relishing the adrenaline of playing Vintage with no draw engine, and almost now way to respond to anything the opponent does.

This is how Blaine plays Magic: Trini, go?

I thought Michael (luudes) was playing Serum Powder.dec. I was wrong.

Stephen rehearses to himself what the correct order/timing for Plowing an animated WorldGorger Dragon.

Aahz vs Luudes while I get deckchecked.

My 11/11 Duplicant comes courtesy of my Staff of Nin draw! (also had Metamorph in hand.)

Leyline...

How can you lose when you have all the cards?

Webster plays 3 drop white dude that is a one man army.

I got Smennen game 1. I even ate an Insectile Aberation with my Hellkite! Also, Staff of Nin for the final ping. Ping!

He correctly deduced that since he killed my Tolarian Academy with his Strip Mine, he may as well kill my Crucible first. grrr.

I lose. Sad

I didn't get to see any of Davids games. Only quick snapshots. It would be awesome if he gave a mini-tourney report for old times sake.

Ibrahim had an Island so modified, no one could tell it was an island. (judge made him replace it. I dunno what altered card is in center screen)

I know Blaine won at least one match in like 5 minutes. Probably not this one.

Nothing went right for Charlie this game.

This just looks lopsided.

Revokers be Revoking!

I think Smennen has like 10 SB cards vs shops.

Hatebears be hating!

Random game

Eventually Mike solves the puzzle and steals James only mana source.

That's a Jace 2.0 proxy being guarded by a True Name Nemesis proxy. Eventually James does NOT solve the puzzle of upticking Jace for the win, and simply waits 5 turns for Vendillion Clique to show up.

Random Game

Aahz's manabase was all city of brass, mana confluence and ancient tombs.  He did have gemstone lantern in there to help. (the 3mana artifact that turns all lands into rainbow lands)

Revoker on Welder

Top 8

1st turn Dack Fayden vs Shops. Good enough?

10 turns later, Smennen steals Tangle Wire!

Smennen's adjustments of +3 Delver, max Gush and only 3 DTT are pretty much exactly how I see that flavor of Mentor evolving. Over time I further expect max Delver, less Mentors, less DTT and those StP's becoming Bolts.

Basically, UR Delver splashing white for a few Mentors.

The maindeck delvers maximizing 1 land hand keeps were backbreaking.

Twas a brilliant move by Smennen.  The red was for Dack, Pyro, and SB hate (mostly 1 mana hate vs Chalice at 1. Quite effective vs the glut of Shop players in Norcal)

A great time, as always. Thanks for posting up lists and pics!

You're missing my sideboard:
4 Lodestone Golem
3 Kuldotha Forgemaster
3 Wurmcoil Engine
1 Steel Hellkite
1 Sundering Titan
1 Trinisphere
2 Chains of Mephistopheles

Also, Sam wasn't there. You must be referring to Eliot.

Interesting lists. I played a list back in February with Delver/Mentor which was quite close to Steve's. If he has time I'd like to here some of the thought process, since I've recently considered going back to something along those lines. I played a 2/2 split of Mentor/Pyromancer and feel like I'd want at least a 3/1 split, since frequently you have to bottom a mentor because the extra mana is problematic, especially with 4 gushes. I like some number of swords over bolts because it answers the bigger dudes from shops (and Salvagers, which is a thing in the Northeast).

Fun tournament for sure. I was happy to do as well as I did.

The mentor list is definitely Spicy. For the Terra-Nova style deck, it meant he didn't win/lose in turn1-3. He was able to grind out games even after I had established a board position. In one of our fun matches, he ground out a game through 5 spheres!

So my mini-report.

James Saunders wanted to play Shops. He has the Workshops. He has the wastelands. He has 2 peices of Power. But not all the random stuff. So we get together Saturday, he builds his deck and we test it against everything in my arsenal.

He plays Mud against Monastery Mentor, he plays against Oath. He plays against Dredge. He plays against my Tezzeret Affinity deck. He loves it.

At the end of the day, he wants to play LSV's Mystic Remora Deck (the mono-blue one). So I go home, spend a few hours assembling it, finding suitable proxies, etc and goldfishing the shit out of my Vault Skirge.CranialPlating.dec...

Then he convinces me to play his Forgemaster Shop Aggro build.  I have to replace the 4 grafdiggers cage that he needed from this SB, and I'm off

Round 1 I play against Lin Cheng playing pretty much the mirror.

all three of our games are lopsided blowouts due to Chalice of the Void and going first. Very fun, but very lopsided

Round 2 I play against Ibrahim playing what I thought was Trygon Predator.dec due to my "scouting". Even after I get a game 1 loss due to not writing down "KarakasX1" in my sb decklist, I get lucky and Dupe his BSC, and do the lockdown thing game three.

Round 3 I get back from re-parking my car just in time not to get another game loss vs Smennen.
We have a fairly epic game 1, with him getting me down to 2 fairly quickly via Delver/Ancient Tomb beats. I think I get to waste a land while he was tapped out under Thorn of Amethyst. At some point, Stephen says "I go to discard..." and I decide it was a good idea to Activate Kuldatha Forgemaster to get something awesome into play, namely Steel Hellkite.  Well, this gives Stephen a chance to play a spell since I sack'ed my Chalice and Thorn. I learned earlier to a resolved Mystical Tutor (at 2 life) that Stephen didn't maindeck Lightning Bolts this time. Anyways, I live to kill an Insectile Abberation via 2nd ability at x=0, and at 2 life stephen Swords my Hellkite putting me back to a glorious 7 life.  I play STAFF OF NIN, attack with forgemaster, and ping him for last point.

Game 2 he Forces something, and Swordsed something, and killed me.
Game 3 I thought I could overwhelm hims with all my dudes/locks, but alas, he got me.

Round 4 I play against Charlies "Dragon?" deck?
Game 1 I THINK I control the game with a Thorn, Factory, and both my Tangle Wires.
Game 2 he goes MOX MOX MOX SOL RING, Intuition for Dig X3 (I give him Dig), Go!
I play tormod's crypt, and he never sees a 2nd blue source

Round 5 I shake hands with and ID with Bryan on Shops.

In top 8 I face Adam "Aahz" Tellen
A top 8 split was optioned. Our judge gave us each a mountain and a plains. we gave him a Mountain of War or a Plains of Peace via secret Ballot. I gave him a mountain. So we are off to top 8.
I win both games, but both were very fun.
After I lose the die roll, I realized I was top seed (Judge had to let us know who was top seed cuz we forgot it was a thing...)
So I got to go first.

I keep a Factory Strip Mox hand that I thought would be first turn 3 drop, then after keeping did the math (1 plus 1 is apparently 2 folks...)
I play Factory Go. He plays Shop Painter Grindstone Go.
I play Revoker. Lots of revokers.  I don't remember rest of game, but I do remember him resolving a Chromatic Lantern (since I have no blue cards), and trying to cast some other thing. As he tapped Mana Confluence, I was like..."whoa...you wanna pay life for that?" he untapped, retapped, paid his life and resolved something (lets say, Helm or somthing).  This incident might have been game 2. Who knows. I was like "That's way cooler than you not paying life due to your lantern snort smirk Smile"
I got him that game, but I don't remember details.
Game 2 I think he mulls to 5. There was an incident where he plays Bazaar, gets his cards, does somthing (I think play Lantern off shops) then realize that shop just came into play. as did Bazaar. We backed up, he discarded 3, and I did factory beats for a few turns.  At some point, he drops 2 Wurmcoil Engines into my Untapped Kuldatha Forgemaster. He was at I think 6, and I had Infy mana. GGs!

David indicated that he had stuff to do and would very much like a top 4 split, I had things to do (Game of Thrones/doing Mr Neilson stuff), so I was down.
Stephen didnt care enough to protest and Bryan was either way, so... Lets admit it. David (shops) won the die roll, so I assume he beat me. Stephen played on vs Bryan, so I'm sure he will let us know if he made it to finals vs David and split the finals, or if Stephen was relegated to just top 4 and the finals was a SHOPS SPLIT!

Great day of battle!
