 {R} {G} {B}

Hey guys, I'm trying to get a metagame/Fish deck together to play on MTGO.  I'm targeting Gush decks and Workshop decks.  I'm coming to these boards because I'm trying to discover some cards that would fit well.  One card in particular I'm wondering about is a creature (most likely red) that can enter the battlefield and sweep Young Pyromancer and tokens.  Does anyone know what this card is?

Even though its in the sideboard, Leyline of Lifeforce is part of the motivation to play creatures; that is how I plan to get around Mental Misstep, Chalice of the Void, and other counterspells.  I'm also playing Vexing Shusher in the maindeck and leaning towards Bloodbraid Elf and zero Moxes/Lotus.  I don't want to play too many spells because they can just be countered.  Creatures will have more support and are better for the tempo game anyway.

I feel with 4 Ingot Chewers, 4 Ancient Grudges, basic lands, mana dorks, and possibly some Shattering Sprees I could have a lot of artillery against Workshops.

Also, any other creatures that trigger effects when they are cast (Bloodbraid Elf)?

I've been trying to put Plague Spitter in everything. It's a poor fit in everything at the moment because you really want to be aggressive due to the life loss, but the best aggressive strategy in the format is Delver + Pyro which has negative synergy.

Maybe you can make it work.

Does it need to be a creature? Minister of Pain fits your description but it seems worse than toxic deluge.

Fire Ants is probably the best answer for Pyromancer in particular as long as you can untap.  Bloodfire Dwarf is one that is easier on the curve with immediate impact.  Inferno Titan, caldera hellion, shard pheonix, thrashing wumpus are some of the many higher mana options.

You might also consider Scalding Salamander. It's one-sided, which also means it's good in multiples, but it's pretty bad against Mentor.

I don't think that Leyline of Lifeforce is going to do a lot for you. It doesn't do much by itself, which wouldn't be a big problem if you didn't have to run 4, but if you don't, well. Honestly, just don't do it. It doesn't stop your opponents plan which is to draw more cards than you and grow some dudes and multiple copies are just redundant pieces of cardboard. I bet you would lose more games to drawing multiples (or even just one Very Happy) than by making sure your Deathrite enters the field. You already brought up Vexing Shusher, which is miles ahead of Leyline. Cavern of Souls is also a card and I'm sure you will find enough creatures that share types (e.g. Deathrite, Fauna Shaman, Bloodbraid are all elves). 8 cards to prevent your opponent from countering your shenanigans sounds quite sufficient.

Even with Bloodbraid I'd still play 3 Moxes and a Lotus. Tempo is just way too important, and if you already hit a piece of power to accelerate into your elf you are at something like 7-8% to hit another Lotus/ Mox which is fine.

As for the creatures you are looking for I'd try to avoid creatures that you need to untap with to have any effect. Giving your opponent another turn while only getting something like a grey ogre at the high cost of 3 mana is just not acceptable. Minister of Pain and Bloodfire Dwarf are probably the best cards named so far for what you intend to do.  Martyr of Ashes is also intriguing, but demands a high red count.

Caltrops stops pyromancer...that's it.  Delver flies over as a 3/2...Mentor and tokens get too big.  Pyrotokens can still chump all day while delver does the unblocked damage.

Chains of mephistopheles might be an option (stops their card drawing/cantriping).  Anger of the Gods is a cheap sweeper.  Illness in the Ranks is probably the best, fast answer to both mentor and pyro tokens.

Hey guys thanks for the reply. I felt I was getting blown out by Mental Misstep too easily without Cavern of Souls; the turn one mana dork was a critical piece of mana development. In my eyes the one drop is what needs to be uncounterable since the mental misstep trade is just so one sided. I don't mind trading a two drop with a Force, so it would make sense to play some moxes.

Tokens is huge in standard also and I have found Anger of the Gods to be very useful. Exiling all lil dudes is useful as well since it helps against delve etc.

Circle of Flame is on color and harder to remove.  But as mentioned this only solves one specific problem and no others.

Sharpshooter guns down Pyro tokens, it's less successful against Mentor tokens although over an end of turn into your turn it might get the job done if they have no instants. He's also a goblin which is a pretty good creature to be in Asmadi.

- Tin Street Hooligan
- Stingscourger
- Shusher
- maybe even Goblin Settler
