Over the Queen’s birthday long weekend, Next Level Games, Dandenong was host to a bounty of Magic Events. The Eternal MASTERS series of events has been a mainstay of Australian Magic since 2010 with Eternal LEDGENDS. Sanctioned Vintage, Legacy, and Australian 7 Point Highlander being the main attractions along with a small streamed 93/94 tournament. All tournaments were streamed via twitch.tv and can be found under past broadcasts related to Sneak and Show who were kind enough to provide the equipment and expertise. Sneak and Show’s profile can be found here: http://www.twitch.tv/sneakandshow You can expect these to stick around and will no doubt be added to the YouTube archives sometime soon.

However, this is TMD. You are all here for the Vintage results.

We had 50 players for Sanctioned Vintage on Saturday 6th June 2015. 50 is a huge number beating our previous record (set last year at the same event found here: http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=46891.0 ). Vintage in Australia keeps getting bigger and better with many experienced players finding their way out to the suburban Melbourne store for a host of prizes. With Moxen, Jaces, and various other prizes going out, everyone knew that this was going to be big. In addition to many of our well experienced Vintage pilots, there were a number of fresh faces, those whose interest had only been ignited in the last 12 months or so, or those whose fire for the eternal formats had been rekindled after laying dormant.

At the end of the day however, it was Former National Highlander Champion Jacob Dunn who added the title of Current Vintage MASTER to his resume piloting his version of Espresso Stax to victory over the field defeating the very consistent Graham King (previous Vintage Champion) with his tried and true Bomberman build.

There were few suprises in the field with the expected and prepared for Mentor decks being mostly beaten into the ground in the early rounds left a number of decks that many were not expecting to do well doing so. Adam Amy cruised into top 8 with a flash from the past Golden Gun Oath list featuring Emrakul and Blighsteel over the more expected Griselbrand version.  With only Espresso Stax putting more than a single copy into our top 8, we had plenty of action in our final tables.

At the end of the day, our field looked like this:

9-16 TBA

It was a great event and a huge turnout, the largest sanctioned vintage event in the southern hemisphere for many years. I hope to see you all again next year.

Once again, a huge thank you to Next Level Games for their tireless effort at supporting the eternal formats in Melbourne. This annual event has become a pilgrimage for many interstate players and its continued growth shows no signs of slowing. A big thank you also to the folks from Sneak and Show who streamed the entire event (Vintage, 93/94, Legacy, Highlander, as well as pickup games). These games can be found under past broadcasts but I am sure will be uploaded to youtube etc in the future (Note: the Vintage events are labelled –TEST in the past broadcast section of their profile (www.twitch.tv/sneakandshow/profile/past_broadcasts).

Portcullis best innovation I've seen in MUD for a while! Prop on Josh Archer for digging nearly 20years deep into the card pool. The card is like $0.25, stock up before SCG buys out the market

@Tribet

FYI Antonio Musara top2 list from MKM Series in Rome (12th of April) already played 3 Porticulis in the sideboard:

Ha! I already stocked up a few months ago when Mentor came out... and have yet to profit! :p

Card is solid though - we'll see if it remains a good tool to fight the meta.

Wouldn't crawlspace be better against mentor?  It never presents an issue with playing your own creatures.

Portcullis does present a problem for oath though, until they can oath and in response kill a creature or the portcullis.

Yeah Portcullis looks good against Oath especially with the Orchard tokens they give you. It works against Dredge too (a tad slow maybe).

Ill say the card probably competes with Witchbane Orb slots in the side and in the current meta Portcullis just looks much better.

Slops to MTGTop8 for returning 0 search result.

TCDecks website did return only one other entry dating 2005! here

Twitch erased your past broadcasts, unless you bounced them over to YouTube. If you did please let us know, always fun watching paper vintage!
