I was wondering if anyone has worked out an efficient system of notation for playtesting and review purposes.  I have tried, in vain, for about a year.  In the end my notebooks are unintelligble after about a month.  I know Steve uses his laptop, and I may resort to this, but has anyone used a less cumbersome method?

Also has anyone ever found any of the following:

A Palm Application for Deckbuilding, sort of like App's Deck Builder,
An updated Palm App with Card Text and Rulings (the DCI one is still on Legions), and
A Palm App with the Comprehensive and Floor rules that has been updated recently?

Thanks

What I generally do is play games against a specific archtype, makes sure I take relevant notes during the game, then record records in the form of matches (which Smmenen doesn't do and/or approve of).

So, for example, against Hulk with Keeper:

Game 1: Wasted 2 lands while he saw no acceleration, resolved a Shaman, the made a Decree for 4.

Game 2: He resolved Intuition, splitting a Duress and 2 Deep Analysis. I gave him a Deep Analysis because he couldn't hard cast it. He Flashes the graveyard one away on his next main phase, and drops a lotus. He hard casts the other one soon after. I draw mana denial, but it's too late at this point.

Game 3: I win a counter war early on, and get 5 Drain mana that I use to make 3 Soldier Tokens. Once he's put on a clock, he digs frantically for a Tog, which I REB with FoW back up. Tokens go all the way.

Keeper 2 - Tog 1

This kind of thing is remembered mentally and easily recorded right after, or if I need to take notes my own pig-scribble will leave me enough clues as to what happened.

Heh, I don't dissaprove - I approve of any notation ANYONE wants to make.  Reporting is the most important thing.

I just prefer the play-by-play becuase I think it is more revealing.

Heres a link to an Eric Taylor post from '97. With a few personal tweaks it works great.

I record notes pretty much like Zherbus, except I have 2 columns of lifetotals and write what key events happen at what lifetotals. If the turn # is important I also add that in there too.

I do the MoxLotus thing too.. only I typically always include turn #'s, playing combo and all. So far it's worked out pretty well, but I haven't really tried any other method..
There is certainly more to gain from the play-by-play, but I (and most others I assume) test often enough that it would be cumbersome to try to always use this method. Maybe doing the play-by-play for one match vs. each deck you test against is a viable alternative?
