Okay, quick question:

Is everyone going to have prove themselves again to get full member status?  Even former full members, such as myself, who might not have time to contribute anything earth-shatteringly brilliant at the present time?  Am I just going to have to suck it up and be a newbie until the semester ends?

You don't need to be brilliant to get an upgrade. A few posts with good advice could be enough.

I looked at the board FAQ, but couldn't find anything about the policy on swearing. Is it allowed? Frowned upon?

It's frowned upon in the serious forums and will result in a warning.

In community and such it's basically allowed if it's used in a funny way and isn't targeted diretcly at others or generally hurtful or discriminating.

In another thread, I tried to link to another website, but the link distorted the whole post formatting.

Is this a bug, or a shortcoming with phpBB, or something else?

A PM response or reply would be great!

Thanks.

Sometimes, if a post is too wide (a link or pic or whatever) the post gets wider than the other ones, at least on the old ikonboard forums.

Lemme this this:

<edit>Theory tested</edit>

It works on here, too. So please post smalle pics and shorts urls or make links to url's like this.

What is the reasoning behind limiting certain forums to "users granted special access"? I can sort of understand the "Type 1" Forum - which is just becoming a crappy version of the "Open Type 1 Forum" anyway - but why can't basic users post in the tournament forum? Isn't the point of the forum to have tournament announcements posted from all over the place and have members reflect on tournaments by posting reports and such? What is the logic behind limiting posting rights to certain members? That just doesn't make much sense at all...

Also, I would have posted this in the Community forum, but I don't have posting rights in that either.

I'm not a moderator or anything, but I think I can answer your question.

This is a private site, so Zherbus can do whatever the hell he wants.

In all seriousness, it is a very effective and reasonable policy.  TMD is, hands down, the best Vintage website and community on the internet.  To maintain such a high standard of quality, people who aren't as knowledgable, experienced, or otherwise capable of making beneficial contributions should need to prove their value before being given access to the higher-caliber forums.

As far as the Tournament forum being given public access, anyone can just post their tournament announcements in the open forums and leave it to the moderators to move those to the appropriate forums.

Right, but where's the logic in that?  That just seems like un-needed extra work for moderators.

True; but this way, people are prevented from making useless comments in reply to tournament threads that are really little more than spam.  Also, it prevents people from using virtually using the forum as a private messenger (which happened from time to time on the old forums, IIRC).

Finally, it really doesn't take that long to move threads from one section to another (if this forum software is like any of the ones i've worked with).

Yep, I understand this, but isn't every forum the same way?  There are pros and cons to letting basic users post not letting them post.  I guess it's no more than an admin's choice.  I would really enjoy the privledge to post on tournament report and announcement threads though.

The tournament forum is an extension of the primary type 1 forum. The reason it is restricted access, is to keep the level of tournament analysis and reports high, while keeping 'Ill be there with my homiez dood!' responses to announcements to a minimum.

Older full access members can request the membership review team to vote them in (which has been an excellent system so far) at any time. To expedite this, and to make it lean more towards your favor, please provide links to sample work whether it be from the new boards, another site, or the archives of old TMD.

For some reasons, the archives of the old newbie forums end at March 11, 2003 (with the exception of one thread)!! Why is this? Will we ever be able to see archived posts from November and December of the newbie forums? Could you please PM me the answer? Thanks.

I love the new forums by the way. THey are infinately superior.

Unfortunately, the Ikonboard team did a piss poor job backing up the original  TMD forums. I can only restore what I have; the rest is unfortunately gone forever...

I just tried to edit a post of mine in the Casual forum, but I see that function is restricted... I would recommend allowing this, but I could settle for a good explanation as to why it is not allowed.

Thanks.

Edit: another comment here...  I cannot see the far right side of the message board when my window is maximized and when my favorites column is up.  I think the software checks the size of your window (whether you have a favorites window or not) and sizes the forum accordingly.  This feature is more of a nice to have, but I wanted to post to notify mods about the problem.

Where do we do this?  Who do we PM (since I thought the point was to keep the review team secret)?

You can PM Zherbus, and he'll let the review team know about your request.

Letting basic users edit their posts lets them remove stuff that the moderators add, like verbal warnings. It's too much of a hassle, basically.

If I want to PM 3 or 4 people how do I send a group private message?  For some reason I can't figure out how to send one PM to multiple people.

If this has already been asked, my apologies.

Unfortunately, the current software only lets you PM one person or one group (eg the mods) at a time.

Greetings,
Now that I'm a born again newbie, is there any chance the Community Forum will be opened to newbies and fellow former full members. It just seems something called Community Forum should be open to all. Hope I posted this in the right place. Thanks for your time.

Basic Users not being able to post in the Tourney Forum is pissing me off.

Maybe a separate forum can be created for these users to post tourney related items?

What a coincidence, 'cause basic users reviving nearly-four-month-old threads are pissing *me* off.

As for your remark: learn to live with it. And to answer your question: no.

Basic users can post tournament stuff in the basic user community forum, if you really have to.

Out of curiousity, why can't basic users post to the Humor Section? That seems like something that should be open to all.

That would result in rampant spam.

I really don't understand why there is no threads about fashion , dressing , shoes , make up or models .
Shall I avoid the "blond attitude" ?

I dunno , maybe its because 99.987689 % of TMD members are Male who discuss the important things in life like savage tech , pr0n , Cardboard crack etc. And like Zherbus and everybody said TMD is a site that focuses on Vintage because there are other websites that are better then TMD in that field.

Not a question so much as a comment on the new software:
The login feature to maintain your login status does not seem to work very well.
I have had to log in 'forever' 3 times. I would log in, be good for a while, then have to log in again. Maybe forever just isn't as long as I thought it was.  Very Happy
