No, 5 colorless is not that easy. A quick brainstorm of eligible colorless producers: City of Traitors, Ancient Tomb, Grim Monolith, Mana Crypt, Mana Vault, Wasteland, Strip Mine, Library of Alexandria, Mishra's Factory. Getting two or three of those in addition to the [unnamed tome] itself is pretty conditional. I suggest lowering it to a single draw, and lowering the activation cost from five to two.

the point was that it isn't easy to get to 5 colorless, therefore, making this not as abuseable in decks that are colorful. good in an artifact deck however...

I think it could easily just cost 4 to cast and 4 to activate, just like good old Book! (Jayemdea Tome, that is.)
It mirrors an existing card with a twist, which is nice. It becomes both better and worse at once. And think of it as a book costing GGGG, T:... That's harsh, man. And colorless mana is even less valuable than green mana, so it is even harder to come by.
I'm one for voting for the 4 / 4, T: plan.

Yeah, that more or less kills the idea. So much for trying to use an established storyline character with minimal knowledge of the storyline. I suppose I'll just have to make up a name.

braille tome sounds kinda silly. this is a world beyond our own. they have different writing systems and whatnot. who is to say that they even have a way for blind people to read?

Yes, it's new and modern and I don't like it myself, but the vedalken are an artifact-oriented race that is all for gathering knowledge.
knowledge = two cards
artifact orientated = only colorless mana

acctually, i would like to stray away from using anything from the new sets because i would hope that this eventually gets into our set. i don't think our set will have that gay race.
