Crazy Carl Presents "This Year in Type 1," 100% Guaranteed To Be More Interesting Than Smmenen's
by Carl Winter

Fun stuff. I'm glad to see my Zherbus comment get more press. :D

Carl..in all fairness - you have to understand why people would question your play skill and the importance of being 'vintage world champion' when Eastman wasn't even at the event.

I actually have to express my overall disapproval for the article, which I plan to do for any article written in which I am not mentioned by name.

I didn't see "The Black One" in your sig, Carl... Has Vermont finally triumphed over your ebony-ness?

Fun article.

It's sort of like Extended on crack.

You know what? I'm pretty sure that there's an inverse relationship between the amount of times a person likens things to being like something "on crack" and the amount of actual experience they have with crack.

Come to think of it, that's probably true of pimps, ninjas, pirates, and practically everything the magic community reveres.

The description of Zherbus was top-notch humor, though. Play to your strengths!

Zherbus, a super powerful computer that cranks out Keeper lists every three months or so, yet unable to attend events because wheels have yet to be attached to his case.

Muhahaha!

Even so, I feel betrayed since you didn't mention the Dutch in an article that was about the highlights of T1 in 2003.

The aftermath of the championship was a much, much more defined metagame with many, many viable archetypes. Hulk originally stood out as the primary contender for "Best Deck," finally taking Keeper off it's throne and throwing it to a curb, where it now deals in stolen watches and long-haired cats to pay it's rent for the apartment in the Philippines down the street from Oscar.

I told him to tell the editor to change it to TMD events because it makes me sound like Rakso. The day I become like him is the day my cards go on eBay.

Carl's article covers a lot of the important parts of this last year, but the one big thing that wasn't explained out in the open is the crystalization of the T1 community. How many posters on this board have traveled near and far just to meet people? How many trades have been made via the posters here? How many people have made new friends - if they've met or not - via the Manadrain's forums and IRC channels? Even myself, who's normally a bit reclusive, I hit my regular con's this year and then went to the Manadrain event in Syracuse, not even to play really - though I had a deck - but to meet people.

It's a hobby we share, a good game and the love of compeitition. Here's to a friend filled fun time in 2004.

Eastman - That's just a tad egotistical, ne? While I have all the respect in the world for team Hadley, I find it hard to believe that Rockstar > Psychatog.

What's a Magic team without rampant, egomaniacal self-aggrandizement? Honestly, the community would collapse if we were each forced to acknowledge that we are not, in fact, the best player in the world. Think of the chaos!

Carl: In order to have a public rivalry with Smmenen, you have to write more often so that no one forgets the feud.

It would only be egotistical if it weren't true.

Stephen and a few others (myself included), began to play the deck more often, and people became more and more worried about the deck's power, and by worry, I mean people didn't really listen and pointed out the deck's weakness to the deck's bane, Stormbind (Sorry Stephen).

Ahh man- if only I had gotten mine signed, it would be going on ebay for TONS right now  (Just kidding Steve)

Good article Carl.  Although don't you think you could have mentioned Hadley when you were talking about Chronic?  Not only was it definitely made in Hadley- but it's one of the coolest deck names in a while Smile
