Main Deck: Stone Rain x4 have not been swapped  out for the 4 Cursed Scrolls yet as I do not have them, instead I included 3 Grim Lavamancers for the meantime. If anyone has other suggestions for this slot I am open.

Discuss if you like, I'm developing this deck. I play in Type 1 Tournaments every week at the Adventurers Guild in Eau Claire, WI. I've placed 1st a few times and top 3'd many times with this deck. I had gotten out of Magic for about 5 years and have now gotten back into it and this is the route I have taken since returning.

Your deck is different from normal R/G beats.  Also, I would like to point out that Birds of Paradise, call of the herd, both die to a deed for one...  I understand it's a good way to rid yourself of general brokeness....  but so is mox monkey.  I don't know your meta, so that might influience it as well.  I don't know if I really appreciate the splash, because it hurts a lot of tradtional Beats cards, such as kird Ape and Co..  Perhaps your deck should also run MD Negators...  Maybe lean a bit to b/r/g quazi sui?  Sinkhole would also be a good replacement, as would beserk.

When I first looked at your deck it seemed to me that you are not playing R/G beats, but more of a R/G aggro-control type of deck.  I used to play something similar and had a lot of success with it.

The first thing I would say would be to focus your deck more... if you are going for beatdown then remove the slow elements in the deck.  If you are going for more of a controling deck then you need to go for more of a mana denial theme.  Here is what I would do for control.

- Add some gorilla shamans, they are amazing at creating tempo and mana denial.
- Remove the Spiritmongers, they are way to slow.
- Look into adding River Boas, excellent creature that can regenerate through deed.
- Look into adding Dwarven Miners / Blastminers.... in an enviroment with many non-basics they can destroy your opponent.
- Get the scrolls, they are just plain amazing.
- You could try Null Rods, Root Maze, or Damping Matrix but those require a restructuring of the deck.

There is another problem I see with your deck.  You have very few first turn plays.  This is really where you have to establish the mana denial, or else the game is going to be over.  You also are lacking second turn plays if you don't have birds.

I really like the ideas you have going here.  I am interested to see what happens with the deck, so please keep posting your results.

Edited my original post to include my current changes to the deck. I won't bother people with another complete decklist. Instead I post my changes here.

I will be testing it with the 2 Spiritmongers and 4 Stone Rains changed out for 3 Grim Lavamancers and 3 Gorilla Shamans. Next Friday is the next Type 1 tournament and I will test the current version again then. In the Sideboard I have changed out the 2 Composts for 2 Dwarven Miners for additional disruption in a heavy nonbasic meta.

Originally this deck was named Iso-mancer Control. It had 3 Isochron Scepters to take advantage of the Burn Spells along with Naturalize and Sideboarded Artifact Mutations. I have taken the Scepters out and have begun testing it this way. I also have taken out the main-decked Mox Diamond currently - basing this on extensive play. I found myself holding the Mox Diamond just a little too often. Our environment has taken a lot of aggressive steps to be disruptive towards Non-Basics and a small mana-base in general.

Sunday Feb. 8th I took this deck to Dreamers in the Twin Cities, MN. A Type 1 tournament with a Mox Pearl as the prize was the event. I have Edited my first post above to the actual Decklist for this Event. Here were the results -

Match 1: This match would initiate me into Dreamers and I was hoping to do well.

Game 1: I play in Type 1 tournaments every Friday at our shop in Eau Claire, WI (The Adventurers Guild) and the deck that I fear most for some odd reason is Goblins. Wouldn't you know the first deck I meet is a Recruiter/Ringleader Goblin deck. The first game takes a rather long time as I am able to hold out without much life left until a Grenade and a Fireblast send me burning into the next game.

Game 2: I recall seeing Cursed Scroll hit the table and so I decide to switch out my 3 Naturalizes and 1 Spiritmonger with an Artifact Mutation, 2 Engineered Plagues and 1 Mindtwist. The game starts well with an early Engineered Plague and I am able to stabilize and come over the top with my beats.

Game 3: I stayed with the same board and was able to get an Engineered Plague out pretty much the same way as the 2nd game.

Matches: 1 - 0
Games: 2 - 1

Match 2: After not seeing the reckless charged Lackey in my first match I was feeling pretty good. This match would show me that I shouldn't get too confident that I won't see him again.

Game 1: First turn Lackey, ecstatic yeah... on my part. I have no answer in my hand and no answer until the next turn. Things are hazy from here, but I remember losing at least that much is for sure.

Game 2: Well at least I'm used to playing against Goblins so I bring in 2 Engineered Plagues and 1 Mindtwist to replace my 3 Naturalizes. I leave the Spiritmonger in this time as I don't think I saw a Cursed Scroll. This game went fairly quickly as I tutor up an Engineered Plague on 3rd turn or so...

Game 3: See Game 2 but replace the Engineered Plague with a 2nd turn Mindtwist for 3 cards thanks to a top-decked Mox Jet. Things could have been worse for me as I randomly choose for him to discard 2 Goblin Warchiefs and another card that I do not remember at this point. Appharently I left him with nothing else for his other 2 cards and I am able to ride my beats home for this match.

Matches: 2 - 0
Games: 4 - 2

Match 3: Things are going well for me so far, but I haven't seen much of the rest of the field here. I'd played 2 Goblin decks and had fair draws for both of the final 2 games in each match. Now I play TnT.

Game 1: I had no idea what I was playing against TnT both games... mostly this is because since returning to Magic I had not had the luxury of playing against TnT at all. Except for the 1st turn Survival of the Fittest and some artifact creatures I had no idea what was going on. The first few plays involve me playing Gorilla Shaman to get rid of the 3 moxes he had on the table and Naturalizing his Survival. He then plays a Masticore which I see with my Troll Ascetic. He pitches roughly 4 cards to Masticore before realizing he isn't getting anywhere... in the end I win with Trolls and Elephants.

Game 2: This time he is able to get more mana, but I am able to Artifact Mutation his Solemn Simulacrum and lay some more Troll Ascetics just for good measure. Just to be redundant I played a Spiritmonger the turn before I won. Neither game did he have a chance to drop a Goblin Welder and so I had no idea I even needed my Planar Voids which were still sitting in the sideboard.

Matches: 3 - 0
Games: 6 - 2

Match 4: Paired up against who I presume is waSP with RG Beatz We both draw in to the top 8 with 3-0 records.

TOP 8

Yeah... my first round in the top 8 gets me matched up against Jake. Jake is a good friend of mine that I play against every Friday night in our tournaments at the Adventurers Guild. Actually it was cool because either way someone from our shop was getting into the Top 4.

Games 1, 2, and 3: It all went pretty quickly in my opinion. We've already played each other multiple times with these very decks. Game 1 went to Jake, Game 2 went to me, and Game 3 went to Jake. I really didn't see anything spectacular in my 3rd game against him but I was waiting for it. I held a Mox Ruby and Black Lotus in my hand to be able to play a Troll or Spiritmonger if the chance came up. I kept them in my hand because Jake always has the Mox Monkey when he needs it, but the beats never did show up and Jake was able to take the win.

Props to:
Troll Ascetic for being the 'house' I think they are.
Engineered Plague for doing it's job against my Goblin enemies.
Artifact Mutation for being there when I needed it.

Slops to:
Jake for being a good Magic player and for knowing how to roll over my deck so well lol...

I played a quite similar deck in Duelmen and was quite successful. I did not include the black-splash, which I personally think is not needed.

Here is what I played:

Mana:
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Ruby
1 Strip Mine
4 Wasteland
4 Taiga
4 Wooded Foothills
3 Forest
3 Mountain

Critters:
4 Blurred Mongoose
3 River Boa
4 Gorilla Shaman
3 Grim Lavamancer
4 Kird Ape
4 Mogg Fanatic

Burn:
4 Cursed Scroll
4 Incinerate
4 Lightning Bolt

Utility:
4 Naturalize

Sideboard:
2 Artifact Mutation
3 Pyrokinesis
4 Pyrostatic Pillar
4 Red Elemental Blast
2 Tormod’s Crypt

I did not use Troll Ascetic, because of the 2 green mana. But they are very nice, and can be included if the manabase is adjusted slightly. Treetop Villages help, too. I did not play them by that time (today I do).

Against Goblins (which I feared too Wink ) I had the Mogg Fanatics, which proved to be very valuable. Scroll and Lavamancer came close on MVP against Gobos.

Blurred Mongoose is a tough challenge for a Keeper-deck, which is heavily played by very skillful players in Germany. They helped a lot to win 4 matches against Keeper in Duelmen.
