Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Report] **A dice roll away from T8 in Johnston RI**

Smash you never have anything positive to say,
All in all it sounds like you had fun even thought you lost to madness twice in a row with your uber wog tech, pff. I know u like to be a rebel but some things have to be done the way they are done, and WoG staying out of T1 decklists is one of those things. Better luck next time, and besides you do damn good down in the RI tournies no need to be disappointed over a small loss such as this.

Eternal Formats / Creative / [Deck Tech] why not run anger in oshawa stompy?

It already has bazaars to die to wastes, you want to screw yourself over even more? This deck doesn't need speed, its a control deck, just a different form of one. Also, I recommend the version that makes main hate in exchange for the Survivals, just through my own experience, i like to actually be a mono g aggro control, not a new madness variant.

Eternal Formats / Creative / Black Hole a Variant to Chalice Black, Better or not?

Running Negator main with no way to protect him versus topdecked burn or creatures is bad karma. If you are in a control meta thats fine, but you didn't post a meta ::cough:: how would I know. Fetchlands, not so good in this, i suggest removing them for swamps, or if you have them, Mishra's Factorys. Now if you are in a control meta, that means the Hymns are an aweful, AWEFUL idea! They are misdirectable and that causes pain. Chalice is a fine card do not disregard it.
-3 bloodstained mire -2 swamp +4 mishras factory +1 lotus petal
-4 hymn +4 cabal therapy
consider adding negators to sb and using hippes main
that should help

Eternal Formats / Creative / U/w/r Chronic up for critique

Exactly. Why run Intuition when you can run Yawg Will and DT for virtually no added nonbasic disruption. Kerz told me its better to just find a way to deal with the thing thats causing the disruption, not try to accomodate it (the basic lands)

Eternal Formats / Creative / U/w/r Chronic up for critique

Ever since I got my 4 Isochrons I have wanted to play a Chronic type deck. I figured since there is no thread in this forum started yet I'll start it myself. Here's the list i came up with
Control: 4 FoW 4 Drain 3 Fire/ice 3 StP
Draw/Tool: 1 Time Walk 1 Ancestral 1 Mystical (Good to find a StP to imprint) 2 Cunning Wish (This deck almost begs for this card) 4 Accumulated Knowledge 3 Brainstorm
Win: 2 Decree of Justice 3 Isochron Scepter (Only because drawing 2 early tends to suck)
Mana: 4 Volcanic Island 4 Tundra 1 Lotus 1 Sapphire 1 Ruby 1 Pearl 4 Flooded Strand 3 Wasteland 1 Strip Mine 5 Island 1 Mountain 1 Plains 1 Sol Ring 1 LoA
I need this deck ready to rock for saturday.
The metagame is: 50% Aggro 33.3% Control 16.6% Other (Prison, Combo, Jank, etc.)
The aggro I expect are: Mask, FeB, Sligh, and Sui The control will be: GAT, Combo Keeper, and Hulk The combo/prison will be: Stax and Dragon
The SB I came up with was
4 REB 1 Dismantling Blow 1 Disenchant 2 Rack and Ruin 1 Fact or Fiction 1 Boomerang 1 Swords to Plowshares 1 Fire/Ice 3 Stifle
Notice it is completely wishable, a good thing.
Basically I want you guys to help decide whats the keep and whats the kick.

Eternal Formats / Creative / U/R Landstill or U/W? Need Input to have it for sat.

Forgot all about Disk working under Blood Moon, thanks a lot. What about Slice and Dice? I see that warranting maybe 1-2 MD slots. It cycles to kill what Fire/Ice would, except u get to draw off it like Ice would. It's basically uncounterable, and the 4 Damage beats everything I need to. Small Dryads, Makes Tog discard to live, Juggs, Su-Chi, Negator, Shade, Karn, etc.
Edit: Looks like U/R it is! Now let us prepare it for my meta.

U/W or U/R for my meta? You help aid my decision please!
Heres Shockwaves U/R: // Mana Sources 4 Island 4 Volcanic Island 4 Faerie Conclave 4 Wasteland 4 Mishra's Factory 1 Wooded Foothills 1 Flooded Strand 1 Mountain 1 Strip Mine 1 Library of Alexandria 1 Black Lotus 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Lotus Petal
// Card Drawing and Utility 4 Standstill 1 Ancestral Recall 1 Time Walk
// Removal 4 Lightning Bolt 4 Fire/Ice 4 Nevinyrral's Disk
// Permission 4 Mana Drain 4 Force of Will 3 Misdirection 3 Stifle
// Sideboard 4 Red Elemental Blast 4 Chalice of the Void 4 Tormod's Crypt 3 Maze of Ith
Here is Keith Johnson's U/W: 1 Ancestral Recall 1 Time Walk 2 Decree of Justice 4 Nevinyrral's Disk 4 Swords to Plowshares 4 Standstill 3 Stifle 3 Mana Leak 3 Misdirection 4 Mana Drain 4 Force of Will
1 Mox Pearl 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Black Lotus 2 Flooded Strand 1 Plains 2 Islands 4 Tundra 4 Mishra's Factory 4 Faerie Conclave 1 Library of Alexandria 1 Strip Mine 4 Wasteland 1 Petrified Field
SB: 3 Blue Elemental Blast 3 Tormod's Crypt 3 Disenchant 3 Energy Flux 3 Chalice of the Void
The decks I know of attending the tourney are: A Workshop variant, 2 Hulks, Masknaught, 2 Sui Black, a Survival Mask, an Oshawa, Dragon, Sligh, and maybe a keeper.
Is W or R better for this meta. I'm leaning towards W but only because of the ability to decree and because of the 12/12s. I also sort of iffy on drawing one of the Nevyns when I need it, I have aweful luck.
There won't be much combo, I expect more control and aggro. So i need an anti-control and aggro MD, with anti brown and anti combo SB.\
Please don't regard this as spam my intentions are to win my tourney this weekend, not cause a flame war.
Thanks a bunch.

Name: Andrew Oliva Age: 16 Occupation: Poor student who is picky on jobs. Location: Norton, MA (Southeastern MA for all of you who don't know) Typical decks: Any form of control with blue as the base color I've been playing since 1999, where I bought a 5th starter and some Urza's Legacy Packs. My first deck was Lifeline + Ghitu Slinger, which is where I got the nickname Echo Boy. It was used in the sentence by a random at my store: "Hey, it's that Echo Kid!" but eventually it was changed to Echo Boy and it stuck. I havn't actually been playing competitively long, but I have been playing half of magic's life. Just recently have I decided to pursue T1 and finally make a name for myself. I'm in 10th grade, and have no job. I trade for/buy with birthday money etc. for all my cards. I have about 15 duals, 4 Mana Drains, all the staple easy to get stuff like FoW and Blood Moon, and a Library of Alexandria I recently picked up uber cheap and uber mint. Basically all I really want to do is hang with all the big names from TMD and see my name on a tourney report some day. AIM: XxEchoBoyxX E-Mail: XxEchoBoyxX@aol.comI'm a member of the not even close to known Team Budget. We have about 5 members that actually play T1, check my signature for the website. We recently have moved away from budget however, I acquired my Drains and LoA, our Sligh player got the full power and now plays Survival Mask, and our ancient tomb tnt player recently got bazaars and is pursuing oshawa/gprish builds. I like to help people make decks so feel free to IM me and I'll help you out. I havn't been on this website very long (About a year and a half) but I can assure you I know enough about the meta to help you out. If only I could stop playing in 5 proxies and finally get some power.... ::ponder::

Eternal Formats / Creative / G/r 10....16 land stompy

I started my friend off with G/R Zoo and he went on from there to play TnT, and later on Oshawa.
It's a very good newb/beginner/budget deck. Fairly cheap and fairly good. Before I go into the deck, you might want to try a Goblins variant (Food Chain, or Lackey Sligh), Ankh Sligh (which would be VERY good in your meta), or 10 land variants (which arn't so good). So despite me recommending that Ankh Sligh is the better choice, here is what I'd run.
// Lands 4 Taiga 4 Wooded Foothills 3 Wasteland 1 Strip Mine 2 Mountain 7 Forest
// Creatures 4 River Boa 4 Skyshroud Elite 4 Kird Ape 4 Gorilla Shaman 4 Blurred Mongoose (Tech versus all sorts of control) 4 Elvish Spirit Guides
// Spells 3 Naturalize 4 Lightning Bolt 4 Chain Lightning 4 Blood Moon (will rape all the keeper you see, and pretty much does nothing to you)
// Sideboard 3 Scald/Boil 4 Null Rod 4 Hidden Gibbons 3 Hidden Guerillas 1 Wasteland
I Feel this deck plays better as a creature deck with burn backup, not a pumping deck so ppl can swords and you lose 2:1. I don't run PoP because I feel shutting down the deck early game so you can win with a blood moon is stronger than dealing 10 damage late game. You can run them SB if you still want. But it will kill every deck you named besides the Ankh Sligh.

Eternal Formats / Creative / Skullclamp in Fish?
|
on: January 28, 2004, 11:28:54 am

What are most of the "fish" in u/r? 1/1? What does skullclamp do? -1 toughness? Will that kill all the guys? Yep.
Verdict: Use Mask of Memory, if you're going to use an equipment at all. I played fish for awhile, all the variants, everything. U/R is the best, and it needs no extra drawing than it already has.

Eternal Formats / Creative / Retract, is it broken?

Again, I also stand behind the fact that Hurkyl's Recall is just better. With all that moxen you're bound to have the extra colorless, and as stated before, it only takes 9 spells to win, instead of like 20.

Eternal Formats / Creative / Help With PT Funk.

If you don't like the trolls thats fine. It's your loss. They're in Oshawa for a reason. Anyways, Mishra's will not die to a deed unless a. You're a dumbass or b. it's your OPPONENTS deed, which you cannot stop unless you duressed it. Cabal Therapy IS misdirectable, but it will take 0 cards instead of 2, unlike Hymn.
--Nantuko Shade can be deeded, thats not good. I'd run negators before shades.
--That many fetches is pretty bad, I only gave an example of what i won with, tune it to your own liking, there was no stifles that day so i went nutty.
--Cabal Therapy is 1 less mana and can be flashed back by saccing a guy you cannot regen if you're going to deed that turn.
--Hippie is good, but in my meta he wasn't. My meta is largely aggro because of the high amount of control we had aggro ran everywhere to run it over. I'm in Sligh/Oshawa/Sui Hell.
What I'm saying is only out of my personal experience, i know Hippy and Hymn are very good cards. But I prefer the other ones. Just do what you like better.
Edit: Shade is fine, I didn't run them due to low permanent black sources

Eternal Formats / Creative / Help With PT Funk.
|
on: January 26, 2004, 04:11:18 pm

Good afternoon, I recently piloted a PT Funk deck to a near win at my stores weekly 100$ tournament. I know a lot about PT Funk and I'm sure I can help you. I've loved Pernicious Deed ever since the kid who won at my store everyweek played sligh. I figured "Hey, this rapes aggro, lets give it a whirl" I ended up winning for the first time. Now heres the advice I got. A. Phyrexian Negator, although very good versus control, should be in the sideboard unless you are running a lock method, such as Nether Void or Chalice. He has a low cc and will get deeded often, and since your deck is geared to beat aggro, you must be in an aggro metagame. Bad Karma. B. Spiritmonger is on of the biggest drain targets I know of, plus hes stopped by recurring blockers, other regenerators, Maze, and a plethera of other cards. He's highly sub-optimal, read on for what you will replace him with. C. Hypnotic has no place in T1 anymore, he is slow, and decks are faster than ever. Please remove him, He beats control, yes, but you do that anyways D. Hymns are misdirectable. In a deck with no counterspells and low hand disruption, thats also Bad Karma. E. Mind Twist is not that great without Mana Drains. It's usually and overcosted Hymn, just stay away from it. No, Lotus WON'T help you. F. Edicts when you already run 4 Deed? Aiiee!!!!1!!one!! Heres what I piloted to my near win: 4 River Boa 4 TROLL ASCETIC (Read below for details) 2 Masticore 4 Pernicious Deed 4 Duress 4 Cabal Therapy 1 Regrowth 1 Yawgmoth's Will 1 Necropotence 1 Demonic Tutor 1 Vampiric Tutor 1 Demonic Consultation 4 Dark Ritual 1 Black Lotus 3 Polluted Delta 3 Windswept Heath (also explained below) 1 Lotus Petal 4 Bayou 4 Wasteland 1 Strip Mine 1 Mox Emerald 4 Mishra's Factory 4 Swamp 2 Forest Troll Ascetic: What? He regenerates, can't be swordsed or fired, AND deals 3 damage? I'm sold. Con: double green Windswept Heath: Read above, note the double green quote. Problem solved . I realize there is a lot of nonbasics, Blood Moon will hurt. You also have 8 Hand Rape spells, plenty of basics, and good ol artifacts. Don't forget the Deeds! Your sideboard will vary depending on your metagame. For a mixed Metagame I'd recommend something like this 4 Phyrexian Negator 3 Withered Wretch 4 Coffin Purge 2 Null Rod 2 Naturalize I hope you enjoy your new deck. PM me if you have any other problems. Remember kiddos, It IS fun watching your opponent squirm when they realize they can't stop you. Good night!
