10  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] 5c Empire Stax on: February 20, 2010, 12:50:28 pm
Oh i agree with the cap it was more of a meta call like i said too.

the bridge is a 1 of and is amazing i really sugest you try it. when a tinker or a dredge deck is going off u have another option to get to hold back until you can lock out or regain control.
11  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] 5c Empire Stax on: February 19, 2010, 11:37:19 am
@madman
Mana crypt after alot of testing i ended up cutting it due to it being more of a liability durring building my hard lock. Yes its an amazing card and if it were in id sway more towards an aggro shop build.

Thirst is just to costly with 9 sphere effects I tryed to keep my cap on non art spells at 2 (with the exception of tinker of course) and there is only a handfull of non art spells

Crop is just amazing it fetches up those 1 of lands that let me make more diverse plays. it also helps with a bit of fixing if i run into a spot where i have to hardcast something now or a 2 for 1 if they go for a waste or a stirp to crop that land in response.

Relying on tutors is what alot of vintage is about tez the deck oath all use and abuse tutors. this build is alot more consistant on the drawl than you would  think.

@ Jovialevil
more times than not the single sham works quite well the only time the moxen and other arts make a big play is on turn 1 after that i tend to have some kind of soft lock hitting making them less of a threat. I am leaning the way of possibly getting Karn or a 2nd monkey in because yea that is huge. The bridge however is something I dont think should be moved from the main board its an answer to pretty much the meta weather it be tinker or oath or even an annoying goyf.  I think it would be more likely id move out the solo STP for it if i made that swap.

Ive been testing it and my 5c stax and its working well. What is your reasoning for saying it wont work well in 5c? More cases than not they can remove the thorns and place this in it and hey look now your on a clock.

My version is a bit different than most but I like it in the build.

oh no I agree meant seeing it played against a stax deck its not too bad since they still die to stax.

they still die to stax *nod*
17  Eternal Formats / Workshop-Based Prison / Re: Getting roundhoused kicked by a Tyrannosaurus Rex aka the BR Stax primer on: January 19, 2010, 01:04:00 am
I noticed recently that one of Vroman's B/R builds ran several copies of Jester's Cap in the board.  Are other Stax players finding this to be an effective board option against Oath?

This card is house against almost any deck the only matchup i find myself not bringing it in against is Fish. Combo ripping tendrils seems ok, Stax ripping out your opponets welders seems ok, tez rip out vault tez and inkwell beat me with bobs i dare u, Oath ripping the creatures seems fine to me and 2ndary win condition.

anyway you get the point on that one its more of what version of stax you run having cap as a board card and what your weaker against.

I personally like it and Ensnaring Bridge both in board because with the brokeness of Bazaar and using crop rotation to get said Bazaar it really just bangs your hand down and wins.
18  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: [New Card Discussion] Lodestone Golem on: January 19, 2010, 12:49:22 am
I just simply love the Jug~O~Sphere

Agro shop and stax just both put get a nice soft lock + clock card in this guy.

21  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Premium Article] 5c Stax in Action on: August 04, 2009, 06:32:37 pm
Because they shouldn't even have islands for Inkwell to walk through if you have Titan out, at which point shroud is irrelevant too.

well not really shroud is still relevant based on the low cost spells that pop him to hand (granted both are a semi easy cost for stax at that point)

22  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Arcane Denial post Thirst's restriction on: August 04, 2009, 06:29:17 pm
that came out wrong when i was saying it. 2 cards for 3 is a 1 gain yes seems ok but you get the same gain out of nights whispers (said earlyer) and its a dead card based on you really dont want to counter someone elses spell with it and give them the CA. your basicly looking at it as a combo card that your putting your own mana down for i just think it seems like a worse idea than just running another drawl agent.
23  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Arcane Denial post Thirst's restriction on: August 04, 2009, 04:19:14 pm
ive used this Arcane Denial trick in a form of fish when it comes right down to it there is plenty of other ways to drawl. your opponet is less willing to counter arcane when its shot at them due to the fact they do like the fact of drawling cards and its a great pitch card to FoW but comming back down to the reality its more of a dead card when holding it since CA is so imporant and ditching 2 cards for 3 cards is almost a waste and its wraping up your mana on turn as opposed to most draw agents that are EoT effects and/or creature attack/upkeep effects. Dont get me wrong I love arcaine it just dosnt have a place at this point in time.
24  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Premium Article] 5c Stax in Action on: August 04, 2009, 04:14:44 pm
ive been messing around with a 5c stax build and i have 1 question based on these current builds that are listed with the unrestriction of enlightend tutor and crop rotation why are they not more than 1 ofs if not seen at all on most lists?

i do like the use of the 7/10 but also has me questioning why not more use of inkwell? with the use of City and gemstone there is enough blue sources. granted the 7/10 comming in and out off welder tends to be more demolishing but if its the kill factor isnt it a player looking at something that is hard to be rid of esp if you have a welder on board only leaving a few choices to be rid of inkwell.
25  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Premium Article] So Many Insane Plays: Vintage On a Budget -- GW Beatdown! on: August 04, 2009, 02:36:16 pm
honestly dredge is low t3 in my mind and it really shouldnt see as much play as it does i think the answer for this is that its a cheaper deck to build that is still effective.

Tournament results don't back up that statement.

In large tournys they do and as well as on most lists of t1-3 as on the vintage boards here too its

t1
tez
stax

top t2/bottom t1
fish
tps
g/w beats
g/r beats

t3
dredge
oath
painters
goblins
ad nauseam

tourny results of what a field of 20 or would you like to bring up larger standings?

dredge yes it has a good game 1 and gets in there most of the time. However game 2 and 3 you swing to maybe a 15% win chance just based on pure board hate as stated before. im not knocking the deck or the players who play it. im just saying that its not t1 or t2 and tournys do reflect that. TPS and fish rarly loose to it and stax and tez usualy do not eather. thats why its t3.
26  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Premium Article] So Many Insane Plays: Vintage On a Budget -- GW Beatdown! on: August 03, 2009, 12:14:53 pm
g/w answers are pretty cut and dry wheel, crypt, relic, grunt, also lets not forget here all you have to do is get a creature into your grave sacking a pridemage to pop one of your own arts is never a bad idea. your also usualy putting them on a quick dredge clock if you have the waste/strip early for the bazaar possibly crop rotation is a good answer for this to get it out faster. pithing needle does help as well. honestly dredge is low t3 in my mind and it really shouldnt see as much play as it does i think the answer for this is that its a cheaper deck to build that is still effective.
27  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Fish, What Fish? on: August 03, 2009, 12:10:22 pm
ok a few things here.

crop rotation - good yes however not good enough to fix a land base to get 4-5 colors in and by far not good enough to drop wastelands for. If your planning on running crucible/waste/strip lock i can see crop rotation being all the better and even if your considering running a turblance or maze of ith board it may not be bad a 2ndary way of dealing with mirror and some other good creatures except inkwell that is the biggest problem.

b-wu fish has plenty of ways to deal with creatures besides plow. non target you have diabolic edict and chaniners edict and terrif (sp on them) target basses you have plow because running path while good it dosnt fit your disruption base if your stiffling land and or wasting/stripping why give them a land? and there is always excommunicate and a few other dumb things depending on your match up plays if you can get away putting it on the bottom or top of a lib. Do i personaly think B-wu is bettering than Bug or g- wu no i dont but thats just because i think the green is to important in tarmogoyf and predator

Stifle - IS AMAZING needs no more fill in the blanks

3 null rod 3 daze is fine finding yourself drawling a daze later in the game isnt as good and 3 null rod is usualy plenty in any build.

drawling cards - as i stated earlyer i think LoA needs to be used more than the 4th wasteland to give us more card advantage my deck is a total meta hate deck and i do very well with it and i do not run selkie bob or ninja anymore. my only real drawl power is sitting in Acall Bstorm and LoA and i X-0 more times than not
28  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [Results] Vintage Side Event at U.S. Nationals 7/26/09 on: July 28, 2009, 12:39:14 am
was a fun event LSV i was the G - Wu fish player who prob annoyed you sat lol.

You played that tez deck very well as to where my fish will usualy stomp though them (tho i did make a play error in both matches on sat and sunday lol) anyway congratz on your split/win hope to see you at some future events.
29  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Cold Fish Advice on: July 24, 2009, 10:48:28 am
I understand what each card does, but I think that the 4 spots dedicated to Noble Heirarch could be spent on better cards.

As I've said before, If you want to cut heirarch you HAVE to add at least 2 more lands or other mana sources.  You can't play fish with 16 lands + 3 mox + lotus.  Its just not enought support.  There's "Understanding what -each- card does" and then there's Understanding the deck as a whole.  While I can't contest the former, I think suggesting cutting Heirarch supports that you don't really have a good grasp on the later.

For those really interested in the deck I would suggest this thread:
http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=37264.0

Its a REALLY long read.  But if you want to skip over the history of the deck, you can probably get through page 1 then jumpt to page 4.  It covers many of the same concerns that are being brought up here.

You are very wrong on this post fish does not get land screwed most fish land base consist of such
3 pitch
2 pitch
3 dual
3 dual
3-4 waste 3 in my case
1 strip
1 island
and in my case 1 LoA

Fish does not need 5 mana to be effective 2 mana and your good all day. Ive tested this deck and know first hand i didnt have a game all day when i drew even a late noble that i said man i wish you were a land.
30  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Cold Fish Advice on: July 24, 2009, 10:43:02 am
Im a Noble Fish player myself and I broke this all down on the other thread in the other forum of vintage section. Ill give cliff notes here however

day 1 -
5-2 (loosing round 7 bc of BULLSHIT standings for 3 min)
day 2 -
5-2 (missed top)

Stax
Serenity - stops em dead great board card also adds that ench spot to the goyf
Pithing needle - Stops soooo much bad stuff welder etc
T preds - nothing more needs to be said
pridemage - good yes but i dont run them i find that its a card you eather run or you dont the noble is plenty
Drains - I run 4 drains in my build as well as more answer
Kataki - your workshop sure cant pay for that can it?

As it comes to the build overall there isnt anything wrong with your pure build. I dont like running the scroll/tutor yeah it helps give you your answers later but i also said that in a well built fish you already should have the answers comming or that when it comes to boarding these start to question you on boarding out.

our worst match up is stax its true the best thing i seen board wise has been kataki needle and serenity and it pretty much stops it dead in its tracks then.

check my other post and youll see more of my breakdown can always pm me and we can speak more 1on1 about it if you like as well
