Alternate Timeline  {R}
Enchantment

Your opponents lose life at the end of each phase or step equal to the amount of mana that was emptied from their mana pool. (Mana that was not used to play spells or abilities.)

Parallel pasts exist to show us a better future

This is in light of the recent rules changes. I wanted a way to preserve the old rules, and the best way to do that is create cards that mimic the effects of old rules under the new system.

2  Archives / Tournament Announcement Forum / Re: Pandemonium Weekly Vintage - June - August 2009, Something New on: June 17, 2009, 01:56:33 pm
This sounds great. I haven't played magic in a long time, but I've still got all of my old cards. Time to break out the dual lands once more! I'll be there tonight if I can.

Edit: I got there around 7:00 and no vintage players where there. Instead, a standard tournament was going on. Did I mess up or has this been canceled?
3  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Boston to Stratfordbury TMD open: Looking for group on: July 29, 2007, 08:20:22 pm
I live in Cambridge too, although I haven't played Type 1 in several years. I still have all of my cards.
4  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Selling cards to an online site on: July 06, 2007, 02:12:54 am
Hey everyone, I'm thinking of selling cards to an online site like Starcity or others (am I allowed to mention their names?) to get some quick cash. They're mostly foil cards that are hard to move. Has anyone done this before? I recall reading on the old board (The one before there were basic users as a member group) that someone had a bad experience doing this but my recollection is foggy.

I'm extremely wary of sites that only buy cards in NM and Played conditions. Am I right in thinking that they would probably wait until you shipped the cards and then claim they weren't in the condition described to cheat you out of money?

Thanks.

Am I missing something? This plus Bitter Ordeal is game over.
6  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Neo-Cube on: July 01, 2007, 09:37:18 pm
It doesn't work.  That's like saying, "Enchantment is now considered a color."

Why doesn't it work? Colors don't have any rules baggage.
7  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Neo-Cube on: June 25, 2007, 05:53:59 pm
Neo-Cube 1
Artifact

The type "artifact" is now also considered a color.

It is everything and nothing

Now you can play Wash Out and name artifact Very Happy I think this would be kind of nifty.

8  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / FNM Experience on: February 24, 2007, 01:34:17 pm
Quote
know I probably shouldn't be complaining, but today was the first time I had a Level 2 or higher judge do something they weren't supposed to. I had a Ghost Quarter in play, and I sacrificed it targeting my opponent's Watery Grave. My opponent put it in his graveyard and then picked up his hand as if he was ready for the game to resume. Then the judge blurted out: "Don't you search with Ghost Quarter?". My opponent got a dumb look on his face and said "Oh"...then proceeded to search for a swamp and put it into play. I was shocked. My opponent was able to play his Skeletal Vampire which he wouldn't have been able to do otherwise and I lost the game. Oh well, it is only FNM right? Has anyone ever had a similar experience?

I posted this on the WoTC board and was told that I have to notify my opponent that he "may" search his or her library for a basic land. Is this true? I thought if an opponent didn't  do something that was optional, it meant that he chose not to do it. Can someone clear this up for me? Thanks.
9  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Snowblind on: October 14, 2006, 01:48:34 am
Quote
Snowblind
Card Set:  Ice Age
Casting Cost: 3G
Color: Green
Spell Type: Enchant Creature
Rarity: Rare
Artist: Douglas Shuler

Original Rules Text:
Target creature gets -*/-*. When that creature attacks, * is equal to the number of snow-covered lands defending player controls. At other times, * is equal to the number of snow-covered lands its controller controls. If this reduces the creature's toughness to less than 1, the creature's toughness is 1.

Current Rules Text:
Enchanted creature gets -X/-X. If that creature is attacking, X is the number of snow-covered lands defending player controls. Otherwise, X is the number of snow-covered lands its controller controls. If this would reduce its toughness to less than 1, reduce its toughness to 1 instead.

Can someone please explain to me how this interacts with other cards that subtract toughness?
10  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: CE a good option for a casual player? on: September 11, 2006, 11:26:53 pm
If you can find someone that you can trade with to get CE cards then go for it. I wouldn't spend any money buying them though.
11  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Postapocalyptic on: July 17, 2006, 11:31:02 pm
I was browsing around the internet and I found a site called Postapocalyptic Media.

http://www.pamedia.com/forum/

They have a forum on there where people list all of the guns and equipment  they have stocked up in case there is a fall out. They also talk about there plans to survive. At first I thought it was a joke. Do you know anyone this paranoid? I know there are some strange folks that post around the internet, but this is just crazy! The way everyone talks on there, it sounds like the aftermath will be more dangerous than the potential disaster...!

Always travel with a partner, or partners. Keep to the high country. Don't attract any attention. If facing multiple adversaries, kill or capture the leader. Hunt down-wind (man or animal). Use guerilla tactics against a larger force. Always use the landscape. Attack, attack, attack, defense means death. Be where the enemy isn't, attack where they are less defended. Die rather than surrender. Protect innocents, never use them as pawns, or hold them hostage (I understand Machiovelli's tactics work, but I have to believe in a higher ideal). Believe in liberty. Leave no dead or any trace, the unknown creates greater fear, greater insecurity, and greater mistakes. Work on the enemies spirit and confidence. Logistics is the key to any endeavor. When using ambush tactics, psyc-ops, or harrassment loud noise will incite panic. Allow them no rest. Attack in intervals with various groups, wear them down and their spirit suffers. Remember Waco? (If that's a sore spot...sorry, just an example) ATF used loud music and bright lights, you too can be creative here.

2 assault rifles .223 cal, 1 .12 gauge shotgun, 1 lever action 44, 2 .357 revolvers (can shoot .3, 1 9mm auto, and several 9mm short autos, plus the usual collection of .22’s.

I would carry them in my house with as much ammo as I can store. I don’t plan to leave my home in the event of a catastrophe and having a wide variety of calibers will always ensure that I am able to find ammo for one of the weapons.

If I did have to hit the road and could not take my over sized SUV then I would take the 2 assault rifles with 5 30 round clips each, the 9mm and the two 357 revolvers. The rest I would bury.
12  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Gencon Mox Pearl Art on: July 04, 2006, 04:50:57 am
I also agree... That mox pearl art is hideous. It looks more like a [card]Jeweled Amulet[/card] than a mox.
13  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: Should Moonfolk be banned in MANA STORM? You decide... on: June 16, 2006, 10:40:44 pm
All of the problem cards are blue. Why not just ban the entire color?
14  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Confused by Black Lotus Art? on: June 11, 2006, 12:08:27 am
It looks like a lily pad to me with the lotus on top.
15  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Spinning Darkness Question on: May 18, 2006, 07:32:05 am
I've noticed that some players are very sloppy with their graveyards and they get the order mixed up all the time. Usually I don't care, but should I be calling a judge over?
16  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Vintage in Boston? on: May 17, 2006, 02:19:21 am
One of the few Vintage tournaments I ever attended was at YMG Somerville. It was awful....don't go there!
17  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Dearest Vintage Community (A letter) on: May 04, 2006, 03:44:44 am
Damn!...now I have to remove the quote that I attributed to you in my sig. Thanks for nothing...
18  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Drudge Skeleton on: May 01, 2006, 09:27:32 pm
Does this mean if you try to pay 1R for the misprinted orcish artillery from Alpha that you will be DQed?
19  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Time Vault on: May 01, 2006, 07:56:53 pm
Does the [card]Time Vault[/card], [card]Mizzium Transreliquat[/card], and [card]Time Bomb[/card] combo still work with the errata to get infinite turns?
20  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Can anyone make this work for me? on: April 18, 2006, 12:21:44 pm
I really like this idea, but I can't get it to work Sad I think it would be really cool, especially in draft.

Cinder-Tail R/B
Creature - Snake

As an additional cost to play Cinder-tail, discard a burn spell.

3/1

21  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: hasran ogress - not all that bad? on: March 19, 2006, 05:37:38 pm
there's a very obvious reason this is in the casual forum. the other day, just for fun, i put together a deck with black cards i almost never use. it included erg raiders, fear, seizures, paralyze and songs of the damned. it was made specifically to play against other creature-based decks, obviously. the one thing i found, to my surprise, is that hasran ogress is not that bad. for those of you who forget what she is:

Hasran Ogress - 3/2
Summon Ogre - BB
If you declare Hasran Ogress as an attacker, pay 2 or Hasran Ogress deals 3 damage to you.

With the recent expansions, we've all had to deal with casting creatures that sound great but have drawbacks. Even a lot of the better older creatures had disadvantages (djinns and efreets) that damaged the controller. But the Ogress only hurts you if you don't pay her (slut!). In testing and casual play, she turned out to be a champion!

I think we should all dig deep into our boxes of commons and find cards that just aren't as bad as we thought they were. What other creatures are there that members of the forum love but won't tell anyone about because they arent Morphling or Darksteel Colossus?

The Ogress is terrible and should never be used. Nantuko Shade is better in almost every way. If you want a black AN common that's still marginally useful, pick Stone-Throwing Devils or Oubliette.
22  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Entropic Serpent on: January 30, 2006, 10:20:06 pm
Is anyone else worried that this could be an instant kill with Demonic Consulation, Doomsday, and a slew of other cards?
23  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Volcanism on: January 30, 2006, 10:16:24 pm
Volcanism
RR
Sorcery

Destroy target non-Mountain land. Its controller may search his or her library for a Mountain card and put that card into play.  If that player does, he or she then shuffles his or her library.

Radiate would break this new version in half.
24  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: SCG Premium Whining goes here on: January 13, 2006, 09:47:19 am
LOL this thread is titled "SCG Premium Whining goes here"....I would have thought it was perfectly on topic and reasonable place for me to show my personal discontent.  It has nothing to do with the money, more what you actually get for it. I've already seen plenty of places around the internet that offer nominal services and slap a premium tag on it like SCG has. Stuff like a few extra pictures, newsletters,  special section of their forum for a fee, etc... Maybe TMD is next, eh?
25  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: SCG Premium Whining goes here on: January 12, 2006, 04:47:33 pm
The big problem I have with their premium BS is that the internet is already expensive enough. Too many sites these days are adding premium sections...in a few years, people aren't going to be able to read about anything without forking over money.

$30 can get you three full months of web hosting with e-mail accounts, etc.., or a years worth of updates on vbulletin software or updates for your virus software. I think those outclass articles on a card game. It's just not worth it.
26  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Color Changing Bonus on: January 09, 2006, 07:44:18 am
The pump seems a bit too cheap.  I would almost say make the +1/+1 not counters but an until EOT buff instead.

Golgari Guildmage gives counters, and it's only a hybrid card with another useful ability. I think counters are fine. What do you think of the new current version?
27  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Proxies: Yet another re-evaluation of a touchy subject on: January 03, 2006, 12:47:41 pm
I think ten proxies is enough, but maybe some tournaments could offer free proxies as prizes for use in the next tournament much like byes are sometimes given. I don't know, it's just a thought...

I have power and drains myself, and I want to get back into tournaments, but I need at least ten proxies as I am unwilling to buy stuff like Tolarian Academy right now when that money can go toward the new duals in Standard.
28  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: I got serviced by Ebay...help? on: December 30, 2005, 09:40:37 am

Anyways, I saw the picture of your Ancestral on that auction, and it was like looking at my replica.  It's got to be one of those replicas from the guy in California.  To his credit, HE DID NOT sell them as real cards.  He said right out of the box they were fake.  But I can easily see how many would think they were real.  Since it was a good replica.

It doesn't matter whether this person sold them as "real" cards or not. It's still illegal, and he gave people the means to rip other people off. He deserves to burn for that.
29  Vintage Community Discussion / Master List / Re: Card Re-evaluation? on: December 25, 2005, 04:58:00 am
Upinthe, to elaborate on Matt's "So what," remember that those cards that have a penalty involving "target opponent" can't even be played while Crumbling Asylum is in play, since you don't have a legal target.

I'm more concerned about creatures with negative stuff in their triggered abilities, like [card]Descendant of Masumaro[/card]
30  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Color Changing Bonus on: December 25, 2005, 04:39:51 am
I stumbled across an old idea I had for a color changing creature. Here it is:

Vibrant Chameleon ???)

Whenever Vibrant Chameleon becomes a new color, put a+1/+1 counter on it.

???: Change Vibrant Chameleon's color to another color of your choice.

I'm not sure what the costs on something like this should be though. Can anyone help?

Current:

Vibrant Chameleon (1UG)

Whenever Vibrant Chameleon becomes a new color, put a+1/+1 counter on it.

4: Change Vibrant Chameleon's color to another color of your choice.

2/3
