If it wasn't for Jeremy Zwirn, I wouldn't have noticed my second place finish. Too bad that retard ended up not playing in the Legacy World Championships...

And i'll cherish my new title as well...

3  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [Results] Monster Den, Lotus, 7-15-06 results on: July 17, 2006, 02:58:56 pm
The tournament ended up being a great success with more people showing up than at star city Charlotte. Its rather funny to walk into a tourney though and realize that SS seems to be everywhere, but that seems to be the case at a lot of places recently. Four members of ICBM decided to run the SS at this event and 3 of us took the deck into the top 8 which once again just showed how strong the deck truly is.

I was 4-1-1 on the day going into top 8 and then lost to the b/w/r mask naught played by sue. My only loss in the swiss was to my friend Chris in the SS mirror. and the one draw i had was because i was 4 dmg short of finishing off Jake (who split for first) on turn 5.

The tournament was a lot of fun and was relatively well run except for one thing. This tournament may have had the worst prize support of any tourney Ive ever seen. 5-8 only got 10 dollars in store credit, 3rd only got $25, I'm not sure what 4th got, and second got $100. Which if you look there was 57 people playing multiplied by the $20 is cost each person to get in that equals $1140. assuming that the lotus which was nice is worth $700 tops and the other prizes that were given away comes to a total of $890 this is assuming that 4th also got $25. So looking at the fact that the store I'm sure didn't pay anywhere near $700 for the lotus they still pocketed $250 of pear profit which i think would have better spent on prizes. I know most people walked out of there very disgusted with the $10 they won in a tourney that cost them $20 to enter.

Xue walked out with $25 as well... I'm glad all you guys came up to play. Hopefully we'll be able to make it out to more WI Vintage tournaments as well.

Congradulations to Jake and I@n for the split. Also props to you Jeff for staying to collect the data. Xue by far had the craziest deck choice and no one really expected such a "janky" deck to do so well.

6  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: A topic of discussion: Scoop now, or no? on: March 22, 2006, 12:41:49 pm
I was actually in this situation a few weeks back except I was on the other end. We were playing a T1T mirror and my opponent casted AK for one and at his end step I casted Intuition for triple AK. During my turn he Forced my AK for 4 and then during his turn I Drained his AK for 5. I then drew my last AK and casted AK for 6 and my opponent then scooped.

Acouple things struck me about this. First of all he won game 1 and there was about 10 minutes left in the round and with playing a control mirror, I was almost assured that we'd end up taking a draw. (I actually ended up losing to Tinker-Colossus with FOW backup) When he annonuced that he scooped I looked at my top 4 cards and 3 of them were mana sources(2 land and 1 mox) and the 4th was a Mystical Tutor. I know I had two more cards to draw but just the first 4 didn't seem like enough for me to win that turn.

I feel you should have just played the situation out. Worst case scenario would have been he ends up beating you and you have to go to a game 3 with a high possibility of a draw. By scooping you ensured your opponent that he had a chance to win the match as well.

Congrads Jeff on Sunday. I on the other hand made a terrible play mistake to Pat playing Landstill W/U which cost me that game and which led me into a 1-1-1 draw against Gifts and then I had to play against Jendro in round 5 (I HATE UBA STAX). The Oath that made it into Top 8 was the version with Black in it.

See you next month at Dreamers

I haven't been piloting Vengeance but I've been running all manner of deck into Landstill and I have to say that I fear Vengeance way more than Disk, because I can fight disk with Disenchants and Pithing Needles and so on. Vengeance can only be countered (or possibly LD can keep them off double-white).

If the {W}{W} doesn't faze you, my opinion as a dedicated Landstill opponent is that Vengeance > Disk.

Also: No, not Doomsday.

If you're running Wrath of God in Landstill, the double white shouldn't be a problem. My thing was just that everytime I played with Vengeance I ended up cycling it more times than actually playing the card.

I don't even know, there's like six decks I'm considering, and trying new ones out all the time. Here's a hint though: it won't be base-white or base-red.
How very rogue of you Matt. Wink

@ Landstill players: have you tried the versions with Akroma's Vengeance?

I've play tested Vengeance several times and in tournaments I've only hardcasted Vengeance only twice. Vengeance to me just seems like an expensive way to draw another card. Nev's Disk just works better for me.

I'm actually suppose to be on my way from Minnesota to GenCon right now as i'm typing this but due to family situations I was unable to attend at the last minute. I would have been playing UWR Landstill for the Legacy Championships tommorrow.

I guess there's always next year

18  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Illusions of Grandeur VS The Stack on: March 24, 2005, 12:00:49 pm
I was recently watching a Legacy match and one player was playing Trix while the other player was playing Angel Stompy.

The Trix player casted Illusions and the Stompy player said it was good, but then he annonced that he was going to put the "when Illusions of Grandeur comes into play gain 20 life" on the stack and he claimed that before that resolves he disenchanted the Illusions. The Stompy player claims that since the life gain never happened and the Illusions was destroyed the Trix player loses the 20 life before the gain life ability resolves.

No judge was on hand because this was a casual game.

What exactly were you Misdirecting all day?  I mean there aren't that many good misdirectable spells anymore....

I hear Ancestral Recall is a pretty good card...

EDIT: Sure... I guess you can Misdirect a FOW to counter itself as well...

Congrads to Nate for winning. That bird poop deck seemed to answer all the time when he needed it. *cough* like in round 1 *cough*

And I'm sure we'll see more people next month because 1st will take home a Recall.

Congrads on your recent success with Salvagers... The field on Sunday didn't have a lot of control and I was pretty surprised that Control Slaver didn't do so well (except Corey) I was playing 5/3 and after round 5 I went 3-2 and when I realized that everyone drew into the top 8 I left because the weather was getting bad...

Congrads on the top 8. I was the only Oath player there to my knowledge and played retarded towards the end (2-0-1 then lost the next two because I didn't draw one land vs I@n and i lost to landstill... yes I said Landstill BOO for me)

It's nice to see some one play a deck that's different from the rest of the field. I play Salvagers in 1.5 with LED's and I never really figured that it could do well in vintage but you proved me wrong. I guess I'll have to take another look at Salvagers in Type 1.

I'd suggest you also cut the Wonder count down from 3 to either 2 or 1. Also I know you're trying to go the budget route but try to play with 4 Tropical Islands and 4 U/Fetchlands.

And another note: Fireblast and Jackal Pup don't see much play in Type 1 so you can cut that Misdirection count down as well.
