1  Eternal Formats / Creative / Is Dragon still playable? on: June 07, 2007, 01:25:04 am
Is it still possible that a Dragon deck can hold up in T1?

I mean Bazaar isn't restricted or anything, and neither are the animates, so is it possible?

IMO, competitive Dragon cannot be run without these requirements:
1) At least 7 disruption
2) Alternate win condition
3) Being able to afford Squees. Proxy a few things too like Lotus, Jet, etc.

This build here just won top 8 at the SCG Chicago:
Seems ok. I don't think it runs enough animate spells. This doesn't seem too good of a version but hey it made top 8 so I may be wrong.

I saw the last post in this forum about Dragon was about 1 year ago so I thought I would dust off an old chestnut.
With over 400 new cards now, we must look at the Worldgorger Dragon deck and see what can be done about it. What should be dropped? Should it still be BU or BUG? We'll find out.

First off raises the question of the colors that run in it. Should we run BU or BUG? I believe this is one of the most important aspects. In my opinion Xantid Swarm CAN used to be a replacement for FoW but only for budget decks. I'd rather run FoW any day. Especially since we KNOW blue will be run, and green is iffy. Then again though, what should the minimum amount of cards be run for FoW? At least 15 I believe. Out of a 60 card deck you should have 1-2 blue cards on the opening draw on average, so I believe that is plenty for FoW.

Dragon is my favorite deck but I'm not an experienced T1 player. Perhaps other experienced players would like to contribute to this?

Moved because of the content, or lack thereof. Include more information than your decklist. Give some background information regarding card choices, etc. Decklist-only posts are frowned upon. -jeek

I am really trying to tweak this into the perfect deck. I've been testing it for about a week and everyone is telling me different things. I am not able to go UB because I have no money for FoW and Intuition and Seas. I am trying to get by with this for a 10 proxy T1 tourney in a few weeks. What can I change in this deck to make it a stronger build? It's only winning like 35% of games. It usually doesn't have enough juice to stop all the destruction.

// NAME: Black Dragon

// Lands
    2  Ancient Tomb
    12  Swamp
    4  Bazaar of Baghdad

// Creatures
    2  Verdant Force
    2  Squee, Goblin Nabob
    1  Ambassador Laquatus
    4  Worldgorger Dragon

// Spells
    1  Mox Jet
    1  Black Lotus
    4  Dark Ritual
    1  Mana Crypt
    1  Sol Ring
    1  Vampiric Tutor
    1  Demonic Tutor
    3  Spoils of the Vault
    4  Unmask
    4  Duress
    1  Entomb
    3  Buried Alive
    3  Necromancy
    2  Animate Dead
    3  Dance of the Dead

// Sideboard
SB: 3  Reanimate
SB: 1  Verdant Force
SB: 4  Powder Keg
SB: 3  Tormod's Crypt
SB: 4  Chalice of the Void

That's the decklist. It's quite similar to the one of the Dragon primer, but I made a few changes, as I felt that was a little outdated. The Unmasks in there seem to be doing ok, I should get Demonic Consultation somewhere in there too. Maybe -1 Spoils +1 D-Consul? Let me know if there are any other changes you can help me out with. Thanks in advance.

Then I'll just go mono-black.
8  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Dragon's Sideboard on: June 21, 2005, 09:15:51 pm
When playing Dragon over these past few weeks, I feel the sideboard isn't good enough. I'm only using the Chalices and nothing else really. What can we do for the SB here? Also, any major MB changes you see?

// Lands
    1  Swamp
    1  Gemstone Mine
    1  Tropical Island
    2  Bayou
    4  Polluted Delta
    4  Underground Sea
    4  Bazaar of Baghdad

// Creatures
    4  Squee, Goblin Nabob
    1  Ambassador Laquatus
    4  Worldgorger Dragon

// Spells
    1  Mana Crypt
    1  Sol Ring
    1  Mox Emerald
    1  Mox Ruby
    1  Mox Sapphire
    1  Mox Pearl
    1  Mox Jet
    1  Black Lotus
    1  Vampiric Tutor
    1  Demonic Tutor
    1  Time Walk
    1  Ancestral Recall
    3  Duress
    4  Force of Will
    3  Compulsion
    3  Necromancy
    2  Dance of the Dead
    3  Animate Dead
    4  Buried Alive

// Sideboard
SB: 4  Chalice of the Void
SB: 3  Verdant Force - Don't use
SB: 4  Pernicious Deed - Too slow
SB: 4  Xantid Swarm - I usually have FoW

This is just like the TMD version, except I'm running Buried Alive over Intuition, because Intuition ends up with me having Laquatus in hand (Did I play it wrong or something? Why would Intuition be over Buried Alive?) Any help appreciated
9  Eternal Formats / Creative / 10 Proxy, Trying to Slim Down 4K Solution to 100 on: June 11, 2005, 01:15:15 am
I have this 10 proxy tournament in my area. I was looking for a way to slightly tweak http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/expandnews.php?Article=5273 into a $100 deck. I was planning on proxying 4 Workshop and then 6 power, but I'd need to cut a few other cards. What to do?
