1  Archives / Tournament Announcement Forum / Re: Weekly 10 proxy T1 tournaments on: February 02, 2006, 10:48:47 pm
Area 51 in Cortland, NY will be holding T1 tounaments every Saturday.
Time: 3pm
Entry: $5

Proxies can be written on basic land or you may use printed out versions if the paper is very thin.  If you have questions about your proxies you may ask the T.O. to check them.  Please put correct name and casting cost and all revelent game text.

Prizes: all money collected will go towards prizes, so the bigger the turnout the better the prize.  Store credit will be awarded to the winner, if we get enough then 2nd and 3rd will also recieve some credit.

The tournaments are very relaxed and everyone that shows usually has a great time.  I should mention the store is kind of small but we can hold up to 20 or so.  So if you are in the central New York area and would like to hit a fun, relaxed tournament feel free to stop in.

If you have any questions or need directions feel free to call the store at (607) 218-0103.

Thanks mr_rogers for posting the Information! I hope to see people at our store for our tournaments.
Area 51 has been open for over 10 years and we have been running weekly Type 1 Tournaments for just about as long.

Our address is
Area 51
118 Main St.
Cortland, NY 13045

You can find more information about our tournaments at http://www.area51cortland.com

Thanks
Joe

Everyone likes to pretend that RJD never sang for Black Sabbath.

I never understood this.  RJD has a really good voice and the were some decent songs written while he was the singer for Sabbath.  The entire Heaven and Hell cd is amazing.

Your just saying that cause RJD is from our home town! Suck Up. Smile

Bloodbath is great death metal by the way.

There is no such thing as good Death Metal.  The singers tend to not be able to sing.  I can grunt and scream out of tune aswell, so maybe I should form a band.

So umm Fantomos? No lyrics, just screaming and wierd noises...

I saw Tomahawk open for Tool, they were terrible.

I heard that people actually left the Syracuse, NY Tomahawk/Tool show because of Patton harrasing Tool fans, because, they were boo'ing Tomahawk.

Which is rightfully deserverd, Mr_Rogers has played Tomahawk for me before... aweful. Smile

Having delt on a professional level with Pete in the past, he purchased our store's entire singles stock about a year ago or so, I fully trust him to do what he says!

I wish Steve good luck in his future endevors and with your family!

Unfortunately I didn't see this until just now and doubly unfortunately, I've got a bad bronchial infection that hit me like a ton of bricks.

Aww, that sucks. I hope you feel better! I've suffered many bronchitis infections and I know how much of a pain they can be.

Concerning price drops accross the board, it will happen for the next tournament, which will be for a Bazaar of Baghdad in the near future.

If anyone does come up from Binghamton the Mana Drain tournament in the morning, let the TO at the counter know, we'll see if we can work somthing out Smile

Honestly, that entry fee is quite high for the prizes offered considering that it's going to be held at a store that doesn't have to pay to hold the event.

Are you expecting to get less than 10 people? Or are you just trying to make a profit from the entry fees?

I'd try to rally the kids down here in Binghamton, but it would be a lost cause since they won't pay $15 for an attempt at just an Italian Drain, especially since I myself don't even want to.

It's not my intent to be insulting or start crap or anything like that, but this guaranteed-prize-to-entry-fee ratio sucks. Good luck with it anyway though, I guess...

This is our first run at a "real" proxy tournament (by real, we're a small store, so anything over the ~$50 in prizes that we give away weekly is big) and we thought that $15 would be a fair price, based on the other tournaments in the area with similar prizes (Looking at Syracuse area mainly, I did not have much data for the Binghamton area) We originally planned for around 10 people, which would support our price/prize structure for the drain plus additional prizes for the 2nd and 3rd.

We've never taken a profit on entrance fees, every tournament we've ever run the entry fee always go back in to the prizes to the tournament. This is true for our vintage events that we've been running for 9 years, our Arena League and our FNMs. We will even be giving away prizes for our upcoming free vintage events, which some of our players are REALLY excited about!

Here's a deal for you, Kl0wn, and only you! (We'll have you log on to TMD from one of our networked computers just so we can prove it's you), I'll pay your entry, including proxies, (Now don't be too harsh Smile) if you "rally kids from binghamton" and a few come up with you, ultimately the prize pool will be higher and I'll get to play some people from out side town instead of beating the scrubs at our store all the time... <J/K> Mr_Rogers a posting member here at TMD and one of the people who play at Area 51 on a regular basis got 173rd (last place) at the recent SSGs Rochester (Happy Birthday Buddy! Don't Kill me, just giving examples Smile). Dana who always plays rogue played the "Dominating Licid-Fish" deck.

I suck too... I got 169th at the recent SSG Rochester, so maybe you'll walk away with a mana drain after all!

I do appreciate your input, I see your point of view and in the future we'll take this in to account when we are promoting our next tournament!

Thanks!

Bumped.

I think the rise of fish (again) is good for several reasons.

The first is off course the new players it will attract to vintage.

Fish has brought back some of our older "budget" players and younger kids to our local scene. The older budget players left because our scene over time forgot what the attack step was, and they couldn't compete any longer with their favorite semi-casual deck. The younger kids could never really top 8 because all they could afford was (bad) goblins, elves or other weenie decks that could never compete in the scene. Fish has leveled the playing field, it can be played unpowered in an powered environment and do well and best of all, it's a very cheap deck. Yesterday afternoon, I helped a younger guy build it, at our local store and I think he may have spent less $30 on it! Best of all he's going to play in our proxy tournament this weekend with it, and he's always refused to play in our tourney's because he thought he couldn't compete!

Hello Everyone! Just introducing myself!

I'm a long time "semi-casual" (Read as: "I suck") Type 1 player. I heard that this IS the T1 BBS and that there is a lot of players from the Upstate/East region hang out here and I wanted to know what the type one meta-game is out side of the store I play at (Ours is very strange it seems from what I am reading so far!) And borrow some tech, so I can actually win a tourny Smile

I work in a gaming shop in Cortland, NY (About A half hour away from both Syracuse and Binghamton, right in the middle) Called Area 51, We've got a Type 1 every Sunday that's been going on for at least 8 years.
