So for the first time in over half a year, I arrive at this site seeing nobody vote for Lady Grey.

What sad days we live in, when mere boardmembers and moderators can vote Earl Grey like an old woman.

Yes, I've never seen an Automaton that had a mind, too. And I've never seen an explosion that wasn't erratic. And I've never seen a Dragon that wasn't from Shiv.

So should the name really change?
4  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Blashyrkh, raven legend on: August 25, 2004, 09:41:35 am
All right, I'll change it to some generic names etc.

And basically, you want to open a legends pack.

What would the money matter? So you can buy food? Just be hungry and open the legends pack...

Call it Blashyrkh, and put it ont the:

Clock?

9  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Psionic Leech on: August 25, 2004, 04:48:22 am
No, it wouldn't. It would just make this some weaker variant of Xanthid Swarm, since, in a way, it prevents countering.

This is trwo colors because that makes it cooler and because that gives it more flavour.

Well, if you reanimate a Worldgorger Dragon, you generally win, but do also need some other cards to go with the trick.

If you reanimate this, you also probably win. And you also need some cards to do the trick (albeit that it needs only be something to draw some other thing with.)

Just give it the "leaves play = shuffle" clause, and leave it at the 1/1 for 3UU.

For who's gonna cast it? I ain't. You reanimate this. This isn't broken, because Worldgorger is probably better. And so in combo's, people will playworldgorger. But in casual play, people will play this, because IT STACKS YOUR DECK! W00T! Let it be, I think.
12  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Hydroelectric Dam on: August 23, 2004, 08:17:43 am
It's been suggested, but dismissed since you could use it as a one-shot colorless weak Dark Ritual, which is too good.

But I don't think it's too strong. And indeed, Dan Dam looks cleaner.

But the entire "condition" thing seemed nice, too.
13  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Blashyrkh, raven legend on: August 23, 2004, 08:14:07 am
I liked Bram's suggestion better...

Or then the first line of the song, replacing blashyrkh with this thing's name-to-be.

Far above the ravengate, with spreaded wings "This Bird" waits.
14  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Hydroelectric Dam on: August 23, 2004, 08:01:34 am
Are you hating on my hydrolysis, boy?

Give the card Islandhome and Mountainhome Smile Then it sucks even worse because it can only attack an opponent that has a mountain and an island when you animate it with Karn...

This made me laugh so hard...I didn't feel like making a new post just for that bit of personal info, so I thought I'd edit it into yours Smile - Bram

Now for real: the keyword needs more strict rules. Condition: Creature. Can it be done? There is no card called creature. But it is a type. Island is a subtype, not a type. So Condition: Island would not be the same as Condition: Creature.

Perhaps use general terms, like on regular cards. Say stuff like "basic land," "Island," "Feral Shadow," "Any creature." Then condition has no rules but that the condition itself has to be well-defined.
15  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Mosquito Familiar on: August 23, 2004, 07:55:33 am
Well, I find the first wording to be better, and it works fine. Oh my, a 0/1 that seems to be somewhat useful...

Immagine the art on this thing Smile
16  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Common artifact not costing 0, charge counters is a plus on: August 23, 2004, 07:51:13 am
Yes, they are.

For three mana and one activation, this still costs four, and then two for every card thereafter. Jalum Tome costs the same, but needs you to discard a card less. On the other hand, it taps. This doesn't. I would tap something for a card...

Shall we then just make this uncommon? Like Geth's Grimoire?
17  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Blashyrkh, raven legend on: August 23, 2004, 07:42:55 am
OK, so I forgot to add flying, which should obviously have been there.

And yes, the name is a song. So y'all want something that's a bit more generic, I think?

Ragas, Stormraven

No, I like the "mighty ravendark" part. What about "something, Mighty Ravendark?" Just give it a bird's name, and it's set.

Tweety, Mighty Ravendark
18  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Battlewood Haven on: August 19, 2004, 06:42:28 pm
And that fallen empires land has savage art.

I like this version, suggested by Laurie:

Battlewood Haven
Land
T: Add GG to your mana pool. Play this ability only if you control a creature.

Can still be abused on turn one with Crookshank Kobolds or Vine Dryad, but hey. Who cares. I thought the sacrifice condition was better, but that was too much akin to Thran Quarry, in my opinion.

For the name: the word 'copse' has never been used, I think. Something like battlewood copse, then? Or can't you call something that? I know "copse of trees."

I'd love to see the legendary raven that is a tribute to Raven Familiar:

Blashyrkh, Mighty Ravendark
4UB
Creature - Bird Legend
2/3
Whippoorwill ( This creature is a Bird but does not fly )
When Blashyrkh comes into play, look at the top six cards of your library. Take two of those cards into your hand and put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.

Just double raven. and 2/3. Should it be 2/4 to really be double raven?

Errol, Dark Raven
4UB
Creature - Bird Legend
2/3
Flying
When Errol, Dark Raven comes into play, look at the top six cards of your library. Put two of those cards into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.
20  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Attendant Spirit on: August 19, 2004, 06:21:56 pm
Errol the Wise
3UU
Creature - Owl Legend
1/2
When Errol the Wise comes into play, look at your library and put it back in any order.
When Errol the Wise leaves play, shuffle your library.

I think you can do this. Why not? It's not because of time restraints, because when you think about it, there's already cards-a-plenty that do this. Like Goblin Recruiter, Proteus Staff and Knowledge Vault* . And you've never heard anybody complain about those, did you?

Make it an Owl Legend as a tribute to Spire Owl and Sage Owl, the latter one of which has Counterspell in the original art, which most of you probably already knew.

This might get used with Bazaar and Animate Death, because then it's good. But so is Bazaar and Dragon.

I'd love to see the legendary raven that is a tribute to Raven Familiar:

Blashyrkh, Mighty Ravendark
4UB
Creature - Bird Legend
2/3
When Blashyrkh comes into play, look at the top six cards of your library. Take two of those cards into your hand and put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.

Let me make a topic about that one....

* No, Knowledge Vault doesn't stack your library, but I had already typed the comma instead of an 'and' so I just faked it. You probably didn't know what it does anyway Wink
21  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Blockade on: August 19, 2004, 05:43:21 pm
Well, I don't think that it really is a blockade anymore, should the Laurie-suggested wording get addopted. And I am fine with that wording, should anybody be concerned. I think that just the drawing ability is strong enough already. And adding the second ability might make this card more expensive, which is a shame. I'm fine with the drawing for 1UU. Just like a permanent Keep Watch, but with a drawback (not being able to block).

Speaking of Keep Watch: why not call this, uhm, an Observatory, then? Or Lofty Perch (from which to survey the scene)? Workshop of the Telescopes?
22  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Priest of Remembrance(Formerly known as Cementary Keeper) on: August 19, 2004, 05:15:26 pm
1/2?

Not that that would make this thing broken. Just better. And there have already been Nova Cleric and Devoted Caretaker (I believe) that were 1/2 and still had decent to good abilities.

And we would all love a good creature, wouldn't we?
23  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Common artifact not costing 0, charge counters is a plus on: August 19, 2004, 05:03:16 pm
4 mana for a book that can't even get you a head / ahead on cards? Then the activation cost should become zero. Because even with a Squee, it becomes just a looter every turn. And just only with two Squee's, it's drawing you one card each turn (taking up three others to initialise it).

I say three mana, because, well, it's a bad card. I really don't feel that there's a need to get on the safe site for this card.

And yes, Ellen lived in my monestary. In exactly the same room. With the same couch. It still has her stains on it.

Warhammer paint stains of course. What did you think?
24  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Common artifact not costing 0, charge counters is a plus on: August 17, 2004, 08:15:14 am
Well, discard two to draw two is what this does, only this gives you 1,5 cards ahead. Basically, this thing is a catalog and then a 2-for-1 trader.

Is it justified to exist next to Alfred's recent card? I think so, since lots of cards are alike.

I don't want to remove the mana cost from activation, because then you give away a catalog for 3, whereas the original costs 2U. 3 is less, and not each color should be able to blablabla usual artifacts should be restrained litany.

So is it alrighty?
25  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Common artifact not costing 0, charge counters is a plus on: August 14, 2004, 02:59:26 pm
Because I read that an artifact was needed for the TMD set (or is this gap already filled?) I tried to think of something. This is what I came up with:

Mindless Tome
3
Artifact
Mindless Tome comes into play with three charge counters on it.
1, Discard a card from your hand: Put a charge counter on Mindless Tome.
Remove two charge counters from Mindless Tome: Draw a card.

Yes, this is Mindless Automaton, but not as a creature. That makes it worse. But it's cheaper. That makes it better. In the end, you probably pay 4 to draw two cards and discard one, like with Catalog. But you retain the meager possibility to pay 2 and discard two cards to draw one.

So the card sucks. But also, in a way, it doesn't.

Shoot.

Mindless Tome
3
Artifact
Mindless Tome comes into play with three charge counters on it.
1, Discard a card from your hand: Put a charge counter on Mindless Tome.
Remove two charge counters from Mindless Tome: Draw a card.

Aren't there enough different sites you could still buy your boxes from for cheap? I don't think that SCG's closure to europe will be impactive, or something.

29  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Well I think it looks cool on: April 21, 2004, 02:54:43 am
Well, it says April 8 on the date. That's a week after April the first.

Not that that matters. I'm just looking for a reason to not believe this. It seems so implausible to me, making an entire block that's dedicated to a single culture (or well, cluster of cultures... Will you see the difference between the Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Indonesian robes?)

But for when it would turn out to actually be true... Then I move for the next block to be:

  • "Saviours of Holland."
  • "Champion of the Netherlands."
  • "The Dutch Dangeresque."
  • [/list:u]

It would feature the return of Kaervek as an evil villain, trying to close down all of our coffeshops because he's the only one who wants to smoke torches. And Morefling would be reprinted, of course. And you know what the heroes of the set would put on their fries? Mayonaise! Liters of it! They would practically soak the shit in it!
