This was a fun one for me to read. I thought I knew how much of an impact Exodus and Saga had on T1 but not completely until I read this. Saga really was an incredibly powerful set that certainly has stood the test of time. Also, as someone who piloted Oath I really appreciated this article and how the card and others like it affected the decks being played and how they evolved. Seeing early Shops deck really made me smile because Shop decks are the other type I like to pilot, and I had no idea they originated in Europe mostly.

I've had times where I create a decision tree that helps me decide what card to play at a crucial point in the game. For example, should I use a FoW or Mana Drain and if I use the MD would I be able to benefit enough from the gained mana, what are they odds they have a counter, etc.

1.) Illinois, and Chicago is the closest city to me but I am located closer to O'Hare airport.
2.) I don't need prize support and would prefer if I didn't need to pay $20-$30 to play.
3.) Close to some sort of food/restaurant(s). Other than that I'm pretty simple.
4.) I'm not a fan of proxies but 10 to 15 seems to be the norm.

How has the turn out been lately? I've had some health problems that stopped me from coming and Sundays are tough for me but I'll do my best to come in the future; don't really have the cards anymore so I'll have to slowly build up again. (Medical bills really suck)

GI noted the broad scope of this project as appropriate and challenging. Noting how difficult Brian Demars said it was just to write a year in review, imagine, now, how much MORE difficult it is to write a year in review of a year that happened nearly 20 years ago, where almost none of the relevant information can be found on the web.
My hope is that this project takes a life of its own -- as I continue to expand and move forward, that more information and people come out of the woodwork with more insights and more tidbits.
My ultimate goal is that people come to appreciate how the format has evolved, and how the format that existed in 1994-1996 continues unabated, as the exact same format today.
That is so true. The tournaments and decks back then just aren't document that well if at all; after all the internet was still a new developing concept that most people didn't have yet. I'm definitely spreading the word about this article and trying to get others to get it because every Magic player deserves to know how the game started.
