At the end of the day, whether is budget cuts, budget deficit, or a tax incrase, it's a de facto tax hike.
When government expenditures are cut, that is not a de facto tax hike -- that's shrinking government. I actually think it's pretty dangerous to make that association, as the obvious corollary is "Government spending is up, so I got a tax cut!" The essential problem with Fannie / Freddie is that we're dealing with private firms who's debt was guaranteed with government money. It was capitalism without risk. There must be consequences -- and dire ones if need be -- for conducting risky business. Get the government out of the private sector. Treat Freddy/Fannie like Ma Bell and sell them off in pieces to true private ownership.

A sort of Oath-like deck you could play is to build a deck around one of my favorite casual cards: Proteus Staff.
I very much enjoyed playing Proteus Staff with man-lands and a single Desolation Angel. Stack your deck while taking out a permanent... slow, but fun.

If there had been computers in the 1800’s, they would have predicted that in 200 years we would be waste-deep in horse manure.
Point being, trying to extrapolate conditions of the future can only be done on the basis of known technologies and applications. Energy technology is improving and will continue to improve, especially as demand (and therefore investment) grows.

Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Spiny Starfish
|
on: April 20, 2008, 08:03:58 pm

Spiny Starfish (oracle):
U: Regenerate Spiny Starfish. At end of turn, if Spiny Starfish regenerated this turn, put a 0/1 blue Starfish creature token into play for each time it regenerated this turn.
C. Rules text:
501.5. Regenerate
501.5a If the effect of a resolving spell or ability regenerates a permanent, it creates a replacement effect that protects the permanent the next time it would be destroyed this turn. In this case, “Regenerate [permanent]” means “The next time [permanent] would be destroyed this turn, instead remove all damage from it, tap it, and (if it’s in combat) remove it from combat.”
So is that a token for every time the replacement ability was created or only for every time that destruction was actually replaced? If to "regenerate" is to "create a replacement effect," it seems it would be the former.

Vintage interest in the DC metro area has been decidedly low by my perception. Legacy has a more loyal and regular following it seems, especially in NoVa. Purplehat just posted looking for a venue, so perhaps we can form something more regular here.

I own one third of a media production company, mostly dedicated to online video and documentary work. We are located in Virginia, and handle all aspects of pre-through-post production. Writing, shooting, editing, color correction, CG, audio mixing, compression, etc.

Adobe Premiere Elements has a free trial offer, although I'm not sure what limitations the "trial" imposes. Unlike many consumer based programs, it can handle unlimited video/audio tracks and real-time video rendering. The full version is available for about 100$. Pinnacle Video Spin is free, but is also known for being buggy/crashing Almost all non-linear editing systems use the same concepts and workflow...it's just a question of figuring out where the buttons are as you move from system to system. Check here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_video_editing_software...for file format compatibility if you already have imported footage.

Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Documentary of Rochester P9
|

Hi everybody...
My name is Austin Bragg, and I'm a Vintage player in Washington D.C. currently working in television. I'm much better at my job than I am at playing Magic, so I'm creating a documentary on Vintage.
I'd like to follow the players and personalities involved over the course of several large tournaments. Right now we're coming to the P9 series in Rochester as a kind of "proof of concept." If things work out well, we can continue on to Charlotte or GenCon. If things don't work out, we'll at least have some interesting footage for the TMD community to enjoy.
The point is that on Saturday there will be two guys with a video camera running around the tournament. We have already contacted a small handfull of players to follow, but we'll be on the lookout for interesting stories as the day progresses. Between rounds, we might ask you to tell us on camera how your match went. We might ask you for a quick interview. We might ask you to show us your altered art, hold up your power, or roll a die in front of the lens.
It also means that we'll have release forms for folks to sign. (Yay for our litigious society!) Essentially they say "Yes, you can film me and make a documentary." If you DON'T want to be on camera, that's no problem. We'll just take a quick Polaroid of you (which seems odd, but it makes recognizing who not to include when editing much easier) and that's that.
Even with a release, I'll only cover matches when both players are comfortable with the camera nearby. If, in the middle of a round the camera is getting on your nerves, just say the word and we'll be gone. We will do all we can to not be a distraction.
I'm excited about the project, and really looking forward to this weekend. If anyone has questions, thoughts, concerns, etc. - fire away and I'll be happy to answer.
-Austin

What about Bazaar and dredge?
If I activate Bazaar with 2 Darkblasts in the graveyard, can I dredge up the first and then decide if I want to dredge the second?
