We are afraid that with a convincing argument and no one saying otherwise we'll have our first broken card banned...
I don't think it needs to be banned. But one of the best T1 players calls for the banning, writes an article and WotC putting their nose into this discussion is not what most magic players want.

Ummm... Haven't we been abusing every card in the format since '93... Just some of the cards get more lovin' and come up more and more. That doesn't mean you have to ban a card cause it's broken. the whole format is broken. was broken. and will always be broken.
Late game broken Yawg's Will = a win.

Yeah it is collectable and it is a game. Â
Where does the Type 1 format go when it is 1000 bucks for each piece of power and there is only 1 set of power for ever 50-100 type 1 players. Â When proxy events are the only type 1 events ever and WotC drops support for the format due to lack of card pool based on the demand fer existing cards. Â Then we will have a drop in card prices.
I went to the SSG Type 1 in Rochester... Â There was tonnes of proxied cards. Â Most were the power 9 and the prices are healthy and high. Â WotC wouldn't flood the market all at once for these cards but release a limited number of them... Â Do a series of them x/x number of cards... Â You would know exactly how many of these cards have been infused into the game. Â With Alpha at 2.6 million cards and Beta at 7.8 million cards there just isn't enough cards to keep up with the demand. Â I'm not about to do the math on how many power 9 cards exist in the world. Â Then how many are sitting in collections or destroyed.
So we are left with proxy events. Â Because if WotC doesn't change their mind about reprints we'll have a format that no one can afford unless they bought in early or tonnes of disposable income to spend on Type 1. Â This is a touchy subject mainly because it involves dollars. Â Someone bought the original card and uses it for a game. Â It cost them money. Â They want to sell it someday hopefully for more money than what they paid for it. Â

Hmmm... I think it is time that WotC does something to this problem with good hard to find cards. ie Power 9 and other random 50 dollar or more cards. They have reprinted Sol Ring as a DCI foil and why not start adding to the list of DCI high end foils... I see them hitting Demonic Tutor and then doing the unthinkable. DCI Foil power cards... Have them for tournaments that they run. Top 8 get 1 of each of them and then what ever is left over goes out randomly to who ever sticks it out.
With events running as proxy WotC is losing stats for how many games are being played in the different formats. I would like to see them start allowing proxy events as DCI events.
As for the number of proxy cards that should be allowed is 10. This gives you the P9 and a LoA. Then if you want more... 1 buck for each of them. But people have to get a sharpie and write the name of the card they want to proxy on it. None of this pen crap... and use light colored cards like plains and such...
I know a lot of people have spent thousands on buying power and such... But more cards are needed for the format. If there was more cards available this wouldn't be a discussion on the number of proxies allowed for events...

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: The State of Vintage: Has Vintage Bled Out the Casual Players?
|
on: July 05, 2005, 12:54:30 pm

It is simply perception of the casual players that they can't compete with the tier 1 and 2 decks. Â if you play rogue you will lose. Â If you play fun you lose. Â If your deck isn't one of the many named TMD decks you're not a serious threat. Â The Slaver deck will simply out draw and out counter your fun deck. Â The good blue cards (ie FoW, Drains, card drawing cards...) that will tear apart the casual non-blue deck.
The skill level that a serious type 1 player has over the casual player is another problem. Â The casual player is playing a deck that was cool from 3 or more years ago or is a combination of new and old cards. Â Uses more fun cards and ends up being more creative in card choices rather than using cost effective cards that bring the highest yield of advantage.
I think we may have killed the casual player...

It is the creature count that hurts Lightning Greaves. You have 4 Goblin Welders, Pentavus and Platinum Angel. The creature count is too low to support it. While it helps keep GW alive longer against the top decked burn spells... If you add more untility creatures to the deck then it increases the performance you need out of Lightning Greaves. Too many creatures and the deck ends up becoming something else...

I'd say that the Lightning Greaves are a good solution. If your GW was going to die to an instant it would happen on your end step anyway... No real loss. But if it resolves you've got yourself a well protected GW or any other creature that you'd rather not see die.

The first play of your turn is a pithing needle. Naming Goblin Welder. (Assume you're playing against CS) Your opponent now has an artifact he needs to kill before his welders go active. You need to shut him down long enough to win. If he gets his welders active you're probably going to need to deal with a Mindslaver...

A year and a half ago I was using Workshops and Bazaars in a mask deck here in Ontario, Canada... I think this is a better choice due to the Null Rod issues in the meta game.
It is nice to see 2 broken cards being used in deck and be competitive...

Hmmm... I sold my collection of T1 Magic cards and bought me a car I've wanted for a while. I commute a long distance so that influenced my decision.
2003 Volkswagon Jetta, Fully loaded Turbo Diesel.
So now i'm stuck playing budget decks...

I once played a Shahrazad deck. It did ok... I didn't use the tormod's Crypt as the rules on main game and sub game hadn't been changed quite yet.
Burning wish would be great in the deck if it wasn't for it being restrited.

An extra 10-15 minutes for watching 2 control decks try to kill each other doesn't sound like fun. Does the DCI tournament floor rules allow for any time limit to be used?
