1  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Fetch Affinity on: February 19, 2009, 11:41:20 am
@ Harlequin, workshop decks are nice, but not the thing im after, the list I posted is seriously dated, but still holds a lot of potential.
Master of Etherium doesnt always work good together with ravager but they can be considered for the same deck.
The Jester seems like a good awnser to all the drain decks in the current meta but also doesnt really configure with the posted list, on the other hand maybe ill try out some evil Jester brew deck based on the old Jester decks. Master Transmuter is a great deck as well but also doesnt really add anything to the deck, although all these lists do give a lot of food for thought, especially about the choice of creatures, propably im just too much attached to staples like disciple too think about new slots. Wink
Its also good to see that there is a lot of progress on the combination of force of will and workshop, thats definitely something ill look into. Very Happy
2  Eternal Formats / Creative / Fetch Affinity on: February 19, 2009, 06:01:52 am
Hey there everyone,

While browsing trough some old MWS files I found the old affinity deck that I used to play which I received from YakuzaxtheRock back in the days.
The deck is a blast to play and I decided to fine tune it for some casual vintage play, ill start of with the list.

Affinity:

4 Arcbound Ravager
4 Arcbound Worker
4 Frogmite
4 Disciple of the Vault
2 Ornithopter
4 Skullclamp
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Saphire
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Pearl
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Vault
1 Chrome Mox
1 Mox Diamond
1 Mana Crypt
4 Force of Will
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Time Walk
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Time Twister
1 Wheel of Fortune
4 Thoughtcast
1 Tolarian Academy
4 Polluted Delta
1 Badlands
2 Tropical Island
2 Vault of Whispers
2 Seat of the Synod

Sideboard:

4 Oxidize
2 Red Elemental Blast
3 Tormods Crypt
2 Naturalize
4 Rushwood Legate

The main strength of the deck is its ability to have an awnser to almost anything if tuned correctly and its speed (in comparrison to other aggro decks).
The choice of playing a fetch+duals manabase seems odd at first but plays out quite natural.
First off is the thinning effect of fetching, second off fetchlands offer an advantage in playing against wastelands by being able to crack in response.
Force of will offers some resilence against control and combo, the blue count still is on the low side, im thinking about addings some master of etheriums but im not sure what to cut for them
Whilst being a blast to play, the deck has some weak points, if not played carefully a well timed energy flux or rebuild can be devestating and the manabase can be unstable against decks sporting 4 wastelands.
The sideboard is a bit of a random composure, Oxidize is there against Stax, Crypts against Ichorid and other graveyard based decks, Rushwood Legate does wonders against decks sporting Islands.
What should be cut in the sideboard for todays current metagame? Are there also any suggestions about how to add Master of Etherium? TQ in advance for any help

Greetings, Koeka
3  Eternal Formats / Creative / Thoughtcast Painter on: February 12, 2009, 08:08:16 am
Hey there everyone,

I have been out of magic for around 2 years now, in the last tournament I played Gifts was still the deck to beat, so as far as I can see on deckcheck, the metagame has changed pretty radical.
Since the Dutch Vintage Championships are coming up in April, I decided to get back to playing vintage.
The most intresting deck I saw was the Thoughtcast Painter deck as played by Demonic Attorney to a 2nd place at Myriad Games in Januari.

Thoughtcast Painter by Demonic Attorney @Myriad Games 17 Jan:

Mainboard:
1 Library of Alexandria
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Jet
1 Mana Crypt
1 Sol Ring
1 Black Lotus
3 Volcanic Island
2 Underground Sea
2 Seat of the Synod
2 Island
2 Flooded Strand
2 Polluted Delta
1 Merchant Scroll
1 Brainstorm
1 Tinker
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Time Walk
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Darksteel Colossus
2 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Relic of Progenitus
2 Red Elemental Blast
2 Pyroblast
2 Grindstone
3 Painter's Servant
3 Mana Drain
4 Thirst for Knowledge
4 Thoughtcast
4 Force of Will
1 Tolarian Academy

# 60

Sideboard:
2 Chalice of the Void
4 Leyline of the Void
1 Red Elemental Blast
1 Viashino Heretic
1 Shattering Spree
2 Ingot Chewer
2 Pithing Needle
2 Old Man of the Sea

# 15

During my first games on MWS the deck proved to be very solid, I won my first 3 Matches (2 times against stax and 1 time against TPS) with relative ease.
The only problem I had was the manabase, it seems very vulnerable to non-basic hate, and in general the land count seems quite low, with null rod as an added problem.
The main deck seems pretty fixed so far with the 2 relic of progenitus serving as open spots, I definetly wanted to try to fix in 2 trinket mages, since they serve as a tutor and a minor beatstick. In the end my list ended up in between Duncans top 8 list and Demonic and looks a bit like this:

2 Trinket Mage
1 Darksteel Colossus
3 Painter's Servant
2 Grindstone
1 Relic of Progenitus
2 Sensei's Divining Top
1 Engineered Explosives
4 Thirst for Knowledge
3 Thoughtcast
4 Force of Will
3 Mana Drain
2 Red Elemental Blast
2 Pyroblast
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Brainstorm
1 Tinker
1 Merchant Scroll
1 Black Lotus
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Crypt
5 Moxen
2 Polluted Delta
2 Flooded Strand
3 Volcanic Island
2 Underground Sea
1 Tolarian Academy
3 Island
2 Seat of the Synod

Sideboard:
4 Leyline of the Void
2 Pithing Needle
2 Arcane Laboratory
2 Pyroclasm
2 Ingot Chewer
1 Relic of Progenitus
1 Rack and Ruin
1 Red Elemental Blast

Wich means the changes from the first list were:

-1 Thoughtcast
-1 Library of Alexandria
-1 Time Walk
-1 Relic of Progenitus

+2 Trinket Mage
+1 EE
+1 Island

Sideboard:

-2 Old Man of the Sea
-1 Viashino Heretic
-1 Shat Spree

+2 Pyroclasm
+1 Relic of Progenitus
+1 Rack and Ruin

I took the Time Walk from the mainboard and the library to make the deck 10 proxy viable, in the time walk spot I put the first Trinket Mage and the Library spot I used for the third island to up the basic land count.
Last off I added the second trinket mage and an EE instaid of a thoughtcast and a Relic of Progenitus, the Relic is a strong card in some matchups but the trinket provides more stability in my opinion.
The sideboard is just personal prefference, I never really like Old man but in some matchups it is stronger.
I hope this thread opens up some discussion on this versatile deck with a lot of promise!

4  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: budget 5 proxie grim long on: November 22, 2006, 03:38:20 pm
I have no acces to oath or duals before the tourney, so that's going to be a problem.
I think the artificers intuition deck is better then the grim long list, I am also more familliar to it and I designed the deck myself(with inspiration from suicide virus) wich makes it even cooler, so I'm going to play it this friday at FNM

I also made some changes to the list shown above,

-2 Orchard
-1 LED
-1 Wheel of Fortune
-1 Tinker
-1 Memory Jar
-1 Mystical Tutor
+1 Thoughtcast
+1 Tendrills of Agony
+1 Vault of Whispers
+1 Chrome Mox
+1 Enlightened Tutor (is it better then the mystical?)
+1 Ornithopter (I needed more critters)

I replaced mystical tutor with enlightened tutor because it dint fetch enough cards anymore, but with these changes I do keep yust 16 blue cards for Fow wich might be a bit low
It's still not perfect and the land count might be a bit low now but not to low, anyone else with some tips?
5  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: budget 5 proxie grim long on: November 22, 2006, 09:20:15 am
I have all the cards for the deck already so it's budget  Wink sry to flame, Perplex is nice but grim tutor is really needed, it also fetches lotus recall etc etc.
Also to note I have all the cards listed above, so I have to choose wich of the two decks I will play (grim long and the artificers clamp deck)
6  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: budget 5 proxie grim long on: November 22, 2006, 07:25:04 am
Since a friend of mine is already playing belcher I can´t lend the cards that I´m missing so I´ll have to play another deck.
At school I remebered a budget combo deck I played.
I won a non proxie tourney with it, bu the only serious deck I had to play against was gobs so it wasn´t a really competetive meta.

This is the list from the top off my head with 5 proxies added.

3 Artificers Intuition
4 Skullclamp
3 Helm of Awakening
2 Sensei´s Divining Top
4 Myr Servitor
4 Cloud of Faeries
2 Ornithopter
4 Force of Will
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Ancestral Recall (proxie 1)
1 Tinker
1 Memory Jar
1 Crop Rotation
1 Wheel of Fortune
1 Mox Saphire (proxie 2)
1 Mox Jet (proxie 3)
1 Mox Emeral-Ruby (proxie 4)
1 Black Lotus (proxie 5)
1 Mana Crypt
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Vault
1 Lotus Petal
1 LED
1 Mox Diamond
3 Thoughtcast
1 Cunning Wish
4 City of Brass
3 Gemstone Mine
1 Tolarian Academy
2 Seat of the Synod
1 Vault of Whispers
2 Forbidden Orchard

I can´t Remember what I played in the side, tendrills of agony might be a better win condition since you can play it with a lower storm count.
The main combo is helm~and double top.
In my opinion this deck is better then suicide virus but that doesnt say a lot.
I can either play this deck, t1 spring tide or grim long, wich deck sounds best for a meta full of aggro and random control decks(question mark, these random school computers are so weird)

thanx, greetz koeka

7  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: budget 5 proxie grim long on: November 20, 2006, 03:59:32 pm
My meta doesnt contain contain much power, but I don't have joblin welders or belchers so I don't know if I can get them in time.
My meta contains random aggro and some random combo decks.
Is belcher a good call for such a meta, I pressume you mean normal b/r/g belcher?
an example list:

/ Lands
1 Bayou
1 Taiga

// Creatures
3 Goblin Welder
4 Tinder Wall
4 Elvish Spirit Guide

// Spells
4 Goblin Charbelcher
1 Yawgmoth's Will
2 Living Wish
3 Cabal Ritual
1 Mana Crypt
1 Lotus Petal
4 Land Grant
1 Mox Ruby
4 Dark Ritual
1 Mana Vault
1 Sol Ring
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Emerald
1 Wheel of Fortune
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Necropotence
3 Duress
1 Memory Jar
1 Demonic Consultation
1 Grim Monolith
4 Chromatic Sphere
1 Lion's Eye Diamond
1 Channel
1 Yawgmoth's Bargain

and 2 open slots

// Sideboard
1 Artifact Mutation
4 Xantid Swarm
2 Oxidize
1 Viridian Shaman
2 Krosan Grip
1 Hearth Kami
1 Dark Confidant
1 Ancient Tomb
1 Forbidden Orchard
1 Tolarian Academy
8  Eternal Formats / Creative / budget 5 proxie grim long on: November 20, 2006, 03:30:28 pm
hi there, I'm trying to build an somewhat competetive combo deck for a srubbish fnm 5 proxie tourney, even with the 5 proxies most decks suck.

As a starting point I used this list from the magic the gathering site:

// Lands
4  Gemstone Mine
1  Tolarian Academy
4  City of Brass
3  Forbidden Orchard

// Creatures
1  Darksteel Colossus

// Spells
4  Dark Ritual
4  Cabal Ritual
4  Duress
1  Lion's Eye Diamond
4  Chromatic Sphere
4  Grim Tutor
4  Brainstorm
1  Burning Wish
1  Mox Diamond
1  Demonic Tutor
1  Windfall
1  Mystical Tutor
1  Vampiric Tutor
1  Yawgmoth's Will
1  Tendrils of Agony
1  Tinker
4  Helm of Awakening
1  Lotus Petal
1  Memory Jar
1  Wheel of Fortune
1  Regrowth
1  Chain of Vapor
1  Grim Monolith
1  Mana Vault
1  Mana Crypt
1  Chrome Mox

Now, this deck has to be budget so I had to replace some cards leaving me with

1 Mind's Desire
1 Ancestral Recall (proxie 1)
1 Yawgmoth's Bargain
1 Necropotence
1 Xantid Swarm
1 Sol Ring
1 Chrome Mox
1 Black Lotus
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mana Vault
1 Grim Monolith
1 Chain of Vapor
1 Regrowth
1 Wheel of Fortune
1 Memory Jar
1 Lotus Petal
3 Helm of Awakening
1 Tinker
1 Tendrills of Agony
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Mox Diamond
1 Burning Wish
4 Brainstorm
3 Grim Tutors (proxie)
2 Chromatic Sphere
1 LED
4 Duress
3 Cabal Ritual
4 Dark Ritual
1 Darksteel Colossus
3 Forbidden Orchard
4 City of Brass
1 Tolarian Academy
4 Gemstone Mine

does this look like any good?
And now for some content.
The mana base is self explanatory I guess, I currently don't have any ESG's but luckily there arent that many stax decks.
The problem with the deck still is helm, you hate it but it's really needed.
2 Chromatic sphere's are there for colour fixing when you need it.
I guess most cards are self explanatory, but still the list is far from perfect.
Still havent decided on a sideboard but, something with 2 xantids and some burning wish targets.
Sry for the silly spelling mistakes I made.

Greetz, Koeka

9  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Unpowered sensei afiinity acombo deck(budget) on: May 31, 2006, 11:52:09 am
I replaced 1 cloud of faeries with 1 muddle the mixture, it replaces the faeries nicely since you can tutor it, you can tutor for academy(by demonic) you can tutor helm of awakening and artificers intuition, infernal tutor might be better, testing will show, muddle also has a pro to infernal tutor since it allows you to play random sideboard cards, 1 naturalize etc
10  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Unpowered sensei afiinity acombo deck(budget) on: May 24, 2006, 05:41:28 pm
for the tinker part that should be okay if youre not running chalice or null rod(most chalice or null rod decks dont pack DC)
and the second thing is, my meta is unpowered as I said in my first post, you don't even see any chalice's or null rods Razz

So far the infernal tutors are good but i'm not sure what to replace
11  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Unpowered sensei afiinity acombo deck(budget) on: May 24, 2006, 07:38:51 am
infernal tutor certainly is worth testing yes, but remand is a bit to slow without moxen and there are also better ways to ramp up you're own spellcount, I did include bargain in my first list together with necropotence but I cut them together with the dark rituals, its also a bit slow but it could work in the desire slot, another consideration would be cutting fows and add dark rituals duress and infernal tutor, I will certainly test it
12  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Unpowered sensei afiinity acombo deck(budget) on: May 23, 2006, 01:26:40 pm
adding duress mainboard looks like a good idea, although without the ornithopters i would only have 8 clampable dudes which is a bit to low i guess, maybe it can work, I'm gonna test something like

-3 ornithopter
-1 clamp
+1 artificers intuition
+3 Duress

sideboard
-1 Duress
+1 Yawgmoth's Will

I'm pretty sure that these changes will result in having not enough critters, I'm also gonna test

-1 time spiral
-1 wheel of fortune
-1 minds desire
+3 duress

I usually combo off on turn 3(if opponent only has 1 fow or 1 other counter) with fow backup, you can also have turn 2 kills but that's not a common thing
13  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Unpowered sensei afiinity acombo deck(budget) on: May 15, 2006, 02:17:09 pm
I dont own any power anymore so that's why I don't have it anymore;)
maybe sideboard aether spellbomb could work against reanimator and other big critter decks
14  Eternal Formats / Creative / Unpowered sensei afiinity acombo deck(budget) on: May 15, 2006, 08:20:31 am
hi there, i used to play powered arcbord virus and thought of combining it
with the sensei/sensei/helm combo, this is the current list I'm testing:

Combo pieces:

4 Helm of Awakening
3 Artificer's Intuition
2 Sensei's Divining Top
2 Brainfreeze

this is the main combo engine in the deck, the second brainfreeze is something that was worth testing since it also ramps up the blue count in the deck, I'm thinking about adding the 4th artificers intuition since you almost always win the turn after resolving it

Disruption:
4 Force of Will( obv inclusion since the deck sports enough blue cards)

Card Draw and search:
4 Skullclamp
4 Thoughtcast
1 Crop Rotation
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Mystical Tutor

the deck has a strong card drawing engine of having artificers intuition and skullclamp out combined with myr servitors.
The thoughtcast's are strictly better in this deck because it doesn't sport fetchlands or other shuffle effect

Creatures:
4 Myr Servitor
3 Ornithopter
4 Cloud of Faeries

Myr servitor is really strong with artificers intuition and mainly with clamp, thopter is there to be double clamped during comboing.
Cloud of faeries gives you loads of mana with tolarian academy, ramps storm count and he can be clamped.

Bombs:
1 Wheel of Fortune
1 Time Spiral
1 Mind's Desire
1 Tolarian Academy

time spiral is insane with the academy as is minds desire, they also add to the blue count again.

Mana:
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Vault
1 Chrome Mox
1 Mana Crypt
1 Lotus Petal
4 Seat of the Synod
2 Vault of Whispers
4 City of Brass
3 Gemstone Mine
1 Great Furnace

citys and mines are there to support the mana base altough you could also swap the city's gemstones and great furna to add 4 polluted deltas and 4 duals.
At the place where i normally play i have a current record of 16-1 against scrubby decks.

my sideboard looks something like

2 Tormod's Crypt (graveyard hate)
3 Pithing Needle ( anti-everything tech)
2 Naturalize (nasty things like nether void)
4 Oxidize (affinity and some weird artifact decks)
2 Duress ( against control and combo)
2 Ground Seal(loads of reanimator decks)
15  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: unpowered shoplles on: April 11, 2006, 11:49:34 am
i made the following changes after some major testing

-4 thran dynamo (mana overkill)
-1 tree of tales   (21 land is enough I guess)

+ 3 Goblin Welder
+ 2 Thirst for Knowledge

the sideboard is something i still havent agreed on, but it should contain red elemental blast and darkblast
16  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: unpowered shoplles on: April 05, 2006, 01:55:18 pm
I think that in my scrubby meta the chalices are better of in the side since no one plays moxen or 0 mana spells exept for 1 random kobolds player and sometimes a few powered players.
I do need an alternative for thran dynamo ind since it is way to slow
17  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: unpowered shoplles on: April 04, 2006, 11:37:04 am
after some playtesting I ended up with this list:

4 Juggernaut
4 Smokestack
3 Crucible of Worlds
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Balance
2 Staff of Domination
1 Trinisphere
4 Tangle Wire
4 Metalworker
2 Mindslaver
4 Thran Dynamo
1 Voltaic Key
1 Tinker
1 Crop Rotation
1 Grim Monolith
1 Mana Vault
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Crypt
4 City of Traitors
3 Ancient Tomb
3 Gemstone Mine
3 City of Brass
1 Tolarian Academy
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
1 Seat of the Synod
1 Vault of Whispers
1 Tree of Tales

I tried to find space for the sphere of resistances but i didn't find any space in the main, the juggs are really good against decks that have sufficient disruption to stop you from comboing.

the side looks something like:

3 Sphere of Resistance
1 Fastbond
3 Red Elemental Blast
1 Karn, Silver Golemn
2 Choke
2 Pyroclasm
3 Naturalize

this side has awnsers against all the random combo control and aggro decks, but it still doesn't feel that good
18  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: unpowered shoplles on: April 03, 2006, 09:59:37 am
I'm going to test those changes at a local tourney Friday and test the different builds, the obvious thing is to swap some islands for crystal veins and the 4th ancient tomb speeding up the process
19  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: unpowered shoplles on: April 01, 2006, 03:47:10 am
The first idea of the deck wasnt really viable(even in my meta) so I tried another idea, it's basically a 1.x tinker deck ported to vintage with some changes,
here's the list for reference

4 Smokestack
2 Crucible of Worlds
4 Tangle Wire
2 Mishra's Helix
4 Metalworker
3 Masticore
2 Mindslaver
2 Phyrexian Processor
2 Stroke of Genius
4 Thran Dynamo
1 Voltaic Key
2 Upheavel(probably to slow)
1 Tinker
1 Grim Monolith
1 Mana Vault
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Crypt
4 City of Traitors
3 Ancient Tomb
6 Island
1 Tolarian Academy
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
4 Seat of the Synod

i havent't really made a sideboard yet but i'm working on it.
I don't think most of the cards in the deck don't need to have further explanation, the upheavels are pretty solid here because there are loads of slow funky noob control decks,
The only real problem is that you the deck doesnt really have any searching power, so i'm thinking about adding them in the upheavel slots.

I hope someon can help to imporve this pile without adding shops, or power
20  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: unpowered shoplles on: March 25, 2006, 05:13:59 am
If i would make a unpowered beatrs list the base should look something like this i guess.

1 Mana Crypt
4 Chalice of the Void
1 Mana Vault
4 Smokestack
1 Sol Ring
4 Sphere of Resistance
1 Trinisphere
4 Juggernaut
4 Su-Chi
4 Synod Centurion
4 Metalworker
1 Karn,Silver Golem
4 Ancient Tomb
4 City of Traitors
4 Crystal Vein
1 Strip Mine
4 Wasteland
1 Tolarian Academy

this list is based on the powered list and shows what I would still have if i make an unpowered version of mono brown beats
21  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: unpowered shoplles on: March 25, 2006, 05:07:51 am
The meta im playing in has 2 powered players at most t1 fnms and the rest of the field are scrubs, minus some better players who dont play t1 on a regular basis but do have all the good cards minus power etc.
The meta has absolutely no fish, 1 oath player, 1 kobold clamp player, 1 pros bloom player Confused and the rest of the deck are random noob piles without fows etc etc. thanx for the advice
22  Eternal Formats / Creative / unpowered shoplles on: March 24, 2006, 06:21:58 pm
hhi there, i have always been a big fan of mono brown decks an have all the cards for it etc exept power and shops, im trying to make a unpowered, shopless list for a fnm tourney in a couple of weeks, this is the list I started of with

1 Mana Crypt
1 Lotus Petal
1 Mana Vault
1 Sol Ring
1 Memory Jar
4 Skullclamp
4 Sphere of Resistance
1 Staff of Domination
3 Sword of Fire and Ice
4 Tangle Wire
1 Trinisphere
4 Arcbound Ravager
4 Metalworker
4 Myr Retriever
4 Myr Servitor
3 Triskelion
4 Ancient Tomb
3 City of Traitors
4 Crystal Vein
2 Darksteel Citadel
1 Strip Mine
1 Tolarian Academy
4 Wasteland

Mana Base±

Without shops and moxen, the best lands for the deck become ancient tomb crystal vein and city of traitors, they should provide some of the exeleration you normally get from power and shops, but they are still a long way off.
The Clamp draw engine is a obvoius inclusion in this deck and draws you tons of cards, Ravager is there for the beats together with Triskelion.
Metalworkers are an auto include in this deck, as are waste-strip.
Ive not yet decided how many lock pieces I should play and about a side, any suggestions?

(im soryy for the crapy spelling etc)

Ill write some more content about the deck tomorrow because i have to go to bed now;)
23  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Ichorid on: March 03, 2006, 11:08:39 am
does anyone actually has a link to a powerless bazaarless list plz?(sry to bother)

Decklist requests are against the rules.  TMD has a search function for this sort of thing.  That said, I'm having trouble getting my head around the idea of a 'budget' deck running four copies of a two-hundred dollar land. Also, work on your grammar; it's terrible.

-Klep
24  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Ichorid on: February 28, 2006, 02:47:34 pm
there isn't any reason to play cephalid coliseum when you can have a free better version of it Wink but for budget versions it does the trick most of the times
25  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Affinity Combo(unpowerd) on: February 06, 2006, 12:31:19 pm
I also metalworker combo in t1 powerd online sometimes but now this is something completely different, the tendrills isnt really necesary but you really ahve to goldfish some games ind, i do agree that combining several decks sometimes gives consistency issues

does anyone has some tips for the main and side?

after some testing I am sure I want to add more creatures, but I have no idea what I should cut, im thinking of adding 2 cloud of faeries instead of the crucible and zuran orb

Merged triple (!) post. See below.

1 Yawgmoth's Bargain
4 Skullclamp
1 Crucible of Worlds
1 Zuran Orb
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Time Spiral

Sideboard:
2 Defense Grid
3 Extract
4 Cranial Extraction
3 Disenchant
3 Tormod's Crypt

I found this list when I was looking for an old steelshaper-affinity deck I played some time ago in t2, ill explain some of the card choices

3 Ancient Tomb(don't know if its the right land to play, you could change this with artifact lands)
1 Barbarian ring+1 Cephalid Coliseum, Use cephalid coliseum to put the deck into grave, recur barbarian ring with the cruci fastbond combo.
1 Strip Mine, with crucible
4 Mishras Factory, lackeys and other early critters in the unpowerd meta

The affinity part is to power up an fast draw engine that can even be used to kill the opponent quickly.

the combo engine of crucible, fastbond and zuran orb gets powered out fast and make excellent bombs on their own most of the time
Auriok steelshaper: one of the most important factors in the draw engine, free clamping is pretty good
Necropotence: fast way to draw lots of cards, makes dark ritual even better in this deck
Tendrills: combo time, sometimes you don't even need the draw engine to go off with tendrills
Yawgmoth's Bargain: life into draw is pretty good

I'm thinking of adding cloud of faeries if you draw it during the engine its like,0 mana draw 2 cards and interact with tolarian academy

I'm sorry for the crappy spelling and grammar used in the text above

Dynamis you might have read that this was an old deck he played, not in vintage obv, voltaic key is restricted for ages as is grim monolith, second thing, why are you all nagging about an article thats not really written for competitive t1, Rizzo obviously knows that the accelerated black deck wont be good, same goes for the dredge deck(until know Wink)

I think if you want to make this deck really viable you should find space for waste/strip tot really disrupt the oppo with sphere, I also have an question for making this build unpowerd, the obv change for the ruby should be an mountain, lotus petal instead of lotus? gl

you have the basics for the deck, but theres an lot of work to be done, i personally dislike the grids and play the xantids main,
i would cut 2 grid 1 esg, 1 gemstone mine, 1 time walk(sucks and is irrelevant, decreases the change for and good card in the combo process) and 1 windfall, and add 1 colossus main, 1 orchard more and 3 xantids

for the side, well i think:2 reb, 2 hurkylls recall, 4 cabal ritual(anti chalice tech according to some people) 1 xantid swarm, 2 rack and ruin, 3 energy flux, and 1 random meta slot
