1  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / US-World Divide in Vintage? on: March 07, 2006, 09:15:04 am
It's always annoying to see all these PowerNine tournaments and such taking place regularly in the US, but not here in the UK. I can understand that Magic kicked off in the US, but the world is gripped in Magic fever and a bit of balance would be appreciated.

I don't want to detract from those players developing the format and winning power, it's just that myself and the rest of the gaming community here in the North-East of England don't get close to chances like that.

My question is thusly: Is Vintage Magic isolated in the US, or has it spread further afield?

If anyone knows of any opportunities to join in with the Vintage crowd over here in the UK, it would be of great assistance.

Keep up the good work, and congrats to Jacob Riehm for winning a Lotus at Chicago with a very amusing deck!
2  Eternal Formats / Creative / What in your opinion is the strongest budget aggro deck? on: February 02, 2005, 07:55:59 am
It's all down to your area's metagame. If combo decks are strong, go for a weenie-rush deck.

I'd prefer (if running budget) to go with U/G Madness, because there are loads of discard cards for every type of build you could want to run. Frantic Search, Careful Study, Gifts Ungiven, Intuition, Aquamoeba, Wild Mongrol, Compulsion...need I go on?

FCG is really simple once you get used to it. Plus, it scares control-deck players...like me for instance.
3  Eternal Formats / Creative / Serious Deck Discussion: Fluctuator, a possible contender?? on: February 01, 2005, 10:59:09 am
Haunting Misery is really fun to play, but it's a one-shot deal that often hits a counterspell.

Lots of cycling creatures in the bin can lead to some trickery with graveyard removal. I've often found that Repopulate is really tech, as it can help if you run into lots of land.

You definetly want more than one Misery if you choose to run it.

Anyone suggest Lightning Rift? Not much mana to work with, but Songs of the Damned can be funny to run with Repopulate and the Rift.
4  Eternal Formats / Creative / Gift's Ungiven - the new Bomb on: January 28, 2005, 08:17:39 am
I include a single Gifts Ungiven in my Welder-Slaver deck. It's really good for setting up a lock. I'm currently considering adding a second one.

Example: I Gifts for Chalice of the Void, Trinisphere, Mindslaver and Cranial Extraction versus your Tendrils deck. What do you give me?

I don't think it's that good in TPS, but there a lot of decks out there that could benefit from Gifts. It's a cross between Intuition and Fact or Fiction. What's not to love?

It's nice to see Gifts being used. Now, if only there was a way to get Golden Wish some play...
