Definitely Swords on Titan. Saved my fat ass it did.
Grunt is Great, but 4 is too much. I overdrew Him waterbury day 2 and decided to cut 1. It worked out extremely well all day. It has great synergy with both ninja and stifles, but is very easy to overdraw.
Exalted is there because it is great when you want to keep the null rods, allowing you to race decks while still hurting thier manabase. Honestly, they were great at waterbury, but the wrong call here. I made alot of bad calls in the SB construction. This is why you dont build multiple decks the night before a tournament.
I honestly could never play the Lion version. Too many white cards for me.

Well, we all heard the horrible news. When I heard I felt for Roland and Jacob because I myself had a lot of cards stolen right after Waterbury 8 (although not nearly as much). I assembled my team of loyal fat people for the last minute benefit event. We drove 100+ miles each way to make it there. We show up to find out the Beanie Exchange was recently robbed. Bastards. I donate something cool to the prize structure and sign up. 33 players show up, meaning 6 rounds of funderful swiss. Here is the pile I decided to run after almost making T8 with it on Waterbury day 2.
U/W Lionless Fish
Manabase (23) 4x Mishras Factory (MVP) 4x Wasteland 1x Strip Mine 1x Black Lotus 1x Mox Sapphire 1x Mox Pearl 1x Plains 2x Island 4x Tundra 4x Flooded Strand
Things that deal damage (13) 4x Meddling Mage 3x Jotun Grunt 3x Stormscape Apprentice 3x Ninja of the Deep Hours
Random Other Cards 4x Force of Will 4x Stifle (OMFG never will cut below 4) 4x Brainstorm 3x Daze 1x Time Walk 1x Ancestral Recall 3x Null Rod 4x Swords to Plowshares
Sideboard- 2x Rushing River (awesome all day) 2x Exalted Angel (never played even when sided in) 2x Kataki, War’s Wage 3x Orim’s Chant 3x Maze of Ith (never really used wasted slot) 3x Magus of the Unseen (INSANE ALL DAY)
In retrospect, I would cut the 3rd Ninja for a 4th Stormscape, as they were relevant all day long. I honestly HATE Isamaru, because I have seen multiple people get screwed by multiples of it (read Dave Feinstein’s tourney report from Waterbury for example). With Darkblast running around killing little guys, Savannah Lions is worse than ever. Stormscape improves Oath, Gifts, Workshop Aggro (very relevant as you will see), the mirror (tapping grunt is the tech) and apparently the Masknought matchup (also VERY relevant). I also prefer having a ton of blue cards for when I see a lot of drains and want to change the Dazes into Misdirections.
Ray starts everything promptly at 11:18ish/esque
(Warning, my notes Wang-Chung, so this is reconstructed from scraps of Paper and foggy, 230 mile soaked memory)
Round 1- Matt (forgot last name) Playing U/W Feinstein Fish
Really nice guy I have talked to in passing at a few different events, He winces when I lay out my Waterbury playmat. Doomhed- 1, Reality- 0
Game 1
I win the Coinflip and Choose to play. He gets the turn 1 Isamaru and Savannah Lions, which trade with an STP and Stormscape respectively. He knocks me down to 4, but a Time Walk with a Mage and a Grunt swinging on the board gives me game 1. (Note- He did not see my Mishra’s Factories this game and I didn’t see any grunts on his side.)
Life totals Me- 20-19-17-15-13-12-4 Him- 20-19-18-14-6-0
Sideboard- Out 3x Null rod, 3x Daze. In 2x Rushing River, 2x Kataki, 2x Exalted Angel.
Game 2
He plays Pearl, Plains, Isamaru. I drop Island, Stormscape. I am shorted on White and he is shorted on blue. By the time he draws blue, I have the Strip. I slow his assault and then stabilize with a Grunt and Factory. Those 2 take it home.
Life totals- Me- 20-18-14-10-8-12 Him- 20-18-16-10-6-0
Matches- 1-0 Games- 2-0 Thrilled by my win, I look around to see Travis, Jigglypuff and Chocoshake have all won their first round matches. I then go and start entering match results into the computer. Next round starts and I find I am paired to Travis for the 2nd round 2 in as many events. I apparently flubbed up 1 match result and Travis loudly prays for a re-pairing.
Round 2 Travis “This is Fucking Bullshit” Laplante, Playing Masknought
Game 1 I lose the Die Roll and Travis chooses to play. Travis goes Underground Sea, Go. I Play wasteland, go. I am holding 2x Null rod, Meddling Mage and 2xFactory hand after mulling to 6. I kept knowing he was playing Mask. Travis drops a turn 2 Necropotence and wins turn 3. “ I would stand on a chair and yell, but I didn’t kill you on the first turn.” Doomhed- 1, Reality- 1
Life totals- Me-20- (-6) Him- 20-19-12
Sideboard Out- 3x Daze, 3x Ninja, 1x Stifle In- 3x Orim’s Chant, 2x Exalted Angel, 2x Rushing River
Game 2- I resolve Null rod, Trapping his dudes in hand. He plays 2 dark rituals to get 2 Phyrexian Negators on the board to stop his imminant death. I Rushing River the 2 Negators and wasteland his Underground Sea while he gets smacked by his Mana Crypt a few times. Mana Crypt to the face FTW. “2 Fucking Flooded Strands and I have to draw both of them.”
Life Totals- Me- 20 Travis- 20-15-11-8-7-3-0
Game 3 Travis loudly mulls to 4. Those 4 are Mana Crypt, Illusionary Mask, Sea, Vampiric Tutor. He Vamps for Confidant which was played face down next turn. I swords the Confidant, then a whole lot of nothing happens for awhile. We eventually end up with Travis at 1 due to Mana Vault and Mana Crypt, him with Negator and double dreadnought on board and me with a Stormscape Apprentice and double Factory. He cannot alpha strike because I am at 19 and can survive him swinging in. After winning like 6 die rolls in a row, Travis dies to his own Mana Crypt. “I Shoulda boarded it out…. I was going to but changed my mind.”
Doomhed-2, Reality-1 Life Totals- Me- 20-19 Him- 20-18-15-14-11-8-7-4-3-2-1-0
Games- 4-1-0 Matches- 2-0
After letting Travis vent a few expletive-laced sentences, I stumble over to a far corner of the room where I overhear talk of Brassman playing the Confidant workshop aggro deck he wrote about on Starcity and kicking some ass. Note to self….
Round 3 Andy “Teh Brass One” Probasco, Playing “Unnamed Confidant Aggro Workshop Deck”, Or, UCAW’D for short.
We discuss the merits of Xantid Swarm in Stax and a possible Natural Order decklist for either Legacy or Type 1, depending on where you popped into the conversation. My only hope is that someone terrible will overhear us one day and think we are in serious discussion (in that case, it would be an automatic point reduction for reality, making me the automatic winner in that matchup).
Game 1-
We trade a lot of blows back and forth. He Confidants into a Confidant 3 times while I keep trading away my guys to save my ass. He overruns me with fatness.
Life totals- Me- 20-19-18-16-12-8-4-0 Him- 20-19-24-20-18-16-21-19-18
Sideboard- Out- 4x Stifle, 3x Daze. In- 2x Kataki, 2x Exalted Angel, 3x Magus of the Unseen.
Game 2-
Again we are smacking Each other around a lot, until I get an active Magus of the Unseen. I kill him with his Mana Crypt, Juggernaut and my Meddling Mage.
Life Totals Me- 20-19-18-13-8-3 Him- 20-14-7-5-0
(Note to any reader, if the next sections are a little shabbier, that is due to the house next to mine burning down in the middle of writing this report. Completely serious.)
Game 3-
We both feel the pinch. It is an extremely tight game. I force trades between Juggernauts and Factories/Grunts. After we wipe the board multiple times through combat, and we both get hardcore mana screws, I finally get a Grunt to stick and ride him to victory.
Life Totals Me- 20-19-18-17-16-15-14-9-4-3 Him-20-14-13-9-5-12-8-4-0
Games- 6-2-0 Matches 3-0
I’m getting all excited, and I just can’t hide it. My next match starts right away.
Round 4- Someone I forget from Team Perfect Scrubs, playing U/R Workshop aggro.
Game 1-
His Turn 1 Trinisphere fucks me up. I watch to see enough of what he was playing and then get into game 2.
Sideboard-Out-3x Ninja of the Deep Hours, 1x Swords to Plowshares (I think he had chalice), 3x Stormscape apprentice. In- 2x Kataki, War’s Wage, 2x Rushing River, 3x Magus of the Unseen.
Game 2-
Another Early Trnishere, but I kept a land with 3 fetchlands. I fetch all my basics and at the same time deny him of mana. I named Juggernaut with Meddling Mage to some avail.
Game 3- I beat the living and nonliving daylights out of him with multiple Grunts, Stifles and a Time walk.
Games- 8-3-0 Matches- 4-0-0
Well, I draw in over the course of the next 2 rounds, Eating a few subway pizzas, a few 6-inch Subs, and 4 or 5 donuts in the process. I am told by a little birdy that I was going to play a Control slaver player. This birdy song the wrong song. I played Kyle Leith Who beat me something unmerciful 2 games in a row.
Top 8- Kyle Leith, Oldschool TPS Game 1 involved a storm count of roughly 38, him having memory jarred and time twistered twice in 1 turn, while I never draw 1 force of will off them. Game 2 was tinker DSC with force backup and me not having swords.
Well, that’s it.
Props- Ray, for running a great event Kyle, for winning with his deck
Slops- to whoever stole those cards. Bastards.
(PS to mods, I still have some changes, but I just fell asleep on top of my Laptop. I would rather get most of it on there”

You know Dave Feinstein once at a whole birthday cake before we could tell him there was a stripper in it?
to Dave Feinstein! I played a similar deck day 2, packing 2x Stormscape apprentices and 1x more Stifle in the place of 3x Isamaru. I would in a heart beat replace the last Isamaru with apprentice, as I sided it in pretty much every time. I also was running the 4th grunt and 2x misdirection in the place of the dazes. after testing I might add the dazes back in, but I am unsure.

So some ideas I've gotten from this thread are as follows. 1 Tendrils, 1 Planar Void, More swamps, Diabolic Edict instead of Chainer's, 1 Braids.
and they are all bad ideas. this archetype will always be championed by ppl who love monoblack, but it will never be competitive. it barely was when keeper was dominant. OSE and rOSE put the nails in the coffin of sui by doing thier job better and still beating it. let the dead stay dead.

1- No 2- Yes 3- yes, if you use U/W/g. it has a much better matchup against all flavors of oath. 4- U/W/g threshold would be pretty hot. I recommend using SB true beliver against combo decks.

so exactly how is this deck better than the established benchmarks (U/G fish, U/W fish)?
it has exactly no counter base whatsoever. this deck is wide open other than a few duresses. this deck is running alot of the same cards as hatcher's "Hate.dec" without the good counterbase. I recommend looking up the build.

no way, if you pull those restrictions it makes it easy to minimize colors like in 5-color. this format would be too easy if you could cut corners with multicolor cards or hybrid/split cards.
I have about 8 players around here and 5 of them are going to waterbury, so I am trying to get enough support to do a stairwell side event day 1 or 2.

Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Rainbow stairwell, like skittles with rare cards
|
on: March 27, 2006, 06:22:17 pm
|
here are the rules for rainbow stairwell.
1- No gold cards, hybrid cards or split cards. Now it gets hard. 2- We use the legacy banned/restriced lists, with Time vault added. 3- 10 dual lands (any duals, pains, shocks, bounclands, ETC), 5 fetchlands (mirage/onslaught) and 2 of each basic land. 4- Cards in casting costs of 1-6 in each color and artifacts. (yes this makes a 61 card deck)
the awsome part of this format is the difficulty in making a deck coherant enough to win. This format has viable control, aggro, prison and combo decks. for example, here are my aggro and control decks.
Doomhed's Control
Artifact 1- Sensei's Divining Top 2- Sun Droplet 3- Vedalken Shackles (this card is gonna be cut for something better) 4- Darksteel Reactor (for shits and giggles) 5- Minds Eye (SOOOO good) 6- Duplicant (Ditto) Black 1- Dark Ritual 2- Nezumi Graverobber 3- Necromancy 4- Nekrataal/Barter in blood 5- Woebringer Demon 6- Skeletal Vampire (bit of a token theme in this deck) Blue 1- Chain of Vapor 2- Remove Soul (this is an open slot) 3- Propaganda 4- Collective Retraint (Chinese Foil...lol) 5- Meloku the Clouded Mirror 6- Arcanis the Omnipotent Green 1- Oxidize 2- Sylvan Library 3- Eternal witness 4- Nullmage Advocate 5- Deranged Hermit 6- Nemata Grove guardian Red 1- Fireball 2- Rolling Thunder 3- Browbeat 4- Flametongue Kavu 5- Shard Pheonix 6- Reyusei, the falling star White 1- Enlightened Tutor 2- Disenchant 3- Ghostly Prison 4- Wrath of God 5- Blinding Angel (open slot) 6- Exaulted Angel Lands 10x Original Dual lands 5x Onslaught Fetchlands 5x Basic Lands 5x Snow-Covered Basics
Doomhed's Aggro Sliver
This one is still under construction, so there are some open gaps.
Artifact- 1- Metallic Sliver 2- Umezawa's Jitte 3- Proteus Machine 4- Riptide Laboratory 5- Coat of Arms 6- Brass Herald Black- 1- Disembowel 2- Clot Sliver 3- Spectral Sliver 4- Toxin Sliver 5- Dregs of Sorrow 6- Blue 1- Soothsaying 2- Winged Sliver 3- Mnemonic Sliver 4- Shifting Sliver 5- Synapse Sliver 6- Overwhelming Intellect Green 1- Natural Selection 2- Muscle Sliver 3- Horned Sliver 4- 5- Brood Sliver 6- Red 1- Fireball 2- Heart Sliver 3- Blade Sliver 4- Magama Sliver 5- 6- White 1- Plated Sliver 2- Talon Sliver 3- Armored Sliver 4- Essence Sliver 5- Ward Sliver 6- Akroma's Vengeance
The things that attract me to this format over skittles are-
I have rare cards, therefore I like rare cards. With the casting cost restrictions it is alot harder to build a good deck, requiring more creativity in deckbuilding. You can't build a viable prison deck without rare cards.
Have fun Doomhed

It's not that the Dazes are better. It's just that the Mages are extremely vulnerable. Plenty of Goblin decks run 4 REB's or more not to mention the large amount of removal they already have. In my experience the UW investment isnt worth it.
I've been playing around with your deck and am going to suggest a few changes. I hope that I don't sound arrogant but the mana-base felt unwieldy. Proposed changes:
-1x Tundra +1x Plains (or extra fetch) I love the Chants and I know you do too. -1x Mox Emerald +1x Basic Island Brainstorms are extremely important in the deck. -1x Windswept Heath +1x Flooded Strand These can now fetch every land in the deck including the island
I've also run into a fair amount of mana-flooding with the 21 sources that you're running. Just a note. Sideboard: -4x Ground Seal -1x Psionic Blast These cards might have been just a meta choice (you didnt say). These cards are basically redundant and can be replaced with something for the meta.
Still. Props for the high finish. I hope you continue the good work on the deck; I'm also a believer that the deck is underplayed.
Well, there is alot to cover here, so this may take a few mintues. First off, you need 21 sources. this deck has extremely demanding color requirements, which strain even the tightest manabase. this is also why you cannot run basics. I ran basics @ a the beanie exchange with another teammate the week before waterbury. I lost 4 games to color screw by dawing basics in opening hands and in general drawing them. Wastelands do suck, but basics are not versitile enough for the deck. Mox Emerald was really great all day, being an on-color way to help drop a turn 1 Null rod. The honest truth is that this deck cannot afford basics of any kind. The Mana Flooding will happen sometimes, but the deck needs the sources against Stax. Also dont forget the Wastelanding of your own lands to obtain threshold....I did that at least 5 times day 1 alone...... it single handedly beat the englishman. The Ground seals were for the control slaver matchup, which without them can be difficult. With waterbury being in the NE, I assumed there would be a good smattering of CS.....unfortuneately, ppl actually learned from thier mistakes last time and didn't play it. Gary=Sad panda. We had a rock solid 14 card SB, and we wanted a 15th card. I had 2 beta Psionic Blasts begging to be played with, so we put it in on a dare. It was good, but not good enough to stay. I also kinda wanted People to freak out thinking it was a legitimate attempt @ a SB card. I ran the Heaths as a more of to keep ppl from Killing my fetches with Needles.....no one expects me to run mostly heaths, so they many times name strand with needle when I have used 1 of the 2 already, thinking I have 3 left. it happens in tight matches when they are looking for something to name with the 2nd needle (after wasteland). Sadly, I wish I could post the newest build, but we are planning a trip to the Double P9 in the Down Dirty, so I can't let that out

From Countering wastelands to giving quick threshold, to gaining me more mana of the appropriate color, Gush was phenominal all day. I actually was happier with it than I was with Ancestral (who didnt show up most of the day). If it werent restricted, I would be running 4.
Honestly, I would never side out the mages. In this matchup you need the warm bodies. the dazes are not as good because all thier threats cost so little. Day 2 I sided The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale, which helped against the 2 aggro decks I played.
MD annuls were great at one time, as were misdirections, but our Love of Orim's chant is well founded. Orim has done us good. There is nothing like time walking 2-3 times per game to screw up an opponant. hell, we are looking for ways to wedge a 4th in.

the cards were stolen after we got back to RI. we were @ dennys and they disappeared somewhere between us leaving and me getting my cards home. they were either left on the table and swiped before I made it back there to check (which was not a very long time span @ all), or someone who rode with me took them. since both myself and one of my teammates are nearly 100% sure I carried them out to the car, I dont know. All I know is the enitre deck has alot of very uncommon and peculiar card that are gonna be harder to move than usual, since most of RI hates foreign cards.
My stax matchup has alot to do with 2 things- playskill and speed. In general, there are not too many stax players who are as good with thier deck as I am with Guano. I live, breathe, eat and sleep this deck. I have been told I have said "meddling mage naming burning wish" in my sleep. your main goal is to abuse early chants as time walsk to stall their setup, then only counter the following cards- Chalice for 1/2 or smokestack. everything else you can deal with.
Believe it or not, the ground seals were not for dragon (although I sometime bring them in against superior dragon players). I eat dragon alive. MD I have 4 stifles/swords and null rods. SB I have rays and BEB. seals are for control slavery, workshop aggro, and U/B fish/Sui matchups. CS and workshop aggro see play in the NE and can wreck my deck without the proper support. U/B fish/sui uses withered wretch, which hoses a major componant of this deck, the extremely Early threshold factor of Time walking with chants. Hell, the main reason we use no black lotus is that we dont like null rod getting welded away, and the 3rd mox allows for even more broken openings as a conisitant mana source.
the truth of the matter is, there is nothing in the deck you usually dont want to draw other than lands and there are only 21 sources in the deck. this deck is a topdeck machine, as there are ton of cards maindeck to break every type of game wide open.
Gifts is where knowing your opponant is needed. you need to board Bebs and ground seals against pyroclasm/fusillade and recoup. you need to bring out 2 wastelands for the other null rod and orim's chant. you essentilly become thier worst nightmare post board. since you take game 1 a majority of the time, you need to hate yer way into a 2nd win at any cost.
And englishman, thanx! i'll fix the report.

Hallo all.
It’s been a long time since I have put up some decent numbers at a major Vintage event, so I have decided to write a report for it this time. I was playing the Penultimate Aggro/prison build, U/W/G fish, AKA Birdshit, AKA Batshit or Guano. My team has been working on a list since last January and we used it to place 1 member (Brian Rozzero) into the top 8 @ waterbury VII. The work we did on this deck changed the way it plays dramatically. Without further rambling, here is the list we used:
Guano, AKA Batshit
Manabase (21)- 1x Mox Sapphire 1x Mox Pearl 1x Mox Emerald 1x Strip Mine 1x Savannah (Awesome all day) 2x Windswept Heath 3x Flooded Strand 3x Tropical Island 4x Tundra (Rozzero played with a 6th fetch replacing 1) 4x Wasteland
Beaters (11) 4x Meddling Mage 4x Nimble Mongoose 3x Werebear (Wish we had room for the 4th)
Other Spells (28) 4x Force of Will 4x Stifle (Insane all day long) 4x Brainstorm 4x Swords to Plowshares 3x Daze 3x Orim's Chant (Also insane) 3x Null Rod 1x Ancestral Recall 1x Time Walk 1x Gush
Sideboard 4x Ground Seal 4x Blue Elemental Blast 4x Ray of Revelation (Better than I expected, but mainly on day 2) 1x Null Rod 1x Orim's Chant 1x Psionic Blast (Rozzero used the 4th werebear)
Well, on to the report. I apologize for not having names for everyone, but my notes have disappeared.
Round 1- Unknown, playing either TPS or gifts.
Game 1- Turn 1 Tinker DSC, I force pitching Daze, he has the force backup and I cannot find a Swords. SB- -2 Daze, +1 Null Rod, +1 Orim's Chant
Game 2- I Stifle his turn 1 fetch, turn 2 Meddling Mage naming Tinker, turn 3 Meddling Mage naming Tendrils of Agony.
Game 3- Turn 2 tinker DSC, I cannot find a Swords.
Matches- 0-1-0 Games- 1-2-0
I was obviously not very happy, but I kept my spirits high and proclaimed, "I'm just gonna win out till last round".
Round 2- N00b, playing VERY bad Burning Slaver
Game 1- He drops turn 1 Glimmervoid, Lotus Petal, Sol Ring, Welder. I drop turn 1 Tundra, Pearl, Null Rod. Turn 2 I Swords his Welder and go to town with Nimble, Werebear and Mage.
SB- +1 Null Rod, -1 Werebear
Game 2- He goes turn 1 Watery Grave, Ancestral, Ruby, Chalice for zero. I drop consecutive Nimbles and Swords a Welder, obtaining quick threshold on the backs of Wastelands, Stifles and Orim's Chants. I stifle the trigger on a Triskelion and win the game.Â
Matches- 1-1-0 Games- 3-2-0
Round 3 - J.P. Meyer, Playing U/W/B Fish with Confidant, FEATURE MATCH
Game 1- I keep a great opener with turn 1 Ancestral, which resolves. I Stifle a fetch and Swords a few creatures. I keep anything other than Confidant off the board, because Confidant does a lot of work for me. I overrun him with Nimbles and Werebears.
SB- -2 Null Rod, +1 Psionic, +1 Chant
Game 2- He opens with Savannah Lions and Isamaru turn 1. I cannot keep up.
Game 3- I early rush with 2 Nimbles on turn 1. J.P. is getting flooded on basic Plains and starts discarding cards. I lay down a Meddling Mage naming Savannah Lions. He gets down some black mana and starts pumping out guys. He swings sending me to 10 and I do the same. He reveals a force with his confidant and I Orim’s Chant with kicker. Next turn I swing in with a Bear, 2 Nimbles and a Mage. He chumps. He draws and extends his hand.
Matches- 2-1-0 Games- 5-4-0
Since there was about 20 minutes left in the round, I go watch my lackey play a great 3rd game against Ultima. He was so worked up about playing Ultima that he was shaking after the match.
Round 4- Ultima, playing TPS with Drains
Game 1- I cast Chant and Stifle a Tendrils with storm of 11. I win shortly thereafter.
SB- +1 Null Rod, +1 Chant, +1 Ray. –3 Daze.
Game 2- I lay turn 1 Null Rod, turn 2 Meddling Mage naming Tinker. He hardcasts Memory Jar after bouncing my Null Rod and I Stifle it.
Matches- 3-1-0 Games- 7-4-0
Round 5- Friendly British Guy from Myriad Games playing Bomberman.
This guy was really fun to play, but I had an annoying individual hovering around the table during 2/3 the match, commenting on my deck contents from playing one of my teammates earlier.
Game 1- He went turn 1 tinker DSC, which I Plowed. I then won the game before I could be sure what he was playing. I saw alot of acceleration and drains/force, so I assumed he was playing TPS with drains like Ultima.
SB- Out 1 Brainstorm, 1 Wasteland (he had a lot of basics), in 1 Chant 1 Null Rod
Game 2- I don’t draw anything relevant and lose to Auriok Salvagers after a Rebuild on my Null Rods.
Game 3- I lay down savage beats, Strip his 2nd Island and lay Null Rod, then get a Meddling Mage naming Salvagers. I Swords a Colossus and still am laying down the beats. In the last turn he had before death he tried to Chain of Vapor one of my Nimble Mongeese. Again, Mongoose beats for the win.
Matches- 4-1-0 Games- 9-5-0
Round 6- Whiny Kid playing Grimlong
This kid complained about how my team single handedly knocked all but one of his friends out of T16 contention. He also complained about everything in the match. “You couldn’t have any more main deck hate against me than you have. And the personal favorite “You’re so lucky.
Game 1- I beat him insanely fast. If he hadn’t cast a Necropotence I would have thought he was Oath.
SB- out 2x Swords, in 1x Null Rod, 1x Chant
Game 2- I keep Force, Brainstorm, Chant, fetch land, Swords, Sapphire, Stifle. He casts Duress turn 1, taking Force. I draw Force. He tries to hardcast Bargain, I Force. He flips out. The game goes on to the point where I have a Mage naming Tendrils of Agony and I have a Nimble on the board with 1 card less than threshold. He pops the Jar successfully but has very limited mana. He goes for the Will and I Force pitching Daze. He is out of mana and is very unhappy.
Matches- 5-1-0 Games- 11-5-0
Round 7- Nice Guy playing Oath
Game 1- I keep Force, Stifle, Daze, Waste, Strip, fetch on the play. I keep him from ever getting enough mana to do anything. He finally gets the mana to Oath and I Orim’s Chant him and Force it.
SB- in 3 Ray of Revelation, 1 Orim’s Chant, out 3 Null Rod, 1 Brainstorm
Game 2- I make a lot of stupid errors and he gets the game.
SB- in 1 Ray of Revelation, out 1 Daze
Game 3- I get a Meddling Mage naming Oath and ride him to victory.
Round 8- Brendon Ward, Gifts Oath
I am in 10th after last round, he is 8th. We can both safely draw in. So we do. Coincidentally, he was the teammate of the Grimlong player from earlier. The only one my team didn’t eliminate.
Matches- 6-1-1 Games- 11-5-1 (19 points)
Top 16- Corey Mann, playing Gobbos/g Corey is a really great guy. I have played him and his brother in many tournies over the years and they are always fun to play against.
Game 1- I Waste and Stifle every land I can and I use every Jedi mind trick I got to keep myself alive. I was holding lands for a majority of the game. I cannot find a Werebear in time to save my ass.
SB- in 4 BEB, 1 Psionic Blast, 1 Orim’s Chant, out 3 Null Rod, 3 Daze Game 2- He gets the most insane opening ever and I cannot get a Force online. I get overrun. He had the REB for my BEB, and I just died.
Overall I am very happy with the build. I believe it is the most underplayed deck in Vintage. If I were to play this deck today, the last card in the SB would be a Hydroblast. This deck is at its best against combo, control and aggro/control decks. It has hard times against good 5C Stax players. I was banking on not too many good Stax players showing up. If you expect a lot of Stax, you can SB 4 Sacred Grounds in the place of the 4th Null Rod, 4th BEB, Psionic/Hydro, and 4th Ray.
Props- Great tourney, some great players, and a great jacuzzi. Nimble Mongoose, for being INSANE all day long.
Slops- Werebear for not showing up game 1 of my T16 match. A lot of whiny children (WTF was it with 13 yr olds @ this one?), no hot lesbian action, and Mixing Mike for being a wussbag and not showing up.
Also, to any players living in RI, if you see anyone in possession of my fuzzy deckbox, email me. There is a $200 reward for information leading to the party who stole this deck. Not only is it missing, but another deckbox was also taken.
Missing Cards of note- 4x S-Chinese meddling mages 4x Italian Force of will 4x French Orim’s chants 3x Unlimited Tropical islands 1x German WB tundra 2x Foreign Windswept Heath 1x S-Chinese Flooded Strand 4x Japanese Nimble mongeese 3x Japanese Werebears 3x foreign Ice age brainstorms 1x foil stifle 4x Foil Ray of Revelation 4x Japanese Ground Seals 4x Asian BB BEB 4x Signed Ice age Swords to plowshares 4x Korean Wastelands 1x German BB Strip mine

If I am even debating playing sanctioned vintage during the time I would normally be driving to waterbury or already there enjoying a brew and a sauna, I would like to know what kind of prize structure we are getting at these events.
also, that link does not say how much the tourney costs to enter or what time they start. these are details one normally posts on a tournament announcement. thank you.
BTW, I am specifically referring to the friday events, which will most likely have your highest turnout.

Eternal Formats / Creative / Parfait, modified From 11/26 list

I have always had a soft spot in my heart for parfait, as a white control deck was the first deck I built all by myself (Swords, wrath, serra angel, moats, thunder spirits, tabernacle at pendrall vale, ETC). when I saw the deck that made T8 on 11/26, I was quite interested. The card that really made me happy was Lightning Helix. This card has been Extremely useful in both extended and legacy versions of scepter-chant. I have played parfait extensively, but I have not played it as of late much. His Build- Maindeck (62 cards): 3 Goblin Charbelcher 4 Isochron Scepter 1 Scrabbling Claws 3 Scroll Rack 2 Zuran Orb
2 Lightning Helix 2 Blood Moon
1 Balance 1 Decree of Justice 2 Disenchant 4 Swords to Plowshares 2 Argivian Find 1 Aura of Silence 1 Enlightened Tutor 2 Humility 4 Land Tax 1 Moat 4 Orim's Chant
1 Sol Ring 1 Lotus Petal 1 Mana Vault 1 Mox Diamond
2 Mountain 16 Plains
Sideboard (15): 1 Abeyance 1 Abolish 1 Blood Moon 1 Decree of Justice 2 Fire/Ice 2 Pyroblast 2 Pyroclasm 3 Rack and Ruin 1 Scrabling Claws 1 Tormod's Crypt
as you can see, there are few changes that have to happen. first, this deck needs only 60 cards. I also believe it needs another helix, as it is more useful early games against aggro/aggro control than the belcher is. belcher also dies to null rod, another reason why I am cutting one. the scrabbling claws would be better off as a phyrexian furnace or tormod's crypt. the 2nd disenchant has become a seal of cleansing (to allow enlightened tutor to grab it). I also cut 1 humility, as wrath will do the job and more. My Build Parfait
2 Goblin Charbelcher 4 Isochron Scepter 1 Phyrexian Furnace/ Tormod’s Crypt 3 Scroll Rack 2 Zuran Orb
3 Lightning Helix 2 Blood Moon
1 Balance 1 Decree of Justice 1 Disenchant 1 Seal of Cleansing 4 Swords to Plowshares 1 Wrath of God 1 Aura of Silence 1 Enlightened Tutor 1 Humility 1 Moat 4 Land Tax 4 Orim's Chant
1 Sol Ring 1 Lotus Petal 1 Mana Vault 1 Mox Diamond 1 Mox Ruby 1 Mox Pearl 1 Black Lotus
2 Mountain 13 Plains
Sideboard (15): 1 Abeyance 1 Abolish 1 Blood Moon 1 Decree of Justice 2 Fire/Ice 2 Red Elemental blast 2 Pyroclasm 3 Rack and Ruin 1 Phyrexian Furnace 1 Tormod's Crypt
What other ideas could we borrow from? this deck is heavily influenced by scepter-chant and oldschool parfait. I can see this decks better matchups being aggro/control, Dragon, Stax and Oath. it seems its biggest issues would be with gifts and possibly control slavery. I am thinking of a possible conversion sideboard into my old favorite parfait archetype, Confinement Parfait- Possible Sideboard 3-4x Solitary Confinement 3x Squee, Goblin Nabob 1x Goblin Trenches (was always good in that version...might be suboptimal)
Also, I am willing to consider almost any changes and I am open to pretty much any new ideas available. Any thoughts? questions? flames? Â (Mods, still working on post, saving as I go because I have a buggy comp)
