1  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: T.O. Report: BLACK GOLD DISASTER on: September 14, 2010, 10:54:03 pm
I was planning on attending this, but then a 5th seat opened up for a road trip to the GP. It was a chance to see my brother Josh and his wife, and other friends including Lou and Weeden, so in the end I had to bail on the Vintage event. I will try hard to make the next one. Don't give up Carl!
2  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: *1st place* Meandeck MUD - Black Gold 7/18 on: July 21, 2010, 11:24:22 am
Nice report buddy! Welcome back to cardboard-crack!

As always, it was a blast at the event, and the best part was everyone rolling over to The Draft afterward to grub. It was great to catch up with everyone and bullshit etc.

Cheers!!
3  Eternal Formats / Western/Pacific U.S. / Re: BLACK GOLD - Vintage Proxy Event on 7/18 on: July 17, 2010, 10:52:12 am
Missed the last one but I'm super excited to sling some power around. Cant wait to see the crew (mostly) reassembled for this one. Pack your mana drain hate its gonna be 2006 all over again!!
4  Archives / Tournament Announcement Forum / Re: Vintage Proxy Event - BLACK GOLD 5/23 on: May 06, 2010, 12:44:14 pm
Glad to see you upped the proxy count for this one Carl, as it should help bring a few more people who wouldn't otherwise have had any interest (who want's to play sub-optimal decklists anyway?).

I won't be able to make this one tho, but would love to see these proxy events become a monthly thing. You know my thoughts here Carl: hold these often so people don't forget about how much fun they had at the last one!

Just wanted to say that it was a blast to meet so many people from the vintage community, and I hope to see everyone again next year. Cheers!

Unfortunately because of my recent move to California I will not be able to afford to make the trip to Gencon. I'm totally fucking bummed about it.

I hope everyone has a great time, and I guess there's always next year.

bummed to hear you won't be there buddy! looking forward to seeing everyone who makes it - cheers!

Anyone who wants to test on Saturday for this let me know!!
11  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Sleight of Hand on: March 16, 2009, 05:58:35 pm
i tested it in Ad Naus but found it was too much of a tempo loss, and i almost never want to fetch out island in that deck - bassically it just isn't needed in that deck, as the cards you would cut are soo much better than sleight (dark confidant).
12  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [Results & Lists] Grand Prix Chicago Side-Event, March 8th on: March 11, 2009, 11:22:14 am
Also, props to Lou and Duncan for the top 8... way to rep CO guys!

CO is Colorado I suppose? Sorry to disappoint you, but I represented either Europe, the Netherlands or Amsterdam in this tournament Very Happy Thanks for the props though Razz

Wow, I totally thought you were the duncan from CO! My bad, but congrats anyways (Go Amsterdam Smile)

Vroman,

Props for the top 8 - sorry for the lack of awesomeness for all you non-beta sapphire winners.

Glad to see you slinging workshops around again... hopefully we get a chance to battle again (Are you going to Gencon?).

Peace!

Travis

Wow fu&K yeah, way to go Brett! also, mad props to Vroman for his return with Uba Stax (man that deck is a beating!). brett is one of the slowest players I know... even when we are doing a fun draft at his house he still takes like 4 min a turn LOL! I still love the guy, and he remains one of the best players i've have had the pleasure of loosing to. Also, props to Lou and Duncan for the top 8... way to rep CO guys!

I've been loaned a full set of power, so I look forward to collecting my fresh Ancestral Recall on the 22nd.

Thanks for keeping Colorado Vintage alive Carl!

Sweet! 1 less dredge player!
17  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Myriad Games Vintage - February 21st, 2009 on: February 27, 2009, 04:05:47 pm
usually, you play turn 1 or 2 null rod, then you strip some land, then you beat with bad creatures winning the majority of matches on the back of null rod.

Not so difficult to imagine.

LOL - yeah I imagine that's how most games go... I guess i was wondering what he played against, how the card choices worked out (Reef Shaman?) etc. etc.

why would anyone play this vs. non-mono U fish (other than wanting to actually play fish!)
18  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Myriad Games Vintage - February 21st, 2009 on: February 27, 2009, 11:54:34 am
that merfolk list looks interesting - I would love to read a report from the pilot if he would be willing to write one.

Thanks!

Ray,

This sounds rad, I wish I could be there.... I'm trying my hardest to be ready for Gencon this year, which means no Chicago and unfortunatly no TMD Open either, but one of these days I will make it out there for sure - I know Fuckin' Lou would be down for a road trip, and I'm sure we can round up some more of the colorado guys, but not this time Sad

Thanks anyway for helping to keep the scene alive!

Bonus Math Question:

Prove that the short exact sequence of Z-modules:

            2      pi
0 --> Z --> Z --> Z/2Z --> 0

does not split (where 2 denotes multiplication by 2, pi is the canonical projection map, and Z is the integers)

There isn't anything scheduled at Time Warp for a bit, but keep checking the tournie forums, as we will post the next event there. I may try to hold an event for a signed unlimited jet but no plans yet....

stay tuned!

22  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Time Warp Boulder, CO Top 8 Decklists 01/04/09 on: January 16, 2009, 12:00:23 pm
There was twenty nine people. I did not mean to dick Trav over by any means. I posted in his thread for his last top 8 that I would eventually plus your preliminary list is in there already. Sorry Trav.

Brennen

No worries buddy, it's my fault for not telling you to hold back! Oh well, I still think people will play TPS over Ad Naus (untill they test Ad Naus Smile )
23  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Time Warp Boulder, CO Top 8 Decklists 01/04/09 on: January 15, 2009, 10:56:28 am
the SB is missing 2 pithing needle.

Gifts is stupid good and i would never cut it. i love giftsing for ad naus, acall, demonic, vampiric, or just 4x tutor, or mana, etc, etc.

intuition seems kinda good too, needs testing.

i was hoping this list wouldn't have been published Sad
24  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: 1st place - MOX JET - Boulder, Colorado on: January 13, 2009, 06:10:48 pm
I keep looking at the bobs in your list and keep saying they cant be that good.  Then I look for replacement cards and realize there arent any cards that seem better than bob.  Then I test the deck with bob for a while and realize he is very good in the deck.

I still cant wrap my head around the fact that bobs are good in the deck, even with the proof before my eyes.  Awesome job putting them in and winning with them, I never even would have considered them in a deck this fast.

Yeah, BOB adds a whole different angle of attack for the deck - FISH STORM FTW!!!
25  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [FREE article] The 2008 Vintage Year in Review on: January 13, 2009, 05:54:19 pm
Steve,

Really enjoied your articles (WOTC and SCG). Thanks for the kind words  Very Happy

I'm just a little concerned people will start testing Ad Naus some more now, and it will start catching on in other metagames... once people realize how sick the card is, the restriction timer will start ticking down for Ad Naus.

Prediction: 2009 year in review will discuss the restriction of Ad Naus @_@

Thanks again,

Travis
26  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: 1st place - MOX JET - Boulder, Colorado on: January 05, 2009, 11:10:37 am
Steve,

I don't think any of the top 8's for these events have been posted... I know Ed has been really busy with trying to leave for his Florida Trail trip, and furthermore we have not had more than 32 players for these events since the first one, so I don't think he was intending to post them.

I just won the Time Vault on the event on the 4th, using a similar list from the first event (+/- a few cards). I would post my list, but due to the request of teammates I must respectfully refuse.

Thanks!

Travis

I'm not willing to believe that ad nas is gonna take three in a row. It's not doing well anywhere else in the world, after all.

Thats cuz nobody plays the deck Surprised

Count me in! Better watch out cuz I got the sick techmology for the dredge mirror!

Lol. You don't play dredge. Therefore, you must be saying you are playing Ad Nauseam. Zing!

LOL!

Shit I told you not to talk about our MWS testing

30  Archives / Tournament Announcement Forum / Re: P9 series in Boulder CO! Timetwister tourny sunday dec 7th! on: November 23, 2008, 02:28:14 pm
Timetwister is not the most desireable/played card, but the point of the tourney should be to get together with friends and catch a bu..., I mean have a good time and play some Magic. Am I wrong? I don't see any reason to be whining about $15. I just wish I was there to play.

What's up to all my homies in the crew.

Good luck Trav.

Josh thanks for the support - wish you could make this one!

I am fine with paying 15 for a twister, as it will be a blast slinging moxes all day. I think the whole point is to just try and build the scene and make sure that we keep holding these events.

I heard from Ed yesterday we may be graced with the presence of CHRISTOPHER RUSH at this event, but nothing is finalized yet...
