Jake Gans is becoming kind of my personnal hero, top8ing with DRAGON in 2011 ; he got balls. (even if he get lucky, he still brought DRAGON to the tournament) Could it be that Dragon is better than Ichorid ? :O  Sweet Minus Six list - I gotta give it a try some day.

Sweet top8, must I say. Smile

Although there was an awful lot of Lodestone Golems in the room. Like, way too much. I was playing Dredge, and I got owned. :p

11  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: DCI, if you must ban more cards, please make it Bazaar not Bridge on: August 04, 2008, 09:09:02 pm
Well. You say consistant turn 1 uncounterable wins ? Surprised

I read your posts, and I got a really strong WTF impression, like "Is he joking ?".

That doesn't make any sense to me ATM. Is Ichorid winning all tournaments and putting + 4 in each top 8 ? Not at all ! So why do you want so bad to ban the engine ? And BTW, banning Bazaar would kill lots of other decks, and the secondary market, something Wizards isn't quite likely to do. I mean, do you actually play Vintage ? There was 1 Ichorid in the last tournament (Worlds) Top 8, and top 4 was TPS - Slaver - Slaver - TPS. And this is after the Brainstorm and Ponder axing. What do you want ? A return to casual Vintage like 1996 ? Man, Shop isn't anywhere near the top of the standings. Heck, Belcher is more threatening.

Trying not to be rude here, but your posts really are annoying. they MUSN'T ban Bazaar, unless they want to destroy what's left of themselves.

EDIT : Oh, I got ninja'd by Stephen. This post was directed towards Clark Kant, just to be sure... :p
12  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [report] Mox Ruby Tournament in Utrecht 14th place with Slaver on: August 02, 2008, 04:33:12 pm
Yop
I was there with Ichorid, actually, the sole Ichorid player, I took 5th because I am too stupid to think about an ID in last round, well, that was a nice tournament, even with the very low turnout.

Props to Bram ! Smile

I played against Urw Landstill (he ended up 6th IIRC), a painters deck, another painters deck, a storm combo, an anopther painters deck... 3-2 going 5th with the best OGW, I should have really really do the ID in the last round to lock in 4th.
/quit whinig ^^

Oh, and there was massive Ichorid hate. Surprised

Well, I do know it's not exactly what TMD is all about, but, now we have the "breakdown" of the event, can you please posts the top4/top8 decklists sir ? That'll really be appreciated. Smile

And... I hope the kinda low turnout isn't something that'll become the norm... Small vintage tournaments are cool, but bigger ones are usually cooler. Razz
Still, nice to have some feedback on this. Smile

16  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [report] Breda with Trinket Slaver (1st) on: July 01, 2008, 07:18:39 am
GG to you and your excellent Slaver build (even if it's not yours anyways) Smile
Seems that being able to fetch Crypt easily was nice for you; at last I remember it being quite good against Ichorid. I'm happy that 37 players were there too, tournaments are good when there is people to play, obv. Smile

About the sideboard : Why the single Misdirection ? It seems like the random 1-off Rock Lee touch to me, it's suspicious Very Happy

Yup, all hail Fury Wink
I'm but an humble messenger in all this case... Wink Anyway, the white splash seems really strong, Abeyance IS a nice card and, on an unrelated topic, Oona is quite the house.
Mulldrifters are just the icing on the cake, and the cake was already a tasty morsel - Dragon viable again, sure it is. Smile

Vintage is the one place that allows people to play pet decks for years.

I lol'd. This is casual dude, not Vintage; I mean competitive Vintage. Any "format" where you can play the same goddam deck for more than 2 years cannot be called a format at all imho. The DCI did a bold move, but it's a move in the smart direction, ie making deckbuilding relevant again, instead of ability to netdeck and goldfish.

BTW, I think you really need to relax and take a step back. Not to play the moderator here, but you really are an annoyance, sir. So, if you are not happy with the DCI's choices, go sell your cards and play Standard, where you can netdeck at will.

Man, they are giving us a huge chance to innovate, truely, the format, and what I see ? A bunch of whiners. That's not cool. :/

2.  (Recommended) Quit bitching and start working on new decks.

Now, that's a good comment. Thanks. Whoever you may be, thanks a lot. We need more people actually BUILDING decks and LESS cheap-ass haters/whiners/Chicken Littles.
20  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Brainstorm, Flash, Gush, Scroll, and Ponder Restricted on: June 02, 2008, 01:03:06 am
OMG if that means playing Leviat again ! Surprised
Form of the Dragon FTW !!!!

But still... Dredge is going to be quite the deck... And I don't think it's all that good for the format. Well, we'll see. I mean, yep, AK, TfK, etc... are still playable, but it's going to be extremely hard to play a blue based control deck without the "fixing" of Brainstorm. Or maybe just impossible. Oh, and Longish decks without Brainstorm AND Ponder ? No thanks. :/
21  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Brainstorm, Flash, Gush, Scroll, and Ponder Restricted on: June 02, 2008, 12:54:32 am
 Sad
That is bad. I hope on Friday they'll say it's June's Fool or something and unrestrict those Brainstorms and Ponders.
PONDER ?! WTF ! It's like they don't want us to draw cards, ever. Let's just dredge them...
22  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: ELD's Mox XIV Top 8 Lists and more on: May 30, 2008, 06:16:50 pm
Oh, thanks for the comment. I was becoming anxious about the health of the format with this top 8 chock full of Painters & Grindstone. Was looking like the DCI musn't restrict only Scroll, but Painter's Servant too. :p

Decklists are up there http://decklist.zmx.cc/. The site isn't yet finished, but what does work, like the total number of the 10 most played cards in any given tournament, is quite cool. And for this tournament, quite funky, too.
Quote
    *  32 Force of Will
    * 32 Brainstorm
    * 28 Leyline of the Void
    * 24 Gush
    * 23 Polluted Delta
    * 23 Flooded Strand
    * 20 Painter's Servant
    * 20 Merchant Scroll
    * 18 Underground Sea
    * 17 Volcanic Island
    * 16 Island
    * 15 Grindstone
    * 14 Pyroblast
    * 13 Mana Drain
    * 12 Ponder
    * 12 Red Elemental Blast

Anyway, a warped metagame is still a metagame, so the results, as distorted as they are, are results that are relevant; even if their relevance is just sayin' that Painters decks could be really popular and the NBT, or not. Wink Man...never ever thought I would be seein' that much goddam Grindstones in my entire life !
23  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Mox Pearl Proxy Tourney Manila, Philippines 5-25-08 on: May 30, 2008, 03:17:42 pm

Thanks a lot for the quickness of these results, that's appreciated when you work for 2 site databases Wink

Also, what a hell of a metagame was this ? Even Shay on MS Paint got me really really surprised. Didn't expect the deck to put such showings, it's totally out of control, or was it just specific to this tournament ? Anyways, good field nonetheless, when you see the names players. :p

25  Archives / Tournament Announcement Forum / Re: Bazaar of Moxen -18 may france- more than 16 pieces of p9 to win !!! on: May 18, 2008, 05:16:39 pm
Not to bump the thread without purpose, but I have to say that the event is mostly over here and there was an unpowered Flash in the top8, piloted by a guy who had gotten into typ1 fro like 2 weeks Smile

A split for the finals is running I think...

Also, 197 players. Yes, 3 short of two hundreds, but hey ! Smile
26  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Improving on Deez Noughts on: May 17, 2008, 01:47:38 am
As far as the color splash issue goes, I think that White shouldn't be overlooked. Recently, in France, an invitationnal only tournament was won by a Deez Nought deck splashing not Green but White, its pilot stating that Green wasn't all this good, and if you just want a damn beater you should at least give a shot to the good old Jotun Grunt. It seems to have been a great choice for him, since he went to win the whole thing, defeating Tyrant Oath in the Finals, and Flash before.
Sensei's Divining Top is in there, too.

Here's the list, if you don't mind me posting a White-splashed list :

Just sayin' that this splash could be quite good; depends on the meta. Hope to give you some ideas on how to "improve" this already really good deck.
27  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Premium Article] So Many Insane Plays - The Best Unrestricted Spells in Vintage on: May 14, 2008, 03:44:08 am
Hey, nice subject to write on Steve ! Smile
Ok, since I don't have premium, I haven't read it, but according to the stats here http://decklist.zmx.cc/ for the months of March first...

(number/cards)

1. 512  Force of Will
2. 480  Brainstorm
3. 395  Leyline of the Void
378  Polluted Delta
297  Flooded Strand
293  Underground Sea
278  Island
4. 242  Merchant Scroll
227  Wasteland
5. 226  Duress
6. 171  Black Lotus
7. 165  Mana Drain
8. 163  Mox Sapphire
9. 160  Ponder
10. 159  Pithing Needle

So, for this month, it's FoW - Brainstorm - LotV - Scroll - Duress - Lotus - Drain - Sapphire - Ponder - Needle

Then, let's see for April :

1. 352  Force of Will
2. 345  Brainstorm
3. 288  Leyline of the Void
255  Polluted Delta
232  Flooded Strand
217  Underground Sea
192  Island
4. 187  Duress
5. 160  Merchant Scroll
128  Wasteland
6. 125  Ponder
7. 125  Gush
8. 120  Thoughtseize
9. 115  Mana Drain
10. 114  Tormod's Crypt

We got Fow - Brainstorm - LotV again, then Duress - Scroll - Ponder - Gush - Thoughtseize - Mana Drain and Crypt. There is some kind of pattern here. Wink

And for May :

1. 132 Leyline of the Void
2. 124 Force of Will
3. 124 Brainstorm
4. 103 Merchant Scroll
95 Polluted Delta
81 Underground Sea
5. 80 Gush
74 Flooded Strand
6. 62 Duress
57 Island
7. 56 Ponder
54 Tropical Island
8. 52 Thoughtseize
9. 49 Red Elemental Blast
46 Wasteland

The sample size is smaller, but we got : LotV - FoW - Brainstorm - Scroll - Gush - Duress - Ponder - Thoughtseize - ReB...

Based on theses recent results, one can safely say that FoW, Brainstorm, Gush, Scroll, Duress, are clearly the cards people play the most because Ubx decks are the bests (GaT, Flash, etc...)... Well, Painters may change that, but Vintage is a relatively stable format I think. Sure, these stats would be different if taken in mid-2005, but blue and black cards will always remain the top ones (or not :p).
This may not be the best spells in the game for all cases (besides that the sample size for May is really smal)l, but they shape the current metagame as they have shaped the past metagames too for FoW, Brainstorm, Duress, and alli.

My humble 2 cents... And I apologize for those bored by my lists. Wink

EDIT : Link for the total stats (like since 2002, with a gap between somewhere 2003 and 2007, sorry for that) : http://decklist.zmx.cc/decklist/card.php. Who's on top : FoW and Brainstorm, obv. !

Will the top 8 lists be posted (or can we see them on another site ?). Even if the turnout was small, lists are lists... Smile (I'm posting them on http://decklist.zmx.cc/ and the more tournaments we have, the better the database.)
