1  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] reviewing old school stasis on: October 24, 2006, 06:04:50 am
Someone in our area has been working on a UG Statis deck with Vinelasher Kudzu as its primary win condition. It uses the Time Spiral card Scryb Ranger in addition to Quiron Rangers to help maintain the Stasis lock and keep the Vinelasher Kudzu swinging.
Interesting combination.
How does Vinelasher behaves when playing fetch land and then searching for a land?
+2 +2?

It Gets +2/+2. It says when a land comes into play, not played.

One thing you have to give to the Mongrel, its one of the few (good) ceatures that can deal with Oath. May it be Akroma, Simic, razia ( razia is tough), the mongrel can kill and survive either. Heck, it can even block a DC with plenty of cards in hand... : )

All those creatures have flying (except DSC).
Obv Run Jump;)

I really like Elvish Spirit Guides in Red Green beats, as well as greens main weapon in my opinion, Root Maze. Troll Ascetic is a bit weak with no Elves or Birds for the second turn play, so if you want efficient CHEAP damage Rancor is great as well.

What I think:
-4 Troll
-3 Price of Progress
-1 Goblin Welder
+3 Root Maze
+4 Rancor
+1 Pyrostatic Pillar

However you need more creatures then, but just some thoughts:P
4  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: Repeal---Chalice Synergy on: July 30, 2006, 03:41:19 am
Sorry. I forgot to include moxen. Pearl, Sapphire and Lotus Definitely. Martyr has been extremely good for me, an uncounterble counter. The deck is slow and is more controlling than aggro so tapping out aggresively isn't always the best option.
Repeal Chalice could possibly go in a more broken deck such as gro, so either in a yawg will or in general you can bounce chalice, draw a card, make dryad fatter and drop all your moxlotus.
5  Eternal Formats / Creative / Repeal---Chalice Synergy on: July 29, 2006, 10:08:21 am
Repeal seems good against chalice at zero, but it can also work well with chalice at zero. Just throwing an idea into the air; against gifts and slaver decks, chalice can be better than null rod because it stops tinker targets. With repeal, even when your not on the play, you can drop chalice and bounce theyre mox in the same turn, basically acting as a cantrip that destroys one of they're moxen. Now it is still an issue that thirst for knowledge can pitch these, but can it provide tempo for a certain deck to make use of?
I've tried to incorporate it into a fish build even though I'm sick of fish and like drains Very Happy, but if you think it suits another deck better feel free to post about it. Martyr of Frost from Coldsnap is a great little card for slower builds of fish rather than lions and I also wanted to use it. Standstill is in, even though not played often now, I'm trying it over brainstorm.

4xRepeal
4xChalice
4xForce Of Will
4xStandstill
3x Stifle
2xSwords
1xAcall
1xTime Walk

4xMeddling Mage
4xMartyr of Frost
3xNinja of the Deep Hours
3xWaterfront Bouncer

As for the manabase, I was thinking along the lines of factories, 5 strips, 4 fetch 4 tundra (would play more feches but alot of stifle being played lately.)

The hardest matchup is aggro, but factories block most weenies and bouncers and swords help  a lot.
Sb depends on Meta, but seals, kataki, stormscape, jotun grunt etc.

Run Brainstorm, a main consistency reason to play blue, and 4-5 fetches.
7  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] Presenting the new UBW aggro Control on: June 22, 2006, 07:17:39 pm
Up your blue card count for force of will. 14 is clearly too little in my opinion when two of them are acall and walk, and four others your threats. Add the new jotun grunt for drekevak(3 grunts) and 4 brainstorm by dropping a drek and 3 other cards. Brainstorm is amazig in fish and rounds your curve.

I've played around with fish. I don't understand how people just run 4 bob, 4 mage, and 4 voidmage and expect to win with 12 guys.  Oath will laugh @ u, Tendrils will storm you turn 2 cause your only out is stifle, and even stax would crumple u with Crucible/strip and smokestack.  Fish is a deck with tons of hate, few creatures, slow clock and fragile manabase.  You need some kind of BIG creature like Negator or Psychatog or the Nantuko guy (need black mana).
IMO fish needs to start maindecking inferor cards like B2B, Arcane lab, etc. It just loses favor of even winning Game 1 without (<---LOL) having a fast win or those lock components.

Are you serious? Have you played fish before? How is Drekavac a good option to race your opponent??? Even Wretched Anurid is better than the creatures you choose, and he is almost totally unplayable. Breath Weapon's creatures do stuff to your opponent(Meddling Mage, Voidmage) and his spells are efficient at disrupting the opponent(Duress, Force). Drekavac and friends give you loss of card advantage, losing you threats. Try not to bag other peoples decks when they are clearly superior to yours.

Bouncer suits it much better. Two darkblast and two rushing river seem average to me over chalice, but if you say its always a dead draw, whatever. By the way I was Dreadnought Razz

You just seem to have all the answers no? Even though I thrashed you with my fish on MWS? I give you some pointers, and you say their not even viable... Please try peoples ideas even if YOU don't think they are viable. As you said you've just got back in to magic, so maybe what plays were so good back in the day aren't so good now. Unless Stasis makes a bold comeback Wink

look there are 5 ways to have 2 mana turn 1. Its like having 4 copies of something you really wanna draw early game. But i still would not run the apprentice just to make my ninja better. Im not investing mana on the ninja on turn 2. I think the confidant is better for that or a mage to immediatly effect the game. Or cast a brainstorm and improving your hand quality combining it with fetching. Nah there are better turn 2 plays than tapping out to draw a card. Besides the 1 drop has to attack and be unblocked aswell. I simply don't care about dropping the ninja turn 2. I care abuot dropping my confis and mages followed by some grave hate with grunt.
Look, both breathweapon and I are trying to help. Test out the ideas we present before making decisions such as one drops are just warping the deck for ninja. Ninja probably doesn't even fit in the deck. It has synergy with one card, the "grunt" and bouncing your own meddling mages SUCKS. Dark confidant will net you the same amount of cards at a lower cost the next turn if you don't ninjitsu him out as well. Drop Ninja and please, appreciate the ideas we give.

Why would i add more cards to make ninja better? He is not the key card in the deck but he has good synergy with my creatures.

Its not a matter of that. Consistently getting ninja out turn two is very strong. One drops help with your curve as well. With a 1 drop you pay in total for a 2/2 with in built curiosity 4, where as you cood be paying 3 and still having a stand alone threat in the 1/1.
13  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: [Deck] Presenting the new UBW aggro Control on: June 17, 2006, 07:29:58 am
If your running ninjaOTDH, I'd run at least four 1 drops. If your not a fan of vanilla creatures, ala Savannah lions, try out Stormscape Apprentice. He slows down oath pre-board and is efficient at stopping colossus, plus has the bonus of being blue for force. Ninja can come out turn 2 very strongly then.

I agree, Ninja needs a one drop, tho' Ication Javelineers would be my personal choice, removing Welders, Shamans, Swarms, Confidants, Ichorid/Ghoul and random fishies is quite good, and it has great synergy with Ninja.

As good as Ication javs are, I believe the 3 colour manabase needs the blue for force of will. You want to be consistently having the pitchable card in your hand ready for whatever vintage throws at you(alot more than t2 Wink)
