1  Eternal Formats / Ritual-Based Combo / Re: Doomsday (the Ritual approach) on: April 06, 2015, 09:02:55 pm

I'll just leave this IRC log here... Hola to my peps in #motl and #tmd for helping with this list. Including Jeek who is credited with the Beacon pile in 2004?

....

I think it was Billy Murano (SP? -The guy who made the hatching plans storm deck in standard) who gave the idea for the beacon kill to team Meandeck. Stephen Menendian has an article about it on Star City.

I worked on Meandeck Doomsday with JP Meyer, and created the Beacon kill on my own. Menendian left me out of the article and I've had a bug up my ass about it ever since. Wink

TMD's first post. (June 18, 2002) -from a milestone thread I found while looking around my old posts.
4  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / 10 year anniversary of TMD? on: February 05, 2012, 01:39:10 am
TheManaDrain.com was registered on 10 Jun 2002 19:45:00. I'm not sure if the IRC channel predates or postdates that, but we have to be coming up on the 10 year anniversary soon.

All I remember is that Cividel invited me to #themanadrain IRC the first day it existed.

Debrand it, remove anything in the program that links it back to you, and release it on Freenet.

I've got this mental image of a dwarf with a crossbow being launched from a catapult, just to get high enough to fire the bolt, then grab onto the target and pull them to the ground.
9  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Blue/Black Aggro Control, losing some stuff to rotation, looking for suggestions on: September 30, 2007, 09:39:09 pm
I've been playing this on and off for the past few months, it's been working decently, but I'm about to lose quite a bit of it to rotation.

// jeek's blue/black aggro.. BEFORE

// Mana
4 River of Tears
4 Terramorphic Expanse
4 Watery Grave
2 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
4 Swamp
4 Island

// Counter
4 Remand
4 Rune Snag
SB: 4 Flashfreeze
SB: 4 Trickbind

// Removal
4 Sudden Death
4 Last Gasp
4 Repeal
SB: 4 Smallpox
SB: 3 Big Game Hunter

// Draw
4 Shadowmage Infiltrator
4 Looter il-Kor
2 Dimir Cutpurse

// The Beats
4 Tombstalker
4 Withered Wretch

As far as I can tell, I'm losing Last Gasp, Remand, Watery Grave, Dimir Cutpurse, and Repeal.
To replace Last Gasp, I'm moving Smallpox to the maindeck, Underground River replaces Watery Grave. Wipe Away replaces Repeal, and I'm thinking about trying Nihilith in the Cutpurse slot along with removing an Island and a Swamp to complete the set of Nihiliths.
The deck basically runs all answers and the creatures act as reusable draw to find the redundant cards.
I've also been contemplating Nameless Inversion as the Last Gasp replacement, but the Smallpox/Nihilith interaction seems strong.

Edit: Oh right, and Delay to replace Remand.

What if this gets Spelljacked (and Misdirected)?
11  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: New Mechanic on: June 05, 2007, 08:25:38 am
I'm not a fan of this mechanic, either, but a possible fix is letting the opponent choose which lands they tap to generate the mana.
12  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Undying Soldier on: June 05, 2007, 08:20:50 am
Might want to have it as "leaves play" instead of being put back into a graveyard, just to stop combo silliness.

For Korlis!

The name sucks, but I think the spell has potential.

23  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Sliver Licid on: April 23, 2007, 02:14:39 pm

That's a pity. It seems like a simple solution. And forgive my ignorance, but who is Lee Sharpe and what was his reasoning?

I'm a bit out of it at the moment, so my answer might not be exactly correct.
Lee Sharpe is a Level 3 judge that is also involved in fixing up rules issues and templating issues in upcoming Magic sets. You'll see him mentioned in the FAQs for
the last few sets. His reasoning was "This is something we don't do"
24  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Sliver Aberration on: April 19, 2007, 09:00:58 am
Sliver Aberration {W} {U} {B} {R} {G}
Creature - Sliver Mutant
As ~this~ comes into play, you may search your deck for up to three different sliver cards and remove them from the game. Then shuffle your library.
As long as any creature cards are removed in this way, this has the abilities of those cards.

25  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Sliver Licid on: April 19, 2007, 08:25:20 am
What about having:

All Slivers gain "T: This creature loses all other abilities and becomes an Aura enchantment with enchant creature. Attach it to target creature. You may pay 0 to end this effect.
Enchanted creature is a Sliver. All other Slivers gain the printed abilities of enchanted creature"

I was told by Lee Sharpe that I can't use "printed".

BrassMan: enchanted sliver guy is a sliver
BrassMan: which means flanking sliver gives him flanking
BrassMan: but since he has flanking do other slivers get it twice?
The answer currently is "Yes". How do we fix this?

What are you trying to fix exactly? Look at Cavalry Master

http://resources.wizards.com/Magic/Cards/TSP/en-us/Card108903.jpg

"Other creatures you control with flanking have flanking. (Each instance of flanking triggers separately.)"

Abilities on slivers stack and this suggests that they can also be stacked on on-slivers.
The problem is that Sliver Licid gains flanking, so then it gives a second instance of flanking to all other slivers.

----
jeek: Enchanted creature is a Sliver. Copy enchanted creature's text box onto all other Slivers.
jeek: zomg I think I have it!
LeeSharpe: That would probably wouldn't be a copy effect, it would probably be keyworded
LeeSharpe: but that seems reasonable

LeeSharpe: "Splice onto [quality]" on a permanent means "[quality] permanents have this permanent's rules text, except for any Splice abilitie, in addition to their own."
LeeSharpe: or similar
LeeSharpe: I would still keyword it, for the complication factor
LeeSharpe: People will understand the keyword and reminder text, they won't understand the rules as written on the card
LeeSharpe: much like Mindslaver, etc

Thanks to LeeSharpe, BrassMan, and EliShffrn for helping me get the rules issues out of the way.
28  Vintage Community Discussion / Card Creation Forum / Re: Abandon the Flesh on: April 12, 2007, 10:08:17 am
How does this differ functionally from Momentary Blink-type effects?  I mean, you can't bounce the copy, but that's about all I can think of.  Maybe that means it should be white.

Interesting that you mention that card, which has a blue flashback. I see it as a cross between Momentary Blink and Pongify.

It looks as though I've been partially vindicated with what people are accepting as a reliable spoiler for Future Sight. Is making it symmetrical worth the extra power of my version?
