im quite certain you have to choose your target before you flip the coin.  so if it comes up heads counter it, if its tails copy it.

Can any judges or mods confirm this?

I'm actually preparing to sell my Magic collection. As I was sorting through the rares, I read Odds//Ends from Dissension. After having spent such an incredible amount of time (and, um, money) on this game, I still feel compelled to get an answer to my question. The part the concerns me is Odds.

"Flip a coin. If it comes up heads, counter target instant or sorcery spell. If it comes up tails, copy that spell and you may choose new targets for the copy." http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=107445&part=Odds

As I read the card, the coin flip takes place before the naming of targets. "Flip a coin. If heads, counter target spell. If tails, duplicate target spell." That is different in meaning, to me, from what I originally thought the card meant. That is, "Choose a target instant or sorcery spell. Flip a coin. If heads, counter that spell. If tails, duplicate that spell." Since I can find no rulings or errata, I thought I'd ask here. Which is correct?

t8: Spencer, Smmenen, Goblins, Caboose, Gro/Thresh?, maybe Pox, Affinity and Faerie Stompy

The "maybe Pox" is my assorted jumble of black stuff, which will likely find its way into another thread at the Development forum tomorrow if anybody's looking for an explanation. If you're feeling curious or helpful, check it out tomorrow.

Thanks to the other 17 that showed, I really enjoyed it!

There's also Clifton Comics and Games about two blocks from UC campus. Some Magic event every Friday and Saturday, and people sit around and play WoW TCG randomly. Another place is Comic Book World, but I've only been there once.

Um, I also live in Cinci, and me and/or my small playgroup would usually be up for some Magic when free. PM me if you want a phone number.

Hello, all. I starting playing Magic just before 4th was released, and quit for a few years near the release of Visions. I picked the game up again a little over a year ago when I discovered there was a standard community nearby. For that reason, I primarily play T2, either limited or constructed, though I do enjoy Extended and Legacy, and want to be more involved in Legacy.
