1  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: [results]The official B&W Twaun Serious Open 5/4/2013 on: May 13, 2013, 12:40:10 pm
This thread needs more pictures!  And I agree, sounds like a rad time.
2  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free Podcast] So Many Insane Plays # 24: Dragon's Maze Set Review on: May 06, 2013, 01:29:38 pm
My argument is that I don't want to 'prepare' for a card like Tinker at all, in the first place. I want to prepare against cards like Show and Tell.

They made a format for that... it's called Legacy.  Neutral

I'd like to hear more anecdotal stories about bad beats, humorous scenarios, amazing wins etc.  I think those are your strongest segments.

Thanks for the feedback.  I think this is exactly what we are good at.

I can guarantee that you'll never hear a 25+ minute discussion on the one fringe case where a new uncommon is marginally playable.

4  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: Serious Vintage podcast, Ep. 3 - Workshoppin' and Sandwich Punchin' with Twaun on: October 26, 2012, 07:46:07 am
Sandwich punch question (now that I'm in) If I order a club sand which that comes cut in halves or quarters how does that work if I don't put down the piece I'm on.

The section of the sandwich that is altered by you (bitten, cut, ingredients added or taken away) is now a punchable sandwich.  If you get a sandwich that is already cut in two pieces and you are only eating one half and have not touched the other half, the untouched half would not be punchable as you did nothing to alter it.  If you pick up a sandwich, alter it, and never put it down while you eat it it's never a punchable sandwich.  You can't just punch a sandwich out of someones hands.  They must alter the sandwich and set it down unguarded.  Hope that answers your question!

Are you a permanent fixture of their show now?

I'll probably be on the show frequently when I have the recording date available.  I wasn't on the first episode as my internet wasn't working at the time.

In general, these podcasts do not seem as well planned or deeply analysed as So Many Insane Plays.  I think they're going for a more chummy, "a bunch of guys" atmosphere rather than the exhaustive analysis you and Kevin offer.

I won't speak for Nat or Geoff but this is pretty much exactly what I was going for.
6  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: Serious Vintage podcast, Ep. 3 - Workshoppin' and Sandwich Punchin' with Twaun on: October 24, 2012, 03:43:12 pm
Colin, I do plan on making my way to Black Gold on a regular basis again.  My work schedule has changed again allowing me to game on Wed.  Although, I won't be making it tonight as the only deck I have together is dredge.....and I just won't do that to my friends.

Also, like Nat said, thanks for listening and replying!

And I agree that Sandwich Punch and Vintage decks is a nonbo.  Food/Drink and Vintage cards at the same time generally aren't the best decision.
7  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: Serious Vintage podcast, Ep. 2 - Team Serious Open, Burning Wish, and Gin on: October 15, 2012, 07:34:34 am
If you're not going to win the game, it is strategically important to stall in a way that is not unreasonable.  You may know right away what is the right play, but taking the time to think about it, when you haven't taken time to think about any previous play, could add up and result in a draw.

I didn't really think about MTGO during this discussion.  I think, at least speaking for myself, that we were talking about in person tournament magic.  And I'm not entirely sure this is legal.  That aside, to me playing to a draw in a game you can't win is even worse than a loss.  At least with the loss you can pick up your cards and head to happy hour fifteen minutes earlier.

I'd like to make this.  But that all depends on flight prices from Denver.  We will see.

Or we can go to the Brass Pelican in Huron and have a glazed doughnuts as buns hamburger eating contest.

I agree with this furthest distance prize...since I'll probably win.

Which will probably the only thing I'll win all day... Neutral
15  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: T.O. Report: BLACK GOLD DISASTER on: September 15, 2010, 02:45:00 pm
I moved to Colorado a few years back and was informed by many of my Ohio magic playing friends that Colorado has a great Vintage scene.  And I do believe that is the case.  The first time I showed up at Black Gold I was warmly welcomed by Carl and the other players there.  I really appreciate the events that Carl puts on as I know he truly has a love for the format.  I'm pretty guilty in that I have not made it out there in a few months due to multiple reasons, sometimes I forget when the events are and sometimes the weather is too nice to justify me being indoors anywhere.  It has nothing to do with  Saturdays vs. Sundays.

In short, I will be returning to playing magic regularly as the weather is about to turn and I'm looking forward to that.  I have no issues with proxy vs nonproxy.  When I first started playing out here I thought I would dislike nonproxy as I don't own any power.  In fact the exact opposite happened, I found it quite interesting.  You get to play against some pretty strange decks and I found that exciting.

My $0.02

16  Eternal Formats / Western/Pacific U.S. / Re: Vintage Proxy Event - BLACK GOLD 8/15 on: August 18, 2010, 01:27:03 pm
Who took this one down?  I totally meant to go, but it's really hard for me to be inside when the weather is perfect.  Looking forward to hibernating and gaming in the winter months.

I might have some cards you can borrow.  Depends on what you need.  I don't have goblins though.  Also, we play every Thursday at Black Gold around 6pm.  It's zero proxy and sanctioned.  But you can just throw something together show up.  It's free and we just play for fun.

I just bought a plane ticket for this.  Looking forward to hanging out with old friends from Ohio and making new friends also.  Looking forward to the laid back atmosphere.

Oh my!  I hear you're a sandwich assassin!  When's the last time you've been to Thurman's?

I haven't been there since I moved to Colorado.  I'm looking forward to (hopefully) more free drinks.

I'd say that Mana Drain, Mishra's Workshop, Bazaar of Bagdhad, Imperial Seal, Illusionary Mask, Grim Tutor, Library of Alexandria are still considered 'unpowered'.  I'd just call 'em real damn good.  But then again I'm not running anything.
27  Archives / Tournament Announcement Forum / Re: BLACK GOLD 10th Vintage Extravaganza - March 22 on: March 10, 2009, 02:10:17 pm
I'll be there.  Probably playing something silly since I don't own any power.
28  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Grand Prix Chicago March 7-8 2009 on: February 11, 2009, 11:55:38 am
How are you guys from Colorado getting there?  I've been entertaining the idea of going so I can see all my friends from Ohio again.
Myself, Brett Piazza and Connelly Woods are driving out. You want me to see if there is more room?

That would be awesome.  If you could give me a rough idea of when you plan on leaving Denver and when you plan on leaving Chicago so I can call off work.  Thanks man.
29  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Grand Prix Chicago March 7-8 2009 on: February 10, 2009, 07:49:18 pm
With that being said, anyone from CO driving out there and have an extra spot in their vehicle and need another denominator for the gas cost?  I drink a lot and punch sandwiches with the best of 'em.
30  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Re: Grand Prix Chicago March 7-8 2009 on: February 09, 2009, 06:34:20 pm
Coffeecup, you should come.  You'll have a place to crash at.  There's about twelve of us going that I know of.

I'll see what I can do.  Driving out by myself from Denver isn't happening unless I find a wealthy and divorced woman to marry me in the next few weeks.
