I agree with Wiley.  I don't think this card is near as good as diabolic edict, and only sometimes as good or better than chainers.
I guess if it gets misdirected, it is better, but other than that, it's just not as good as diabolic.
I'm not sure gobbos run either.
2  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Deck] Super Long on: November 17, 2007, 01:56:34 pm
Your MWS is messed up too?? (sorry off subject).
Mine reverted back to the unregistered version and killed the card lists except for one deck.
Maybe I will contact them.

@ Thoughtseize being misdirected:

I seems like some of you don't know that you don't have to pick a card. Therefore Thoughtseize being misdirected isn't as bad as some people tell you.

Are you sure about that, it doesn't say "you may" pick a card, it says "you choose a card from that players hand"

Ok, so at this point, he has board control, and my EE will wreck his CotV at 0 and 2, 2 and 2 moxen, and none of my permanents, and allows me to play lotus and mox, basically for the win.

I agree with duress turn 1 as well.  Think about what you are trying to hit turn 1 on the play.
Ancestral, Lotus, Force, Flash, Gush, Mis-D.
I dont think that Bob, Mage, Salvager, Trinks, Teeg, or many of the other creatures will be on that list.

Metalworker might be a good target.  Possibly Welder.  But even these cards will be accompanied by more dangerous cards in your average 6-7 card hand.  If not, the duress effect probably doesn't matter.
6  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: [Deck] 13 Balls! on: October 23, 2007, 02:57:59 pm
I recently encountered a deck similar to this, but it was more disruptive with duress and Mox Monkey.  I was playing an odd version of Boberman, and games two and three I wrecked it with massacre.  I had to pay 2 or 3 mana to cast it, but not a big deal to wipe the board.  I think something like tanglewire would be very helpful, because then it's hard to cast the massacre(or mass destruction of choice.)

Now, the deck I was playing is probably not tier 1, but I didn't have to much trouble post board.  I was just annoyed a lot, especially the game he had 4 sphere's in play.
7  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Uba Stax: The time is now on: October 13, 2007, 07:21:20 am
@Diopter, I see what you mean about Wire being bad by itself.  But none of the lock pieces in a Stax build, Uba or otherwise, are champs by themselves.  That is why you play all of them.  Do you think a deck with nothing but 4 SoR's in it would do well??  Probably not.

Also I very much agree with MoxLotus about Flash.  A competent Flash player really shouldn't have a problem with the first one or two things UbaStax plays.  With the exception of maybe 3 sphere, or if they are play Trike and can power it out turn 1.  Now, if this goes to the late game, Stax will have a better chance.  This is talking game 1 obviously.
8  Vintage Community Discussion / Community Introductions / Re: Introduce Yourself on: October 10, 2007, 02:54:55 pm
Ok, I've been on TMD for a while now, so I suppose I should introduce myself.

I am Aaron, and I currently live in Illinois.  I used to live in Washington state and that is where I started playing during Masques block.

A friend of mine taught me how to play, and I soon was spending way to much money on this cardboard form of crack.  But it was so much fun it was worth it.

After a few months we found a local tourney to play at.  We didn't do to bad with our non-powered, jank decks, but thats what everyone was playing.  As our tourney experience grew, we thougth we were actually getting pretty good.

Then the new guy showed up playing a deck we hadn't seen.  "Illusions of Grandeur??  That card is horrible."  Oops, maybe not.

So, we had our first real introduction to Vintage.  Of course this only made us start finding ways to beat it, which in turn made us better players.

At this point in time, I don't consider my self a "Great", or even good player.  But I can usually hold my own without making to many mistakes.

Thanks for listening.

GO BOMBERMAN!!!
9  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Proxies on: October 10, 2007, 02:16:57 pm
I have some proxies that are actually photo copies of originals, very high quality.  The backs were left blank so that he wasn't accused of forgery.  I have never had a problem playing them as long as the sleeves are very opaque, but haven't played them at and major tourneys.  I think Mirkwood in Washington St. was the biggest place I have used them.
10  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Toyota's New TV Ad on: October 10, 2007, 02:13:46 pm
I don't even play WOW and I still think this is a great commercial.  Toyota definately has some of the best ads.
11  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Uba Stax: The time is now on: October 08, 2007, 01:08:23 pm
I have seen a build very similar to this when I played in Washington St.  It was very good against pretty much everything but storm combo. (This was before flash so I don't know how that matchup is.)

The main difference I see in the decks, is that he ran multiple(don't remember exactly) gambles.  Generally what this did, was either give him strip lock, or find an artifact he needed with welder in play.  "Discard the Duplicant I just fetched?? Sure."

I think his deck varied between more aggro versions, with Juggs and 7/10, to more control oriented like yours.

Either way, as a bomberman player, this had to be one of my worst matchups because he could power out more than I could counter.
12  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Aggro bomberman on: October 05, 2007, 07:04:11 am
The only time I really miss the counterspells is when they Tinker in 7/10.  That is usually pretty devastating.  Much of the rest can be played around, especially games 2 and 3.

I am definately open to changes obviously, hence why I put this up here.  I didn't get a chance to mess with it last night as I wasn't feeling good, but hopefully in the next couple days I can try some stuff.
13  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Aggro bomberman on: October 04, 2007, 12:46:24 pm
I agree about Teeg.  Going to four colors won't work, and black is better than green.

Why do you say 2 Aether is better than one of each?

Now that you mention walk, I think it is in the deck(I don't have list in front of me.)  I think that is the only card I missed though.
I will edit when I get home.
14  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Aggro bomberman on: October 04, 2007, 12:01:55 pm
How does chains ruin the combo??  As long as Pyrite makes it to the yard, I win.(Assuming other pieces in place.)

I can understand how Pyrite is a "win more" card, but really whats the difference between that and Aether spellbomb.  I don't like the idea of only running a single spellbomb, and if I have to fetch both of them, I am pretty much dead already.

I have gone back and forth on the top issue, I understand its good, but doesn't always suit my playstyle.  I may try it again though.

I may go back to more conventional bomberman before the tourney, I was just trying to make this work.
15  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Aggro bomberman on: October 04, 2007, 10:53:57 am
Well, from playing it I have found that it wins faster when it wins.  Maybe "aggro" isn't the best term, I was just trying to communicate the fact that it generally goes off faster and wins by combo more often.
16  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Aggro bomberman on: October 04, 2007, 07:28:11 am
Ok, not very often do I try to completely change an established deck, mainly because I'm not that great of a deckbuilder.  But this idea I can up with a couple months ago and have been having fair success on MWS.

DUDES
4 Auriok Salvager
4 Trinket Mage
4 Dark Confidant

SPELLS
4 Impulse(recent addition, not sure about this)
2 Vindicate
1 Ancestral Recall
4 Duress
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Echoing Truth

DISRUPTION/TOOLBOX
1 Aether Spellbomb
1 Pyrite Spellbomb
1 Engineered Explosives
1 Tormod's Crypt
3 Chains of Mest.

LANDS
1 Strip Mine
2 Tundra
2 Underground Sea
3 Flooded Strand
3 Polluted Delta
2 Island
1 Swamp
1 Plains

1 Black Lotus
5 Moxen
1 Lotus Petal
3 Vault/Crypt/Ring

SIDEBOARD
4 Leyline of the Void
2 Swords to Plowshares
2 In the Eye Of Chaos
1 Pithing Needle
2 Massacre
2 Tividar's Crusade/Tividar of Thorn
1 Don't remember this slot

I'm not going to go over the cards that are obvious, but I will comment on some of the off the wall stuff.

Vindicate:  This card helps with all kinds of stuff.  Yes it costs three, but DSC and Akroma are the only permanents it doesn't take care of.

Chains:  Hoses any deck that runs draw, which is all but gobbos and ichorid.(Ichorid replaces draw)

Impulse:  Running this over Brainstorm because of chains.

Tividar and Crusade:  I have trouble with goblins.  Could be something else though.

Just curious as to what everyone thinks.  I am wanting to play something like this in Chicago in November.  I wasn't really sure I even wanted to post it, but I think I need some input.
17  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Lorwyn impact prediction - vroman on: October 01, 2007, 03:19:23 pm
It's not for playing spells, it's for drawing cards.
18  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Kowal Slaver on: September 29, 2007, 07:30:56 pm
I think GUnit is right.  Every deck has potentially dead cards, duress is pretty bad against ichorid game 1.  The key is, how powerful is that card when it isn't dead, and how often will it be.  I say if a card wins you the game if it resolves, its probably worth the risk.
19  Vintage Community Discussion / Casual Forum / Re: cube drafting on: September 28, 2007, 11:17:38 am
I don't know if there is actually a cube "format", but the people I have know with cubes generally just put in all of their better cards.  They didn't really care how many cards were in the cube, but the color mixed did stay pretty even.  I guess i would recomend that if you have a card you would like to draft, put it in.

One way to keep the card pool down that I have seen, is to only use foils or foreign cards.

I like to just use cards you like playing with, but aren't good enough to be competitive.
20  Vintage Community Discussion / Non-Vintage / Lorwyn drafts. on: September 28, 2007, 09:36:15 am
Ok, so I am going to the Lorwyn pre-release tomorrow in Illinois, but only to draft, because i blow at sealed.  Anyway, I was just curious what kind of strategies people might recommend.  I have been looking over the spoiler so I have some ideas, such as elves or gobbos.

Just wondering what everyone else is thinking.
21  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Movies that never, ever get old. on: September 28, 2007, 08:49:36 am
Hmm, I would have to start with Braveheart, always liked that one.
Also:
Fightclub
Sin City
Willow
Happy Gilmore
Big Daddy
and Mclintock(don't ask)
22  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Magic in Chicago? on: September 28, 2007, 08:10:17 am
Just map quest it.
23  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Sigh...sleeves question again on: September 28, 2007, 08:08:10 am
I would have to recomend players choice/KMC(same thing) in the glossy.  I don't care for the KMC mat-black or blue, they don't shuffle well.

For casual play, I like dragons because they shuffle nice, but they do mark up a lot so maybe not the best for touney play.
24  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Lorwyn artwork on: September 27, 2007, 06:09:38 pm
Vegeta;
That is a good point.  Many of the pics that I think are pretty awful, do closely match what they are supposed to be.  I just think they look bad.
25  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: Lorwyn artwork on: September 27, 2007, 03:23:35 pm
I have only seen the artwork that is on Salvation.  Of those, I have to give props to: Neck Snap, Broken Ambitions, Dread, Lilian Vess, and Chandra Nalaar.  I also like the look of Gaddock Teeg, although it doesn't really jump out at you.

And of course and honorable mention for the "nothing but leaves" wearing Woodland Changeling.

The rest of the artwork I have seen though is either very boring, or down right awful, IMO.
26  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Lorwyn artwork on: September 27, 2007, 08:16:33 am
Ok, hopefully the moderators don't mind this kind of different topic, but I wanted to bring it up.

I'm not sure the last time I saw a set with some of the best, but also some of the worst artwork in a magic set.  I won't mention any specific cards so I don't offend anyone, but wow, I thought I was looking at some cards from Alliances era.

I know this really has no effect on anything with the game, but I have always been a fan of the better artwork in magic.

Just curious if anyone else feels the same about this set??
27  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Lorwyn impact prediction - vroman on: September 27, 2007, 07:31:56 am
I wasn't saying that either CM or the Faerie are good, just that the Faerie isn't much worse if at all.  Personally i wouldn't play either, but then I don't play fish either.  Unless my pyrite spellbomb gets Extripated.   Very Happy
28  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Lorwyn impact prediction - vroman on: September 26, 2007, 11:21:41 am
Well, sure it's a Control Magic on legs. You make it sound like it's actually good to be a creature instead of an enchantment. It's horrible in my opinion.

Then why is Magus of the Moon played over Blood Moon???   Duress anyone?
29  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Mindslaver and opponent's sideboard [O] on: September 20, 2007, 07:19:41 am
Ok, first let me say I'm not disputing the ruling made here.  I just have a question, which after lorwyn will basically be irrelevant, but I want to ask anyway.

Until now, a player could not look at his sideboard during a game, correct??  Then how could he look as his sideboard during a wish resolution??  Did they make a special rule for this??

Just curious.
30  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Re: Lets discuss Bomberman today on: August 08, 2007, 12:12:52 pm
I tried putting a balance in the last couple days on MWS and it was horrible.  I think I cast it once but I had already lost.

I am still going back and forth deciding if I should play red or not.  It can be really good, but the mana base is way more sketchy.
