I'm thinking about going on Sunday, haven't played vintage in a while. Dustin Espersen says he is going also.

Hmmm. It's a one hour drive for me. Maybe.

4  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Eudemonia *SPRING VINTAGE* Top 8 Decklists! 4/13/2013 on: April 19, 2013, 01:28:04 am
"As an observer, the interaction between the players seemed borderline shady, but not definitively so (but what do I know as a mostly casual player who "wins" by having a pimper deck than my opponents). Brett was not particularly forthcoming with information and ALMOST seemed to be trying to mislead Danny. However, I don't know Brett and do know Danny, so that may be coloring how I view the situation. (no offense meant to Brett, please don't take it that way)"

There was absolutely nothing shady about the interaction between the two players. Brett explained how the two cards worked and his opponent didn't understand. The judge agreed with Brett's explanation and saw no issue with it. Short of explaining to his opponent that all he simply had to do was pay 1 mana and his spell would resolve, what should Brett have done instead? If Danny didn't understand he should have said so or asked the judge for help. Instead, he just put his Tinker in the graveyard and assumed that it was countered. This may sound a bit harsh, but you are not obligated to help someone understand how to play their cards correctly to beat you. When something happens in a game and I don't understand it, I call a judge and ask for help even if it's embarrassing to admit my ignorance. Personally, if I were Danny I would have used some cards that were lying around (or asked the judge for some) and put them down on the table with each card representing a copy of flusterstorm on the stack. Brett was able to do this in his head, Danny was not.

Vintage in Vacaville this Saturday! Come on down!

@Heiner: Luudes (Michael Lewis) is pretty much a regular. Also, Eric Campusano might be guilted into supporting our scene. Smile

I will be in Disneyland, sorry Smile

Can't make it to the vacaville one sadly. Have to help a friend move. There's a tournament for a Time Walk at GP Anaheim on the 26th if anyone hadn't noticed.
10  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: I'm Moving -- From Ohio to the Bay (California) on: May 09, 2012, 07:05:56 pm
So, when is the vintage tournament resurgence in the bay area happening?
11  Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Re: I'm Moving -- From Ohio to the Bay (California) on: March 06, 2012, 01:39:01 pm
I live in the bay area and always carry a competitive vintage deck around with me to tournaments. Unfortunately, no one will ever play with me Razz

I would be interested in attending any vintage tournaments that come up and could potentially convince 2-3 former vintage players to attend as well.
12  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Superstars 8/21/11 Vintage Top 4 Decklists [San Jose, CA] on: September 04, 2011, 04:08:24 pm
How many people showed?

I have 5 more sundays booked. Sad

Disappointingly, we got only 9. Nobody from the Campee crew, nobody from your area, none of the new folks who showed up last time.

I might go to the one next weekend. I work M-F and my gf works Thurs-Sat, so Sunday is our only day off together and it's hard to go play Magic. I want to pick up some cards though, so I'll try and make it.

18  Eternal Formats / Western/Pacific U.S. / Re: [Announcement/Schedule] Vintage/Legacy Tournaments at Superstars in San Jose, CA on: September 20, 2010, 12:02:36 pm
15 people showed. me, ryan devine, josh utter leyton, and charles gordon split the top 4 (there was no top 8). $93 each in store credit.

i played blue/black/white tezz w/o tezz, ryan was playing some form of tezz but i'm not sure about the specifics, and charles and josh were playing TPS. there was actually a lot of TPS at the tournament, matt nass and some guy whose name I don't know were playing it as well. i played against charles/matt/josh and beat matt and josh with ethersworn canonist (added last minute due to how many TPS decks i saw before the tournament). there were 0 stax decks which was good because my deck was very vulnerable to it without trygon predators and my lack of relevant sideboard cards.

my only loss for the day was against charles gordon. charles beat me in game 3 of our match after my turn 1 ancestral into 0 force of wills. his turn 1 consisted of playing a mox, lotus petal, land, dark ritual, necro, time walk. he later told me that if i had a force of will there he would have been cold.

i had some strange cards in my deck.. i misdirected ancestral recall two times during the tournament! i had an ethersworn canonist out against TPS and they cast mystical tutor during their main phase to put ancestral on top. during my turn i demonic tutor for misdirection. they draw ancestral and cast it. i misdirect it and they can't do anything about it thanks to canonist. win!

no LSV/ochoa/fob/lotushead Sad hopefully we get more people next month!

I'm still running Ray Of Revelation over True Believer for better or for worse. I didn't have to play against any Oath all day, thankfully.
27  Eternal Formats / Global Vintage Tournament Reports and Results / Re: Superstars Results! Lists! Pics! on: April 26, 2010, 12:13:06 am
I was actually playing Fish.. I just broke out my Oath deck to play for fun in between rounds  when you saw me Smile
28  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [FREE Article] Clash of the Titans! TPS v. Oath on: April 25, 2010, 12:03:24 am
In game 3,  why didn't TPS take the Lotus with Duress? Wouldn't that have kept the Oath player out of the game for a really long time?

I used to play vintage back in the mid 90s and remember having to deal with Brian Weismann and his "The Deck" at all of the local tournaments in the SF bay area. One of the coolest decks of all time, definitely. What is the difference between "Keeper" and "The Deck"? Aren't they the same thing?
