I think we've actually had the Lunchable discussion before. Seriously, does your friend actually make a little sandwich, then take a bit, then set the sandwich down? That's on par with putting down a partially eaten Ice Cream sandwich.
I distracted him in mid bite. I know thats like... dastardly and everything but I still got my punch in. and for the record, it felt really good.

My opponent cast Sinkhole targeting my Mishra's Factory. I had Plains, Factory, and Mother of Runes in play, active and all untapped.
Can I respond to sinkhole by activating Mishra's Factory as a 2/2 then give it Pro Black to stop Sinkhole's effect?

@Troy, What scenarios would you rather have a DSC to Tinker for instead of Platinum Angel? Are you serious? I've never liked Tinkering for Angel instead of DSC. I'm just trying to figure out why you'd remove DSC when Ichorid runs Oxidize. Also, can't the Tendrils player just target Angel twice with 2 storm copies and you with the rest? If not then I've totally dropped games I shouldn't have. EDIT* I just reread Troys origional post on DSC vs Plat. My apologies, I thought he was advocating Angel over DCS.

I have also unfortunately had to play against Shahrazad in a tournament. I was playing Fish, and I somehow won the first game, most likely due to him not finding or resolving a Shahrazad. Anyway, in game 2 that was not the case. He resolved several Shahrazad. I think at one point we were in the fourth nested subgame, where I was decked because I started the game with like 10 cards in my library. I refused to concede any of the subgames because I was playing Fish (not exactly an explosive deck) and I had won game 1, so the fact that we were clearly going to draw the second game didn't bother me as much as if I had lost the first game. But it DID bother me. It was a very frustrating experience... almost infuriating. The second game took us at least 40 minutes of stupid Magic playing. Meanwhile the rest of the tournament had to wait around while we finished time + 5 turns (we were the last game being played). It pissed me off. And I was in a position to win the match. If I had lost game 1 I might just have lost it. I guess the point that I'm trying to make is that I'm glad Shahrazad is banned, if only because of this personal experience. It DOES disrupt tournament play. Don't fool yourself into thinking it doesn't.
I still fail to see how even your example disrupted tournament play. Did you go beyond the 50 minute + 5 rounds? I've went to time in a Landstill mirror before, is that any different?

Thanks Troy, I do agree about Tinker. The only difference was that I was thinking of Platinum Angel over DSC. Mainly due to the fact that it helps game 1 vs. both dredge and tendrils. I do think that it could find a place in the deck but I'm not sure what to cut. Thanks again, for your advice.
Perhaps you could cut the Top and the 3rd Mana Leak. You have plenty of counter magic in your deck, so the loss of the third Leak shouldn't make a big difference. Do you feel your deck lacks protection? Anyway, I like Angel too. It also protects you from random decks that use Painter-Grindstone or Helm of Obedience to try to win. I've always felt Angel is a legit target for Tinker. I agree with cutting the 3rd Mana Leak, as the list runs 10 counters and 1 bounce spell anyway. @Troy, What scenarios would you rather have a DSC to Tinker for instead of Platinum Angel?

@ Harlequin, This is just my person preference, but if the DCI Gods told us we would have to put up a random card from our deck to play every single game at an event I'd stop playing Vintage events. If the DCI gods told us we COULD play with Shahrazad, and I was beaten savagely in a long LONG game 1 by a Shahrazad player and lost the entire round then I'd secretly be happy. It's the evolutionary progress of Vintage that made come back in the first place.
I play Vintage, and love it. I play in a 10 proxy meta. When I fork over my 20 bucks, or 25 bucks, or whatever, you BET it's Gambling! It's ante-ing up $20 to play. I don't care about Sharazad enough to chaimpion it's unbanning, as nobody played it anyways, and it's absence is hardly missed, I might worry more if another card (MINDSLAVER) got banned for whatever reason, or Shared Fate. I think that the fundamental difference here is that you know your going to lose 20, or 25 $ with that entrance fee long before you ever get to the tournament. If playing for Ante you would not know what card you were about to lose until the beginning of the game. There is a huge difference between a 20-25$ entrance fee you know about, and putting up a random cards from both decks to play for. When I play poker, it's my choice to either raise, check or fold. If the poker rules stated that I take a random amount of money from my pile and bet that every time I wanted to raise then I doubt I'd play poker. My main problem with the Ante system is that the card you put up against mine usually will not be of equal value. The entrance fee into a tourney is always of equal value.

I personally would like to thank Steve for this article, Shahrazad is one of those cards that I fondly remember being thrown around the kitchen table during my first years as a player. In my opinion, the rally for this card to become Vintage legal again would neither add anything or take away from our current Vintage meta. I fail to see how even this Stall.DD.dec could in fact change how we play in tourneys. So what if the other player goes through some ridiculous and long winded combo to win. So what if the method to the madness is to win a long game 1. The short answer is that the reason for the existence of Vintage is to have a format where you get to play with every card ever printed in so far as possible. As a corollary to that, we have the highest possible standards for banning, since a card is then removed from Magic entirely. We only ban if it is absolutely necessary.
If this is in fact our reasoning for adding a card to the banned list then I believe that if a player wishes to make the choice to play Shahrazad.dec at a tournament then that player should be able to exercise the free will to do so. Since (as already elaborated in the full article) Shahrazad is currently banned for completely different reasons then every other card on the list. Over at our house we have a multitude of gaming systems (Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3) and yet when we are in the mood you describe we fall back on an old faithful game called... "Gladius" for PS2. It's very very much like d20 games. You play as a group of Gladiators, growing your school and battling using a grid interface. It's loads of fun, turn based and each of the characters in the game has their own "Skill Tree", making each character VERY VERY customizable (to give you an idea, the games hero can be built into a HP/Defense TANK or a brutal attacker. The game also has Arcane/Divine casters of sorts and is pretty long (around 50-60 hours of play with a good replay value) here is a link to some relevant info http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/gladius/index.htmlif your against the turn based sytem then try out "Champions of Norrath" on PS2, it's alot like Baldurs Gate, it's just not associated with Wizards.

1st off welcome to the boards. 2ndly, I agree with beder. I've been toying with Rgw beats and have included 4 Null Rod since it slows the game down and Skullclamps & Manamorphose for the weak draw engine... the result is still a bit shakey but it's a blast to play. I've also set aside 3 Root Maze in the SB, as the only way it seems to be able to win is by slowing the game way way down. 2 cents

I wouldn't say I was devastated. I may have given that impression when I kept saying 'I can't believe he beat me on turn 1'. I already know it happens... I heard a couple guys talking about this guy that played long at a previous tourney and had played 14 turns in 7 matches. That's just crazy. But I am a little let down that I main decked 4 stifles and a lot of discard and disruption just so I could beat long and then my only 2 losses were to the only 2 long decks I played. But I guess that's what I get for playing my own version of a deck instead of playing a net deck card for card. I mean I can trust myself to do stuff like that in a format I'm really familiar with, but that's not the case with vintage. And I want to play more, but it will be hard if I don't see more proxy tournaments closer to Indianapolis.
Welcome to TMD by the way!

I am in Bloomington if you ever feel like making a haul down here : )
Wow, I didn't know you moved down here Doug. I've recently started playing again. We'll have to talk about hitting up some tournaments. As for T1 in IN, it is nonexistent. I tried a few years ago to make tournaments work in Bloomington, but nobody in Bloomington will play Vintage. They all play Standard and Draft. On the other hand, my friend and I will probably start going to tournaments on a more regular basis now. All of the infinite proxy events have made it more appealing for me to try to make it to a tournament every month or so.As for the gaming store in town, it is called The Game Preserve. They have drafts and FNM. Never any T1 tournaments. I talked to the store manager recently about doing some T1 tourneys, but they can only hold them on Saturday and I absolutely have to work every Saturday. Either way, I don't think there are enough local precipitants to make a T1 tourney successful. Well if your planning on driving to a proxy tourney and will be passing Indy I'll be more then happy to throw down on gas $! Just let me know in advance

Did you walk down Kirkwood on mushrooms or something?
Bloom is really nice, if you're making a trip let me know. There's a gaming store in town that I haven't checked out yet.
(O.O) ummm... I used to drive down there for electronic events but the scene is not too accepting of my kandi crew... ... I'd comment more but I'd totally incriminate myself. Are there Vintage or Legacy tourney's in B-town?

In my 2.5 years in West Lafayette, I never did find much in the way of Vintage out there. They have t1 tournaments sometimes in Chicago or Michigan, but rather little in IN itself. The Purdue area has some good players, though they mostly draft and play no Vintage. PM me if you'd like to know the names of some folks who draft at Purdue. Best of luck searching.
To be honest with you I have just recently started getting back into the eternal formats. The last time i played regularly was during the time that you could still play 4 Yawgmoth's Bargain in Standard!!! I've always had one pet Vintage deck but I recently have a 10 proxy Pitch Long deck sleeved up and have been playing online to test (ugh). As such, I don't really like to draft since the cards I'll pull won't go into any decks. I have resorted to buying singles Thanks though. I am in Bloomington if you ever feel like making a haul down here : )
I have a terribly fear of the Bloomington area, for unrelated events I've attended down there. However, I do have a few magic buddies down there and if I do indeed make a trip down there I'll be sure to shoot you a PM

Is there anyone here who would be willing to test and/or just play in the south Indianapolis area? I've visited Indy Gamerz and The Game Preserve and have not found anyone who plays either Vintage or Legacy. All of my friends exclusively play Standard. Please, I think I'm starting to go through withdrawal, last night I tried to smoke a few of my Brainstorm's...
