I don't like the way how the way Eudo charged $30, seems to me they just want to make money. When they charged $30 last time, it was for a Black Lotus (which interestingly enough was an event that got canceled). I am not going to pay $30 for the tourney when the store takes a percentage of it and give back in store credit. In Vacaville, it was cash pay out and back in Superstars, prize pool is 100% of the entry fee. With the way Eudo is running things, it seems like they care about profiting through the tourneys rather than for the best interest of the players. I am okay with $20 entry fee, but $30 is way too much. Originally I have no intent of coming to the tourney but Web convinced me eventually so I was thinking might as well. But definitely won't be going if anything doesn't change next time.
While I always appreciate the feedback and take everything to heart, I'm puzzled by this. What is wrong with us making money? As a business and as someone who works very hard, why is it wrong for me to make money? When you work, do you do it for free or do you care to make money? Should game stores exist as non profit entities? Lets clarify this a bit. Are you saying tournament services in general does not deserve profit or are you saying Eudemonia, in the services it provides, does not deserve profit? There were several reasons why I decided to go with $30. Profit is always a consideration and as a business, I'm not afraid to admit this. However, the main reason I charged $30 is that I view both Legacy and Vintage events as premium events. With premium events, we charge a higher price and give a bigger payout. It sets the tone for the event. This is the biggest reason I decided on $30. It is one thing to suggest that we lower the entry fee. However, please dont suggest that I am screwing the Vintage community. I do want to provide a valuable service, but it has to make business sense. As for the point about 5-8th not getting their entry fee. This was an oversight and it will not happen again.

BC: We transitioned to a new system for tracking store credit. There is a good chance your store credit can still be pulled up in the old system. Shoot me an email: info at eudemonia net. If I cant find it, we'll work something out. I apologize for the inconvenience. If there was something you wanted to buy, keep in mind that we ship free over $25 now, so you do not have to be in the store to use your credit.
Stephen and Mike have contacted me about setting things up. We'll work out some dates and hopefully get a better date for this event.

I apologize for cancelling the event. There was a miscommunication between our event coordinator and I about the dates. After realizing the confusion, we discussed the situation and decided to cancel. In hindsight, it was a terrible mistake and in the future, we will go ahead with the event. Again, I'm sorry for the inconvenience. We will let the community know soon what date the event will be.

I want to address the great feedback people are giving about our events. Our prize structure is no big secret so I'll explain it to everyone with the goal of more transparency and understanding for our events. For all of our magic events, we take the entry fee, minus $2.00 for administrative costs (event staff pay) and give out the rest in store credit. For the Time Walk P9 event, we had 22 players. This worked out to $506 in the prize pool. Our Time Walk price came in at around $480. The price was compared to http://findmagiccards.com/Cards/UN/Time_Walk.html for a sanity check. This left $26 in the prize pool. However we wanted to give the rest of the top 4 something, so we gave back the entry fee (Free entry for the next P9!). This is more than what we took in but we thought it was necessary to help build the community. We want to do everything we can to support the P9 community because we know the Magic community will continue to support us. Our goal is to break even on these events whether we have 8 players or 40 players. I hope more players will show up to the next event so we can give out larger prizes. It seems to me that our store credit is more valuable to the gamer player base compared to the regional magic player base. Our local gamers are here on a daily or weekly basis and buy plenty of drinks, snacks, singles, boosters, computer time, events and other games. I just realized the regional magic players are here once a month and generally want to buy magic cards. With that in mind, I will commit to having a larger and more extensive singles inventory. If you have more questions, feel free to post it here or email me at dkao@eudemonia.net. We want to help build and support the P9 community in California so let us know how we can do that.

We want to thank Superstars and the messengers involved for rescheduling their event. The community will benefit for having a stronger showing at both events instead of being split at two separate events.
At the moment, we do not have a Mox Sapphire to give away. In its place, we will be offering $500 store credit to first place. Eudemonia has other power available and many other singles to purchase with the store credit. As always, other prizes will be paid out based on attendance. If we do get a Mox Sapphire in time for the event (we are actively looking for one), that will be offered as the prize.
I hope to see everyone at the event this Sunday.

Eudemonia is back with our annual Power Nine series! We decided to run the event from August-May this season. For the veterans, you'll notice that we are not announcing the complete event ahead of time. This is to minimize rescheduling of events further down the road. We will commit to giving everyone ample notice and to plan with the best of our knowledge. The winner of the each event will receive a free bye in the final Black Lotus event. Without further ado.. [Location] Tournaments will be held at the Eudemonia store: 2154 University Ave, Berkeley, CA. Downtown Berkeley BART is two blocks away. [Prizes] First place receives the prize advertised for that event as well as a bye to the Black Lotus event. Additional prizes will also be awarded based on the number of attendees. [Proxying] The tournament format will be Type 1 with up to 10 proxies allowed. Any deck containing proxies must be sleeved with opaque plastic sleeves. Proxies must easily be recognizable as the card they represent from the face, and must be made such that they are not easily recognizable from the back or when shuffling the deck. Contact the store if you have further questions about the proxy policy. [Cancellation] With the exception of the final Black Lotus tournament, if fewer than twelve players register for a tournament, it may be cancelled.
