Eudemonia is back with our annual Power Nine series!  We decided to run the event from August-May this season.  For the veterans, you'll notice that we are not announcing the complete event ahead of time.  This is to minimize rescheduling of events further down the road.  We will commit to giving everyone ample notice and to plan with the best of our knowledge.  The winner of the each event will receive a free bye in the final Black Lotus event.  Without further ado..

2008 Winners

Details
[Format] Each tournament will be run as a series of swiss rounds, concluding with a cut to top eight. Besides for allowing proxies, all DCI rules for Type 1 Constructed tournaments apply. Blank decksheets will be provided and decklists are required for each event. For your convenience, you can download a blank decklist form here and fill it out at home.

[Time] For each tournament, registration begins at 11 AM and play begins at Noon.

[Location] Tournaments will be held at the Eudemonia store: 2154 University Ave, Berkeley, CA. Downtown Berkeley BART is two blocks away.

[Entry Fee] The entry fee is $25 for each tournament except the last. The entry fee is $30 for the final Black Lotus tournament, except for those that win free entry from placing in previous tournaments. The entry fee also includes two free hours of computer time at Eudemonia good for the day of the event.

[Prizes] First place receives the prize advertised for that event as well as a bye to the Black Lotus event.  Additional prizes will also be awarded based on the number of attendees.

[Proxying] The tournament format will be Type 1 with up to 10 proxies allowed. Any deck containing proxies must be sleeved with opaque plastic sleeves. Proxies must easily be recognizable as the card they represent from the face, and must be made such that they are not easily recognizable from the back or when shuffling the deck. Contact the store if you have further questions about the proxy policy.

[Cancellation] With the exception of the final Black Lotus tournament, if fewer than twelve players register for a tournament, it may be cancelled.

I like the idea of setting dates based on practicality and not randomly conflicting with other events (like holidays, ptq's etc).
Didn't it used to be that second place gets the bye in the Black Lotus tourney?

Lastly would the mod's please sticky this thread? (assuming original poster will modify dates etc)

HELL YES.  I am actually getting sick of the SuperStar tourneys where they announce it literally 5 days in advance and no one can make it.  It'd be sick to have type 1 in two different locations, and hopefully it'll be like before.  Felt like vintage scene in NorCal had been pretty slow and stagnant for the last couple months.

I'm in SoCal now, so will try to attend these with my boy Eric Weeden.

I want to thank everyone now for their entrance fees which are paying for my new power.

Anyone driving up to this thing saturday night or early Sunday morning from SoCal?

I would be willing to split driving and provide some gas money.

When does Zendikar become legal for type 1? I wonder if it will be legal for the October 11th tournament.

Put this on the store's calendar page. I, for one, check there first and would have missed this if I hadn't looked here.

Jeff is 100% correct. Zendikar is legal already, so be sure to have your Traps at the ready come Sunday.

This is a reminder that the Mox Emerald event will be this Sunday.  Both the Emerald and Ruby event has been placed on our calendar.  I hope to see everyone there!

I hope everyone's ready for the Mox Ruby on 11/1!

I think we could really increase turnout for both eudemonia events and superstars if we keep awareness up of when the events are - as the biggest prize in the bay area so far this season, I hope lots of people show for this one Smile

That, and Eudemonia has posted the Nov 1 Tourney on their website calendar.

Is it on tmd? Hmmmm.

Mods, can you help with this?  Many TO's don't know about the TMD calendar, and us full users can't whip one up without new thread.  I'm willing to make new thread if that's what it takes.

I've just been informed by judge Ryan that the next vintage (this sunday) will have a bonus prize for the best performing unpowered deck.

Has this been confirmed?  Eudemonia's site doesn't have much on their calendar, and DEC 6 is still blank.

I caved in and actually called Eudemonia.  They say NO for a December tourney, but (most likely) yes for Janurary.  They should be posting in this thread soon.
