1  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free Article] City of Brass - Tropical Storm on: April 16, 2011, 09:16:36 pm
@brassman: Nice article, I've been tinkering on how to include gush on my tps deck.

Have you tested doomsday? and if the field has less mud would you opt for a fewer land count (at least 14) and include some ponder and preordain?
2  Eternal Formats / Eternal Article Discussion / Re: [Free Blog post / Article] Simplicity, etc. on: March 10, 2011, 10:50:45 pm
I too have a friend(one that wants to beat everything). He will not listen to me, but now I can show him this article and scream to his face "TOLD YAH!"

Nice article Marske. Keep it up!

I laughed my ass off reading this. Is there a part 3? Very Happy
4  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Re: Misdirection on Tendrils of Agony on: November 24, 2010, 08:23:21 pm
I just wanted to point out, that it appears that the OP is under the assumption that if his opponent cast lightning bolt instead of misdirection that he would live, since when the stack clears, he will be at 19 or w/e. This is obviously wrong given the rules text that was posted in the OP

???

After the resolution of each item on the stack SBE(checking of life total) will be checked, so if he bolts me instead if using misdirect im fried. I did'nt get where your comin from.

Edit: Seems like Delha already clarified it.

5  Vintage Community Discussion / Rules Q&A / Misdirection on Tendrils of Agony on: November 21, 2010, 11:39:18 am
I played Tendrils of Agony w/ 9 copies and my life total is 2 then my opponent plays Misdirection.

Do I survive? I know I would, but someone in the group says no, he said "because at the point you reach 0 life you lost already" but I reasoned out that "state base effects will be check after the resolution of the spell" so imo during the resolution of ToA I will go to 0 life then back to 2 life then SBE will be check.

I lost that game Sad sad

This is where I got my reasoning

104.3b If a player's life total is 0 or less, he or she loses the game the next time a player would receive priority. (This is a state-based action. See rule 704.)

704.4. Unlike triggered abilities, state-based actions pay no attention to what happens during the resolution of a spell or ability.
Example: A player controls a creature with the ability "This creature's power and toughness are each equal to the number of cards in your hand" and casts a spell whose effect is "Discard your hand, then draw seven cards." The creature will temporarily have toughness 0 in the middle of the spell's resolution but will be back up to toughness 7 when the spell finishes resolving. Thus the creature will survive when state-based actions are checked. In contrast, an ability that triggers when the player has no cards in hand goes on the stack after the spell resolves, because its trigger event happened during resolution.

Hope you could help me
6  Eternal Formats / Creative / Re: what deck would you play without p9 on: November 01, 2010, 07:12:52 am
I'll play gobs and pray that i'll face mud all day
7  Eternal Formats / Ritual-Based Combo / Re: Nauseating your Opponent: today's ANT on: October 03, 2010, 08:57:32 am
Opal doesn't solve the problem with ANT: threat density.  I've been thinking about ways to hybridize doomsday into this deck to get the engine count up.

I haven't quite solved this problem yet, but unless wizards prints some extra tutors or extra cheap engines this deck isn't going to get better.  The limiting factor isn't mana, it's business.

AMEN.

9  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Big Bomb Artifact Enabler on: September 19, 2010, 03:42:53 am
You'll still imprint a card if you copy it via Sculpting Steel
Just a question guys, Shops already have a reusable lotus(workshop) and almost all of its lands produces 2 mana. Do shops REALLY need this? Coz imo this doesnt make the cut

Please enlighten me if im missin something
10  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Darksteel juggernaut on: September 18, 2010, 11:31:39 pm
In the 5cc slot, i'll play Precusor Golem before this crap. If he cost 4 maybe i'll think about it.

Anyway, thanks wizards the name "Darksteel Juggernaut" kicks ass, but the card sucks though

Razromane is better if your problem isn't Tarmogoyf and Nature's claim.

Razorcore is fine if your problem is Goyf. It's extremely unlikely that Goyf survives bolt + 5 first strike.

I'ts extremely unlikely too that your opponent will block Razormane with Goyf if you already bolted it, he'll just race you and with you using tomb that's not a good situation

I really love this card, 5cc for 3 3/3s is sick.

I bet this would really impact the design of Aggro MUD.

14  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Dual Lands on: September 17, 2010, 10:58:40 pm
I agree with Painlands <<< SOM Lands <<< Shocklands <<< Dual Lands, so this land cycle won't have any impact on eternal Sad

Well if you needed Tundra/HallowedFountain/FloodedStrand 13 - 16, here you go.

I'd rather play basics on that slot , or even city of brass
15  Eternal Formats / Ritual-Based Combo / Re: Ritual Based Combo in Today's Metagame on: September 17, 2010, 09:08:47 am
Thank you for that information.  I think that I have it narrowed down to two choices.

Inkwell Leviathan: His shroud ability is universally recognized.  While not necessarily good against MUD he brings the pain to Tezzeret/Oath as well as Fish and Dredge.  All of these decks however have good ways of dealing with the Tinker/Robot making it a suboptimal play anyway.

Darksteel Colossus: While very susceptible to bounce and removal, he will be huge in matchups against MUD where you really need  your robot to make up for all the sphere/thorn/trinisphere.

I think I like the idea of pushing the robot into the sideboard.

Here is my deck list

Spells (36)
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Brainstorm
2 Cabal Ritual
1 Chain Of Vapor
4 Dark Ritual
4 Force Of Will
1 Gifts Ungiven
1 Misdirection
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Hurkyl's Recall
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Necropotence
1 Yawgmoth's Bargain
1 Demonic Tutor
2 Duress
2 Thoughtseize
2 Grim Tutor
1 Imperial Seal
1 Mind's Desire
1 Imperial Seal
1 Tendrils Of Agony
1 Time Walk
1 Timetwister
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Merchant Scroll
1 Memory Jar

Planeswalkers (1)
1 Jace, the Mind Sculptor

Manasources (23)
1 Black Lotus
1 Lotus Petal
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mana Vault
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Sol Ring
2 Island
2 Swamp
4 Polluted Delta
1 Flooded Strand
2 Underground Sea
1 Tolarian Academy

Sideboard
3 Dark Confidant
1 Island
1 Swamp
1 Rebuild
1 Time Vault
1 Sadistic Sacrament
1 Voltaic Key
1 Echoing Truth
1 Darksteel Colossus
1 Massacre
1 Tinker
2 Yixlid Jailer

If youre putting tinker on the side might as well cut jar, or put tinker back on the main and cut a grim tutor, I think 2 grims and a seal is overkill.

And you should add 1 more Tendrils, and your MD is missing a card, the ponder slot maybe

16  Eternal Formats / Ritual-Based Combo / Re: Ritual Based Combo in Today's Metagame on: September 17, 2010, 06:07:07 am
I only get a robot(i'm using DSC right now) on turn 1 or 2 and if:

 - I don't have artifact mana (coz playing jar with only an island in play doesn't seems right)
 - My opponent is not Mirror, ANT or Belcher
 - I'm on Game 3 of Round 5 and really exhausted  Wink
 -

What do you think guys? Am i doing it right?
17  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Leonin Arbiter on: September 14, 2010, 02:35:01 am
For the 5 open slots, land tax doesn't look good w/ arbiter in play.
Why not play Silence/Chant MD?
 -  you dont have that many 1st turn drop
 -  they can't go nuts on you before you play your hate creature
 -  Orim is sexay  Very Happy
18  Eternal Formats / General Strategy Discussion / Re: Mox Opal on: September 05, 2010, 10:01:23 am
This baby can replace an offcolor mox on ANT, but I wouldnt run it in TPS
19  Eternal Formats / Ritual-Based Combo / Re: Ritual Based Combo in Today's Metagame on: August 20, 2010, 09:59:04 am
Seal > Grim in TPS.

This is wrong.

I'm with Soly here.

Seal > Grim in Vintage, but not in TPS
20  Eternal Formats / Ritual-Based Combo / Re: Ritual Based Combo in Today's Metagame on: August 20, 2010, 09:00:25 am
@all: Is Gush really that good in TPS? It's kinda weird coz we don't play it pre-Lodestone Golem. Why now?

@Blovdek: Have you tested Grim Tutor?
