What if you got rid of the counters entirely and made Merciful Monk change the color of the creature instead? Then it could simply have protection from a color as opposed to protection from creatures with ~name~ counters on them.

If this were to go into the Aztec set, perhaps we could use flavor text to link this to Horzatl or something in Aztec culture. I'm not too good at creating flavor text, so if someone could help me out, that'd be great.
In terms of the power of this card, I'd like to hear what more people have to say. Personally, I think it's a little weak due to the casting cost of triple red and the randomness of damage, but dandan has a valid point. I'm open to any and all suggestions.

I like Jacob's suggestion for having it only deal random damage to creatures. I think that it's a significant enough drawback and that it won't always get through. With a single blocker, it has as much chance of killing itself as it does the opposing creature. With more creatures on the opponent's side, it just gets a little better.
Ephraim, while this may be similar to Goblin Psychopath (a card of which I was not aware when designing this), I think that it's still different and flavorful. With the changes, I don't think it's a whole lot worse. If you have any suggestions to improve it, I'd be happy to hear them.

If Chaos Elemental would deal combat damage to a creature or player, choose a creature or player at random. Chaos Elemental deals damage equal to it's power to that creature or player instead.
Would that solve the problem? Also, what are your opinions on this card's power level? I wanted to add haste, but wasn't sure whether or not that would be too much.

Chaos Elemental RRR Creature -- Elemental If Chaos Elemental would deal damage to a creature or player, choose a target at random. Chaos Elemental deals damage equal to it's power to that target instead. Chaos is as chaos does. 5/5
I'm not quite sure if the wording for this is correct, or whether the power level is too high or too low, but it seems like a cool twist on the chaotic nature of red. The more creatures that your opponent(s) have, the more random (more powerful?) this becomes, but there's always the chance that it'll either hit you, your creatures, or even itself. What do you think?

This card seems very white to me. White usually gets this type of removal (StP, Erase, Second Thoughts, and recently, Reciprocate), as opposed to red. I think changing the color would be all that's needed to fix up this card.
Negate 1W Sorcery Remove target permanent from the game if it's indestructible. Draw a card.
(negate, v. - to make ineffective or invalid; nullify.)
Also, would there be any objections if we made this an instant?

Because of the controversy surrounding the creature type of "treefolk," perhaps it's best to ditch the original name in favor of a different one, based off a similar anagram: "fixed goblin welder." May I suggest:
Wei Red-Leg, Blind Fox 2W Legendary Creature - Fox Cleric 0/1 T: Choose target enchantment a player controls and target enchantment card in that player's graveyard. If both targets are still legal as this ability resolves, that player sacrifices the enchantment in play, then puts the other enchantment from his or her graveyard into play.

I was the Fish player you faced in round three. I was relatively unprepared for Dragon, and you piloted the deck very well. First game, you couldn't find a WGD for a while, but kept drawing off Bazaar + Squee while I couldn't find a Waste. I think you actually animated Sliver Queen and Laquatus before finding a WGD, Duressing my Stifle, and comboing me out.
While sideboarding, I realized that the only cards I had for the Dragon matchup were Sigils of Sleep (plus 2 MD Stifles). Even though I drew a Sigil and a Lavamancer, you managed to nuke my mana and drop enough fat on the board to win. Fish can't really deal with Titan and Verdant Force too well.
It's too bad you didn't make top 16, but nevertheless, congratulations on your high finish. It was a pleasure to play against you.

This is Aaron, I played you in round 3. Congratulations on your finish, you played some solid games. As for the third game that we played, it was a stupid mistake on my part, I deserve a loss for that. The one play involving the Time Walk sealed the deal.
As for the rest of the tournament, I went 3-2 before I had to leave. It was a fun time, and I got the chance to meet some really cool people. For reference, this was my list:
Gay/r 9/4/04
Gayness (15) 4x Grim Lavamancer 4x Cloud of Faeries 4x Spiketail Hatchling 2x Razorfin Hunter 1x Gorilla Shaman
Countermagic (8) 4x Force of Will 2x Daze 2x Stifle
Draw (9) 4x Standstill 4x Curiosity 1x Ancestral Recall
Disruption (3) 3x Null Rod
Utility (2) 1x Time Walk 1x Crucible of Worlds
Mana (23) 4x Polluted Delta 1x Flooded Strand 4x Volcanic Island 2x Island 4x Mishra's Factory 2x Faerie Conclave 4x Wasteland 1x Strip Mine 1x Mox Sapphire
Sideboard (15) 2x Red Elemental Blast 1x Blue Elemental Blast 2x Maze of Ith 3x Fire/Ice 2x Unsummon (should be Sigil of Sleep) 2x Energy Flux 1x Rack and Ruin 1x Crucible of Worlds 1x Null Rod

Does it make sense for this to be a sorcery? I think it would be much more useful as an instant if you intend on fighting combo with it. However, as an instant, it becomes a potent Cunning Wish target, yet the ACC reigns it in nicely; removing a white card and another card seems fair.

Yeah... besides cantrips, card drawing isn't in flavor for red, other than the whole "discard hand, draw a new one" thing. In my opinion, you could add blue to the card to have it make sense. Perhaps something along the lines of:
Boltbait 2UR Creature -- Ogre Wizard 3/3 Whenever 3 or more damage is dealt to an opponent, draw a card. Blood draws blood
Is that any better?

Rules question regarding these lands: Can they be pitched to spells (such as Force of Will, Misdirection, Unmask, etc.)?
If so, would this make them too strong?
Other than that, I think this is a really interesting concept.
