Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Most optimal SB cards for Ur Fish Mirror
|

Has anyone tested boarding in 4x Juggernaught/Su-Chi?
4 Mana seems like a lot, but Fish has trouble dealing with fat, ESPECIALLY after SBing in narrow cards like Suq'Ata Firewalker and Slice and Dice to beat X/1s.
I will test this and see how it goes.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Most optimal SB cards for Ur Fish Mirror

The 5-proxy power tournaments I play at are not very high powered, so there are a lot of Fish mirror matches. And of course, there are a ridiculous number of potential cards that are very good in the mirror. The question is, which are the MOST effective. I can list these options off the top of my head:
Fire/Ice Sword of Fire and Ice More Crucibles REB BEB Razorfin Hunter Suq'ata Firewalker Slice and Dice (For the uncounterable cycling, obv) More Stifles Fat Creatures
I find I am able to SB out 8 cards, at most, in the Fish mirror. What cards do you reccommend? Right now I bringing in (Crucibles already maindeck, keep in mind):
3 Sword 2 F/I 3 REB
This is probably not optimal though.
So the question is, what is the best mirror match sideboard scheme, and why?

Vintage Community Discussion / General Community Discussion / Measuring interest in a South MN A. Recall Tournament

We are thinking about holding an Ancestral Recall tournement @ Round Table Games in Owatonna, MN, but first I'm curious to see how many of all of you would be willing to make the trip.
This would be a five proxy event.
1st Prize: Unl. Ancestral Recall 2nd Prize: 4x Unl. Sinkhole 3rd Prize: Exalted Angel Highest Finisher with no Proxies: 1x Each Bringer (You know, from 5th Dawn)
Entry fee: $15-20, depending on the how many people we expect.
The date we are aiming for is Sat., September 25th.
Just trying to get a feel for whether or not such an event would be a success.
Thanks.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck Discussion] Fish - Gay/R build & choices

I'm running 24 land including 5 Strips, is this too much? I find that I am still sometimes mana-screwed, but flooding too much as well.
Also, is Fire/Ice absolutely necessary? I am running 3 Stifle, 3 MisD, and a Fourth Lavamancer instead.
I am still learning the deck and appreciate any advice that can be given. Here is my current build:
//NAME: Gay/r 1 Mountain 1 Bloodstained Mire 2 Island 3 Faerie Conclave 4 Mishra's Factory 4 Polluted Delta 4 Volcanic Island 1 Strip Mine 4 Wasteland 3 Misdirection 3 Null Rod 4 Curiosity 4 Standstill 4 Spiketail Hatchling 4 Cloud of Faeries 4 Grim Lavamancer 3 Stifle 3 Daze 4 Force of Will SB: 3 Sigil of Sleep SB: 4 Blue Elemental Blast SB: 4 Rack and Ruin SB: 4 Red Elemental Blast
Obviously, the sideboard is terrible, it is just thrown together. What else needs to be there? I do love the Sigil of Sleep though.
Edit - I am unpowered

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Looking for some good people to test with

After reading the stickies on the boards here, it is apparent that post quality is of major importance. The number one thing I hear is "test before you post", which I agree with. However, I really have noone to test with. I live in a small town in South MN and I cant drive an hour to Minneapolis/Saint Paul each day to test. So most of my testing will have to be done via apprentice/MWS.
I am fairly new to Type 1, and I'm not trying to develop new tech or anything right now, I'm just trying to find some decent people to play against so I can learn the ins and outs of the format so I can begin to make intelligent comments and improve the overall quality of the forums. I don't expect to be let into the elite test circles or anything like that, because I am a random scrub. I have tried mIRC and things of that nature, but most of the players on there are bad/playing jank.
Surely there must be some people out there in a similar situation who need testing partners as well?
As a T2/Limited player transitioning into Type 1, I am in need of good playtest partners and am looking for advice as to where to find them.
Thanks.
Sidenote: Mods, if this is in the wrong place, please move it. Thanks.

Eternal Formats / Creative / Withered Wretch, etc. in Sui Black?
|
on: February 11, 2004, 06:44:11 pm
|
|
I'm just getting into T1, and am a budget player, and have constructed what I think is a decent Sui build: (Note: My Metagame is rather aggro heavy)
4x Dark Ritual 4x Hymn to Tourach 4x Duress 4x Sinkhole 4x Nantuko Shade 4x Hypnotic Specter 4x Masticore 4x Phyrexian War Beast 2x Powder Keg 1x Demonic Tutor 1x Yawgmoth's Will 1x Demonic Consultation
4x Wasteland 1x Strip Mine 18x Swamp
SB 3x Chalice of the Void 4x Phyrexian Negator 2x Powder Keg 3x Contagion 3x Flesh Reaver
My question is, do I need to find a place for Withered Wretch to combat Dragon/Madness/Rector? Cabal Therapy is decent in the deck, but is it good enough to include? And should I get Null Rod in there somewhere?
Thanks for the help.

Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / Proxy Discussion

The problem with a 5 or 10 proxy rule is that people will simply choose to play the deck that can be run to its full potential with only 5-10 really expensive cards. Some people say that the solution to this problem is to allow full proxies, but I tend to disagree. The whole reason I play at tournaments (I'm sure this is true for others, too), besides having fun, is the chance to win some power. If full proxies are allowed, what is my motivation for even playing? It is a tricky situation and I don't have to solution, but I would just as happy with no proxies allowed.
And no, I don't say this because I want to smash budget people with my fully-powered Keeper. I in fact don't own any power (yet!), but I hope to have the chance to win some.
