1  Vintage Community Discussion / Community Introductions / Mox Jet SCG #2 on: August 14, 2014, 03:33:23 pm
I've been out of the MTG scene for quite awhile now. I ended up selling my collection, but there's one card I'd like to buy back if anyone knows who has it.

I got 3rd place at SCG Richmond and took a Mox Jet, I ended up putting a smiley face on it. Willing to pay $200 over retail if anyone knows the owner. Was a pretty special event for me, met alot of awesome people and an epic road trip with Kowal and Jacob.

I was always wondering what happened to my jet. I'm glad it got into the hands of a good person who appreciates it.

If you ever get it back. Please consider me a potential buyer. I had to sell all my cards for career reasons and I really wish I hadn't

Good luck man.

Hope to see everyone there.

Sorry to be a little off topic- but with all the talk about how bad T1 players are I have to bring this up. That play is illegal a spell can not target itself.

There is a way to do what he wanted to, in fact there are two different ways for him to get the job done. But what he did is not one of them

Sorry I was not clear; he did misdirect fow onto his misdirection. In retrospect, that hand / game didn't matter anyway because it was a misplay by me trying to "go off" to early. Hindsight's 50/50 when you’re not piloting this deck.

The biggest problem with this deck is you are trying to cram the entire game into one turn with 5 cards. If you don't know all the variables that go with that turn, it can go horribly wrong.

7  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck] 4c Oath... Could it work in today's metagame? on: November 19, 2004, 10:44:25 am
Like I stated above, if I were going to run black I would run scrying. It makes the mirror a lot less random. Basically it comes down to whoever can resolve the biggest Ak wins and who draws 3 orchard or wastelands.

Your best defense against wasteland is obviously basic lands. That is why I wouldn't want to distort the mana base with white, and run as many basics as possible.

Then again this is all irrelevant is your opponent goes.

9  Eternal Formats / Miscellaneous / [Deck] 4c Oath... Could it work in today's metagame? on: November 19, 2004, 10:06:33 am
There is no synergy with yawg will, regrowth and blessing. I wouldn't run black just for demonic either. It seems like you are trying to do too much with the deck. I would drop the AK's and replace them with scrying if you really want to play black.

Is Balance and 2 swords really worth distorting your mana base and making your wasteland matchup worse? That was the biggest selling point of Oath, It was mono-u with a better kill. If my memory serves me right, I think people still play with Sundering Titan.  Wink

I'd rather not have this thread derailed with people bickering. This is going to be a great tournament. I really hope the type 1 community will accept the scene that hammer is trying to offer in Manchester.

If 15 or less players:

1st Foil Welder + 2 blue dual lands.

2nd Same as before - chose 3 from Volcanic Isle, Trop Isle, Underground Sea, Bayou, Scrubland.

3rd Same as before - 1 of the remaining 2 duals.

4th Same as before - remaining dual.

I added the 2 blue duals to the foil welder for first. I'm not sure which 2 (I'm at home right now enjoying my day off :-/ and don't have my cards on hand).

If 16 or more players show up:

Every entry after the first 15 players, I'll add $10 credit to the prize pool that can be spent on anything here (supplies, singles, packs, dice, sleeves, candy, soda or whatever). I'd rather do credit than give say "3 packs of Kamigawa added per entry". Packs are generally lame, and I imagine even more so for vintage players. Also, I'd rather stretch it out to a top 8 prize. So if 17 peeps enter, then I'll keep the same top 4 prize, but 5th-8th get $5 credit each. If 18 $7.50 ea. If 19 $10 ea. Then the next 3-4 entries would add credit to the top 4 once 5th-8th got up to $10 credit each already.

I love this prize structure, I hope to see everyone there.

EDIT: it's too bad that Brett, Scott, and Chris over at Double Midnight comics in manchester don't get their act together and hold one, they have a better larger facility and they even have good prize fodder on hand (gauntlet of might, bazaar of baghdad, abyss, multiple duals and occasional power.)

I really don't see space as being an issue at Hammer's, he holds states there every year and gets turnout of 70 people +

I was there last night drafting and talking to him about this tournament, and he is really excited to bring some new people into the store. He is aware that some of his vetern players bring a very negitive attitude / atmosphere to the store from time to time.
20  Archives / Archived Vintage Tournament Forum / Hammer's Comics, December 5th on: November 03, 2004, 09:44:43 am
I'm going to this for several reasons:

1. Hammer knows how to run events. He does type 2 every weekend along with states once per year.

2. Goblin welder is worth more then $65, I got the four I own from Jeff Anand and we valued them at $100 per. Granted that's high, you never see these damn things and if you do, no one wants to get rid of them.

3. This is his first type 1 event and he is really looking to bring a new crowd to the store.

So if anything you guys should come so we can get Team NH sorted out Smile

Hopefully we will see you there.

Where:

Hammer's Comics
1711 South Willow St
Manchester NH 03103
(Right next to the Mall of NH)

When:
Sunday, December 5th, 11am

Why:
Type 1, 10 proxy, unsanctioned action.

How much:
$15

The booty:

First:  Gets a minty fresh FOIL Goblin Welder.  The card is the highest possible Near Mint with almost no flaws whatsoever.
Second:  Three duals from a short list available
Third: One dual
Fourth One dual

The Dual lands that Hammer has selected to give away for this tournament are A Volcanic Island, Tropical Island, Underground Sea, Bayou and Scrubland, all are from Revised, and are in very good condition, all the way up to NM.  If someone would like to trade in their prize dual for other cards, that'll be fine, just talk to Hammer, and he'll take good care of you.

Granted, a FOIL Welder isn't power, but it a pretty frigging good card to win, as they're going for upwards of $100, and if we can build an awesome tournament scene, the prizes WILL get bigger and better.

Many folks know of the former Pro Tour Champrion Shawn "Hammer" Regnier. Hammer has owned and operated Hammer's Comics in Manchester for over 10 years now, and has decided to get back into running more major Type 1 events.  Hammer's is well known as being one of the best places to play Type 2 in New England, and has hosted many Grand Prix Qualifiers and all of the NH State Championships for many years.

This will be the first Type 1 tourney of hopefully many to come. If he gets a reasonable turnout, and everyone has a good time, he will start hosting Type 1 events regularly, most likely every other weekend, which will be an awesome addition to already awesome Type 1 magic scene here in New England.

Hammer has a excellent selection of packs, sleeves, and singles on hand.
