Thanks, Calvin for organizing and TOA for hosting! It's always great to sling cards with the Vintage community.

The fact that you mostly will draw only 1 card extra per turn kinda turns me down on this one. But there's another card that may work well with him: Raven's Crime.

Hey guys, quick question. How would reflecting pool work with only a cavern of souls in play? Would it tap for any color of mana? -Storm "Reflecting Pool doesn't care about any restrictions or riders your lands put on the mana they produce, such as Pillar of the Paruns and Hall of the Bandit Lord do. It just cares about types of mana." Pillar of the Paruns has basically the same wording/format as Cavern, so it looks like the interaction works how you think it does. |

Yes, it works like we want it too. Still not sure that makes it good enough. The 1 Wasteland, 1 Reflecting Pool hands are pretty brutal mulligans.

Talking about instant discard, there is also a rat rogue that allows discarding opponent as instant.
Seems awesome, but I thought the same with spirit of the labyrinth and I have had little success. However 3/1 for 2 is really nice, specially with liliana as stated. A friend had some good experience with Jagged Poppet in the past in a RB beatz, with moons and so. play spirit guides to empty your hand and start the party. |

In a fight of Crucible vs Crucible, which is not uncommon for a Shops mirror, this does give you a way of getting ahead in lands/permanents.

Attention all Old School MTG players on the East Coast!
We have launched the New York Old School MTG site! In the coming months leading up to NYSE Open IV, there will be a few Old School events held at The Geekery HQ, The Comic Book Depot, Inc., & A Store of Fire and Dice using this format. In a attempt to recapture the nostalgic olden days of the game, it features the standard Old School rules of mana burn, stacking damage, an older B&R list, and an Overtime Armageddon Clock. Thanks to everyone who helped make this possible with their great feedback and suggestions. Time to jam some organized Old School!!! ![]() Check out our site: http://newyorkoldschool.tumblr.com/ |

If we're specifically talking about Smokestack, Crucible gives you +1 permanent a turn, but uses your land drop, so if you have a handful of lands crucible doesn't really do anything, and a second Crucible never does. Drownyard Temple gives you +1 permanent whether or not you use a land drop, and with multiple Drownyards you could support a Smokestack at 2 without ever losing it, which Crucible doesn't let you do. That costs 6 mana, though, which is non-trivial.
I don't think that interaction makes Drownyard significantly better or anything. |
