It has come to my attention that many Vintage players do not attend the release events.  With the pre-release already done with and the new cards out, they are looking forward to playing with the new cards in Vintage.  To give these players the first chance to play with their new cards, I am now running ELD Mox Tournaments on the release weekends.

The Custom Card for this event will be Strategic Planning:

These Custom Cards will be Gold Numbered 1-8 and be given out to the Top 8 according to finish.  In the case of splits, swiss ranking will determine placement.  I appreciate all the support I've received from the community, and anticipate the continued growth of Vintage in New England.  These Custom Cards do not take away from the prize pool at all.  They are an extra way of saying thank you.

There will also be one Custom Proxy Strategic Planning given away at random to one person who carpools to the event.  People carpooling, often from great distances, is what makes these events so successful.  The dedication of the New England Vintage community is appreciated, and this is my way of saying thank you.

First place prize will be an Unlimited Mox Ruby.

Here are the details:
ELD's Mox Tournament XVIII
Saturday, October 4th, 2008
$25 Entry Fee

with: Over the Edge Games

located at:
Over the Edge Games
315 Grafton St.
Worcester, MA 01604

You can pre-register by sending me an PM or e-mailing me at EricELD@comcast.net  You can also pre-register by via the Facebook Group - New England Vintage.  You do not need to pay ahead of time, this is just to get a head count.  Everyone who pre-registers will be entered into a drawing for a Foil ELD Proxy!  This one will be a foil Ancestral Recall.

Prizes (example for 30 players)

1st Place - Unlimited Mox Ruby- GUARANTEED!
2nd Place - English Mana Drain (options will be added on the day of the event)
3rd Place -  Choice from cards including Alpha Sol Ring, Crazy Foils and Foreign cards and valuable Vintage Staples!
4th Place - 2nd Choice from cards including Alpha Sol Ring, Crazy Foils and Foreign cards and valuable Vintage Staples!
5th-8th - Choice from Type 1 STAPLE SWAG including All the Dual Lands, Force of Will and other Type 1 Staples
or 2 cards from the PIMPED SWAG including Foils, Black boardered goodness, ELD Proxies and more.

I am going to give away the Mox regardless of attendance.  Prizes will be adjusted based on attendance.  100% of the entry fees will be put towards the prizes.  The above is used to show relative value of each place for 30 players.  On the day of the event, I will dig into my collection to make sure that everyone who places will be able to choose from tons of cards they'd be happy with.  That's what to expect out of all of my tournaments.

ELD Proxies do not count towards the proxy limit at ELD, Myriad Games, Batter Up, Stillpoint, Pandemonium or Over the Edge events.  ELD Proxies are sell for $15 each at ELD, Myriad Games, Batter Up, and Pandemonium events.  These are the ELD Proxies:

I've been receiving a lot of inquiries about custom work.  The full story about my proxies can be found here!

Cost
$25.

Registration begins at 10:00 AM.  Decklists must be received by 11:00 AM.  The tournament will begin at 11:30 AM sharp.  Swiss rounds based on attendance - Cut to top 8.

Proxy rules

Side Event:
There has been a lot of interest in side events at my tournaments.  We will be holding a side event based off interest.  This could be a draft with Type 1 prizes, or a single elimination Vintage event.

Also -
Pizza will be available by the slice, as well as snacks and soda.
Side Drafts will take be available all day with discounted draft sets.
I will have singles for trade/sale
I will be buying cards.
      Commons/Uncommons/Lands mixed (at least 10% uncommon) @ $5 per 1000
      Bulk rares @ $0.10 each
      Bulk Foils @ $0.05 each
Bulk Foil Rares @ $0.25 each
I'll be buying any and all cards – turn your unwanted cards into cash!

Look forward to seeing you all there.

I completely understand that some Vintage players go to the release weekends.  I might even go to a Friday event myself.  This event is certainly an experiment, but I think the new set release policy creates an interesting situation.  My events that took place the week after pre-releases were some of my highest attended tournaments.  I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

Of course, there will be Shards of Alara Side Drafts as well throughout the day.

With the event less than two weeks away, this is a reminder that Shards of Alara is legal for this event!  This is the first major Vintage event with Shards in the word, so the decklists that succeed will certainly become the main topic of discussion.

This location was really good, and the weather has cooled down enough where air conditioning won't be an issue.  I plan on coming up.

I'm thinking of making the trip from NYC.  It was a blast last time I attended.

I've been busy buying collections, and I've got some great prizes to put up for choices.  Time Vaults, Foil Goodness and more could be choices in the prize structure - the more players, the bigger the prizes!  Depending on how large the pre-registration is, we may move to the more spacious upstairs.  Be sure to get your pre-registrations in as soon as you know you'll be attending.  See you guys Saturday!

I'll be there, along with a Dan Cunningham and most likely an Arik.

OTE is sponsoring $7 drafts for this event!  They will be actively looking to buy Shards cards, and will post a buylist too!  If players want to play for bigger prizes, we can add on additional prize support as well!

Yes.  Also, anyone who wants to sell cards to put towards the entry fee should show up as early as possible.  I'll be there a bit before 10 am.

This is the shiniest Foil ELD Proxy to date!  It is also the only ELD Proxy Ancestral Recall done with type writer instead of my handwriting.

Pre-registration is now closed.  I can't wait to see how the new set impacts things.  I'll be getting there at 10, and the store is opening even earlier.  See you all soon!

Thank you to everyone who showed and congrats to the Top 8.  I'll get the Top 8 decklists up ASAP.  Tezzeret showed up big time, as did many other Shards cards.  I know I was surprised to see what cards actually made the Top 8.
